Official "Newbie needs to switch from DTV to Dish and what all do I need" thread

Hello and thank you in advance for taking the time read this.

I'm a newbie of sorts and can work a Mikobu which is the extent of my skill level. I've decided to make the switch to Dish as I'm giving up on DTV at this point.

What exactly do I need to purchase so that I an watch movies and sports pay per views with Dish the same way I did with my P3 and Mikobu?

Again, thank you in advance for any time & help you can provide. Maybe this thread can be used to help other Newbies who will in turn increase their skill level to pay it forward to others later on.

Thanks!

This is a guide to help transition DTV testers in to full blooded Dish Net hackers.
Why do I use the word tester for DTV but the word Hacker for Dish net? Real simple, most people that hack or test DTV just through some bin and some 3m/act on there card and either waits for the bin to be blacklisted or waits for 3m to be hashed or the tiers to drop from the act. The small fraction of the DTV testing community are the real hackers making the 3m scripts and developing new ideas on how to do it better. With Dish Net, this is what you will be doing; it involves brain work, something that some people are not accustom to.

So the first thing we are going to cover is a few basics terms you should already be comfortable with as they are the same for DTV and Dish.

Cam ID -- The serial number on the back of the card. Note while Direct TV does blacklist cam ids, Dish network does not. So as long as you have a number on the back of your card you are fine. Side note if you happen to have a Bell Express Vue card that you converted over to dish you can not use it cam id number, please contact me for a free file that generates valid dish cam ids.

IRD number: The serial number or your receiver. Unlike HU cards which will auto remarry to what ever receiver you happen to put them in. Dish net cards need to have there ird numbers change by hand on the card. So you simply can not take your card pull it out of the receiver and stick it in another ird with out reprogramming it.

ECM: Electronic Counter Measure, in DTV they attack the cards either just hashing them or looping them. With dish they attack your ird. By writing to the TSOP (Thin Small Outline Package) Think of this as a computer's bios, it is where all the critical software is that makes the receiver work.

JTAG: DTV use this device to do a NO ZKT modification on there some receiver most notable are the RCA DRD 303 and the RCA DRD 420re. Dish net, you use it for two things to repair your TSOP after an ECM, and to retrieve the receiver's boxkeys.

Now some terms you have probably heard but have no idea what they are

Boxkeys: A lot of Direct TV people have a hard time with theses. Think of Boxkeys as a 2nd IRD number. Where on Direct TV all the HU card has to do is have the IRD number on the card to marry it self to the receiver, Dish net ird's have a two step marrying process.
A. the IRD number ,
B. The boxkeys.
The boxkeys are hidden in the TSOP of the receiver. You can get the boxkeys through two main methods.
A. A JTAG device to read the TSOP. (Note the following models do not have a JTAG port so buyer beware 1000,2000,3000.3500,4500,5000,7100,7200) (Another side note that there is a device that will read the boxkeys off the above no JTAG port models but it is very expensive at 299 dollars and is really not worth the money.)
B. Reading the original card that came with the receiver. (Note that most cards can be unlocked by a dealer, except if the card is Yellow or Orange as they represent the new Rom101 and the Rom103 cards that are currently un-hack able. Also note if you have a Rom10 card and it has taken the A21 update than no dealer can unlock those out either.

Digital Lock: A device that block the write command to the TSOP during an ECM. What this is for, is that Charlie (Dish net CEO also nick name for Dish net) ECMS the boxes not the cards like DTV. What happens is if you are hit by an ECM they write a little flag marker on your TSOP and it will prevent you from watching anything but the remote control help channel. A digital lock does not prevent a Nag screen from coming up it does protect your receiver by blocking the write command to the TSOP keeping it from being flagged.

Blocker Script: Real simple it is a script that your must write to your card to prevent Charlie from updating your card. It is bad for dish to update your cards software as they can lock you out faster than you can count to ONE TWO THREE! Then you would have to pay a dealer to unlock your card again.

Public Keys: Just the signal Decrypt keys that are transmitted via the satellite. You can either enter them while programming your card or simple put you card in the receiver after programming the keys on the card will update them selves. This may take a minute or two, during this time you might get a black screen with the picture flashing on and off. Letting the receiver update the keys for you is known as rolling. So if some one tells you just let the keys roll it means just stick your card in your receiver and turn it on and leave it alone for a couple of minutes.

NagraEdit: Card reading/writing program. It is basically Extreme Hu for dish network. Except you can't unloop cards with it. But again there really is no need as dish net does not attack the cards like Dave does. This has become the standard in the dish net world plain and simple if you are not using this you are out of your mind. You also use this to write your NagraEdit Scripts to the cards, which would be like the hex files for extreme HU

Rom Tier Maker: Also known as RTM, it is the standard in the dish net world. While the original creator pjsoft is not longer making new versions of it the tiers for it are easily update by replacing one file. In the dish net world the way scripts get done are different than what you are use to in Direct TV. Dish net scripts are more like activation but with one twist there is additional tier called the PPV string. That unlocks all pay per view. But they all the other channels are setup it mimics more of a real sub. Just like DTV Activations. But with Dish Network your tiers just don't fall off so you don't have to reprogram your tiers on constant basis. So when it is needed for a blocker script change (which sometimes will be needed to continue enjoying free TV) you can copy and paste your tiers from one blocker script to the new one.

Tier Creator for Dummies: Same idea as Rom Tier Maker, also no longer being developed, but also easily updated by replacing one file. It's shorten name is TCFD.

Plastic: Dish network term for using the original dish/Bell Express Vue access cards. Referring to Rom2 Rom3 Rom10 Rom11:

AVR: Audio Video Replicator, these use to be used replace to replace smart cards. They would be program via the computer and then slide under your access card to unlock channels they are a big ECM target. Stay clear of these unless you are going to use them for Emulation.

Emulation: Using an AVR your can emulate the access card. This method can get ecmed some times but not often. It requires a computer that can handle the emulation 486 or higher. But is a good solution for some. This is just like HU card emulation for DTV.

Atmega: AVR on Steroids is the best way to describe it. Once was a great product it has gone way of the AVR as a device that is more hassle than good. Not recommended for use. But unlike an AVR you don't need the original smart card if you know your boxkeys.

G2, Casper Card: Privately made smart cards that have Rom 3 emulation inside of them, they have mixed results and are more than a Rom3 or Rom10 would cost.

DSSRev: Rom3 emulation wafer that has similar features of Atmega. Current reports (Dec 2003) is that they are great and working fine and at the price of any where from 50 to 65 dollars they are reasonably priced.

RomX: Rom 10 emulation smart card. No blockers needed. Great Device I use one my self at the price of 99 dollars it well worth the cost.

Dish Pro: These are newer lnbs made by Dish Network and use a new transponder stacking system that is not seen on older lnbs. Dish Pro LNBS are marked with a Dish Pro Sticker. Note that Legacy Receivers can not be used with Dish Pro LNBS with out Dish Network's Legacy adapter retail value of 69.95.

Legacy Receivers: 1000, 2000, 2700, 2800, 3000, 3500, 3800, 3900, 4000, 4500, 4700, 4900, 5000, 7100, 7200

Dish Pro Receivers: (note that numbers in parenthesis are the Bell Express Vue model numbers that correspond to the dish network model number) 301 (3100) 501 (5100) 508 (5800) 721, 811, 311, and 921. Dish Pro Receivers can be used with legacy lnbs and switches.

Legacy Switches: SW21 SW44 SW64 note that legacy switches can not be used with dish pro lnbs and vice versa

Dish Pro Switches, DP21, and DP34 same as above Dish pro switches can not be used with legacy lnbs.

SuperDish: New dish by Dish Network to handle increased locals. There are two versions one that points at 105 110 119 and the other with 110 119 129. You will only receive this if you have one of the locals that are on the new 105 or 129 satellites.

For this guide I will be covering hacking dish network with Plastic. If you want to know how to use AVR, Emulation, Atmega, Well there are plenty of other guides out there.

Note: If your Rom 3 card is at Rev 380 or 381 or Rom 10 A20 or A21 (You will have to take your card to a dealer to unlock your card before using it. Trying to unlock it your self with some software program you got off some website will do more harm to the card than good.) Rom 3 cards rev 372-378 might be reported stream locked by NagraEdit these cards can easily be unlock by using the program Open Sesame. After unlocking always clean the card first before doing anything else. Unlike Direct TV HU cards when you clean them with Super Clean or ExtremeHU, NagraEdit does not remove the IRD information or the Boxkeys.

First open up NagraEdit ( as of Dec 16, 2003 the NagraEdit Team has release NagraEdit 4.0 with Rom11 support, and better Rom10 support)

1. Go to the Card menu and do a one step clean, it will read the card and then a dialog box will appear just hit ok there. It will then clean the card.

2. Then you want to go back up to the card menu and tell it to read the card. This will load the card information into NagraEdit.

3. Assuming you the card you are using has already been used in the receiver you wish to hack; you will not need to edit the ird information or the boxkeys. If you need to do so do it now.

4. Go to the patch tab, then hit open patch button. This is where you are going to load your NagraEdit Script which is like an ExtremeHU Hex file. (note I will cover script creation in the next section)

5. After loaded the script, hit test patch and then run patch, you will see a box at the bottom that says ran with no errors. If it reported an error do not hit the write image button. But if it ran ok with out any errors you can then go up to the top and hit write image to card.

6. The script will then write it self to the card. Then you are all set.

Script Creation: For this part will talk about making the script. This includes the blocker script that is needed. I will be using Rom Tier Maker.

1. Open up Rom Tier maker and on the right hand side is a list of type of cards. (rom3 rom10 etc) Pick the type of card you have. If you don't know what type of card you have while the satellite disconnected from the receiver insert your card and hit the sysinfo button on the remote on the screen you will see a line that say DNASP some number then Rev some number . The number right after DNASP is the type of card, DNASP 010 is a rom10. 003 is a rom3.
2. Select the channels you want to have. Note to always pick the AT 50 100 150 boxes.
3. Select the box on the right hand side of the program that says ppv string.
4. Hit the continue button, it will then ask you if you want to add blocker or ird information. Hit no. The blockers are out of date and if you are using the original access card you don't need to put in the ird information. Then it will prompt you to save a file. This is your script minus the blocker script.
5. Then obtain the latest blocker for what ever rom card you are using from your favorite DSS site.
6. Open up the file that RTM had you save in step 4 into notepad. Then do the same thing to the blocker script. Then select all the text from the blocker script (ctrl-a) and then copy and paste it to the very first line of the RTM script you had made.
Hit file save and follow the programming your card tutorial above.

I have had many posts deleted by the admins here...in fact one tonite was deleted which stated the truth,I have NOT been here for 3-4 weeks, and others are throwing my name around..the post was NOT offensive!...but did mention that www.dsscentral.net could seek "justice" for the bashing, slander, and libel being allowed here by this site and ALL who have made false allegations such as it being a Dave site!..and the thousands of members there are VERY intelligent, and could very possibly cause some "technical" dfficulties" to anyone or place spreading false rumors here against dsscentral.net!..and Kenneth and a few others should be very careful of what they say!...Believe me,U don't want to continue down this road...

BTW...www.dsscentral.net has the latest files, fixes, flashes, bins, and info for Dish,Bev,FTA,and DTV...great forums and quick response live chat...with friendly admins and members....and no bashing is allowed there!

Newbie here: 2 questions: 1) I have a BEV 3100 receiver, rom10 card. I know someone who is offering for 110$ to retrieve boxkeys, give a lock and the atmega card. Is this a good deal?

Second question 2) Can I use my system to get on DISH network, if so what do I need and is it better than the above deal using BEV

Thanks
