BigN Unregistered guest | I have spent the past couple months researching the Sammy and other DLP's and plan on making a purchase, but amidst all the complaints and imperfections with nearly every DLP out there, I find myself suddenly considering buying a CRT. Aside from size and weight and potential burn-in, could someone refresh me on why a DLP (or LCD) rear projector is thousands of dollars better than a CRT that supports 1080i resolution? I'm trying to compare PQ of the technologies, but its hard to do because CRT statitics don't mention things like native resolution and contrast ratio. DLPs do seem brighter but this is something one probably won't notice when the technologies aren't side by side. Besides, I'd go for detail over brightness. |
Anonymous | So I've certainly read about a great many people singing the praises of the HD2+ chipset over the HD3 (notably in the HLP5685 and the Toshiba), but my question is this.... Does the HD3 offer any advantage at all or has anything that the HD2+ doesn't? Aside from the contrast ratio of the HD2+ which is obviously better, is there not one thing that the HD3 has going for it that the HD2+ does not? Everyone seems to be beating up on the HD3, but I really want to know if it's truly that inferior to he HD2+ (contrast ratio aside), or if you're really going to see that much of a difference. I just don't know if I should wait, or jump in now. By this time next year, we'll probably be talking about the HD4 or HD5. I just don't know if there's ever going to be a good time to jump into this technology, becuase there's always something better around the corner? |
Johnny Was Unregistered guest | A quick summary of my 50" samsung hlp 5063 tv which I bought at circuit city with two year extended warranty about two months ago ($3800 after 10% off sale, tax & 2 yr extra protection. The good: Excellent high def picture with great brightness and contrast. Overall best 50 inch TV for quality picture at price point. Pretty good non-HD results when signal is clean, somewhat weak with weak signal. The bad: Audio is periodically a bit out of synch with video which is somewhat annoying. A stuck mirror occurred after one month of use, and circuit city had a repair guy replace the entire wheel for no more cost to me. Conclusion: Noticably better brightness than older samsung model and handling of non-hd signal. Buy it only if you are beware of likely problems in its first year or two of use and can afford the extended warantee. I hate spending extra for extended warantees, but in this case it was just too risky not to get it. |

An Unregistered guest | Minnesota, if you live in MN I am able to get the hlp5685w for roughly 3700 (depends on the number of sales) from a local chain. The catch is that you can not bother this person, they are not making much on these sales but if you are ready to place your credit card down on the spot no questions asked then this may work. I already ordered my tv and will be delivered on Friday. In addition, I do not work for them nor am I taking any financial gain. Finally, you will not give me any information the entire transaction will go though the local chain. If interested email me at peace_anan@yahoo.com |
Mike1234 Unregistered guest | Hello All, Anyone in here hooked up the new HLP4663W or HLP series with a Sony SAT-HD300 receiver/off air tuner with DVI connection? I'm having problem with the DVI connection so I wonder if other people having the sample problem. BTW, my problem is whenever I switch to DVI type, my receiver keep resetting. I'm wondering if this is the problem in the TV DVI interface or the Sony SAT-HD300 interface. Thanks in Advance. |

Anonymous | Hey I am just telling you what the plugs up here told me!! The 74 series is delayed due to the chip. Yes the 85 series has the same chip and is out in the U.S. There is no 85 series in Canada yet. I want the 74 series but if the 85 is out than I will go with that. Please prove me wrong where is the 74 series!!!!!!!! |
Anonymous | I just got off the phone with the plugs and they said they have scrapped the 74 series. If it does come out it would be december in Canada. That means Oct or Nov in the U.S. End of aug for the 85 in Canada. |

The colors of the players uniforms and and the sharpness of images on the field even the overhead blimp shots was noticeably better than anything else in the store. Only watched for about 15 mins, but detected no distortion on fast moving objects as mentioned aboveby others. One item on the stand that really sets this unit apart is the blue lighted controls that illuminates when your hand comes close to them. Not too over-done, however a little "Razzle-Dazzle" can't hurt! Too bad the side speakers are a killer for me. Only have a 50 inch space which will accomodate a HLP5674W. This unit needs 53+ width for a 50 in screen. |
sparky Unregistered guest | On May 8, 2004, I got an e-mail from a helpful fellow named Joe who had e-mailed the marketing guy at Samsung and asked what happened to the 46-inch sets with the HD2+ chip announced at CES. The response was that Samsung is going to incorporate a Digital TV Tuner (DTV) tuner and the new CableCARD slot in the set. It will be designated the HLP4677W, with a MSRP of $3800. It is delayed until Sept./Oct. to incorporate the new features. This will get a jump on the FCC's digital tuner mandate requirement that calls for 50 percent of all digital television displays measuring 36-inches and larger to have integrated ATSC terrestrial (over-the-air) broadcast tuners starting July 1, 2005. With regard to CableCARD, each cable operator will have a secure card for their programming. The card will eliminate the need for a set-top box for Digital cable and HDTV programming. It is also referred to as "plug and play" by some. If you change cable operators, you just pull the CableCARD, turn it in, and get a new one from the new cable vendor. At a Congressional hearing, a rep of the cable industry promised that the CableCARDs would be sold at cost plus an 11% or so markup, and that rumors of price gouging are wrong. I heard him say it! I saw his lips move. But I would like to see their invoices when it comes to "cost." Sets with CableCARDs should appear in stores in June/July. That's great for people who have cable, but is useless for those on satellite TV - as is having a built-in tuner, because the satellite receiver or DVR is your HDTV tuner. Also, the current CableCARD standard is a one-way deal, meaning you can't use interactive features, such as ordering a PPV show with your remote or upcoming video-on-demand services. For now, your digital cable box may make more sense for you. A two-way CableCARD standard may make it into sets in 2006 - is the best bet. |
hellbringer Unregistered guest | Another thing I noticed in the specs for the 4673 vs the 4663 is the PIP. According the prelim. doc on digiupdate http://www.digiupdate.com/Downloads/Samsung_HLP_Brochure_Prelim.pdf, the 4673 had PIP and 4663 does not. ..I find this esp important in watching sporting events, besides the better picture quality of course. |

DJ Unregistered guest | hey BigN, i just switched from LCD to DLP. reason? circuit city was unable to repair my lcd after 8 weeks of having it sit broken as the centerpiece of my livingroom. i bought the hitachi 50v500 (now 50v500a with many many architecture changes including power supply, lamp, new screen type, fan changes. etc.) all these big tv's are having tremendous reliability problems. they usually show up in month 11, not month 2. keep that in mind. i would have to say, after having LCD for 11 months (only 9 months operational), i like the DLP technology slighly better. i feel the picture is better, i'm getting used to having "black" in the palette again, instead of washed-out grey all the time for the lcd. i really liked my CRT and would probably still have it if they could only have fixed it. my sense is, both types of TV have horrible overall reliability ratings (except apparently in canada). you have to choose which one has the best PQ for your source material, and then buy and pray or buy and pay for extended warranty. you'll probably use it at some point. keep in mind that the dlp's are a little more sensitive to source material than crt. so sometimes you will see things in the picture that make it look bad (like clay faces as they sometimes call it) but the problem is that's how they really look. it's just actors covering up their age and all. as a test, walk through your local retailer and see which units are having tons of "out of box specials." those are the returned units. i probably wouldn't choose that model. in retrospect, when i went back to CC to exchange the 50v500, there were like 10 of them on the floor with very appealing OOBS pricing. i walked away... right over to the sammy. haven't looked back yet |

Bronze Member Username: TmskilzPost Number: 14 Registered: Jul-04 | Yea, the CableCard tech has positives, but it's limited in the features it has to offer when compared to set box cable boxes. I'm guessing an Nov/04 or Feb/05 launch of DLP xHD3 sets, but that's just my guesstimate! ;) |
Unregistered guest | After having read all the threads above, I want to ask (sorry if redundent), will someone with conviction please advise me on the real differences of the Samsung 5663 vs. the 5674, and if the 5674 will never be available, will the 5663 be an acceptable choice. I am only interested in purchasing a DLP TV, and if there is another brand I should be considering, please advise this also. Thank-you |
MacGyver1970 Unregistered guest | GLee The xx63 series uses the H3 chip (3rd Genereation). It has 1500:1 ratio. The total cabinet size is larger than the xx74 series, which should be the exact same size as the HLN567. The xx74 series uses the H2+ chip (4th Generation). It as 2500:1 ratio. It has a smaller cabinet size because of the smaller bezel. In the DLP technology, contrast is arguably the most important characteristic. However, whether or not it creates a better image it's highly subjective. Depending on the physical characteristics of the viewing environment and personal viewing preferences, making a definitive statement on which you will enjoy watching is nearly imposible. One other difference, and I haven't experienced this first hand, is that the 63 series with the H3 chip has a softer image vs the crispness some viewers enjoyed with the HLN series (H2 chip). Go try to look at a HLP5685 and a HLP5663 side by side. The 5685 and the 5674 should have the same guts, just the positioning of the light engine is different. Taking into account the neither set is calibrated correctly and that the physical environment is nowhere near what your home environment will be like AND you're home source will likely not be repeated through 100 TVs, make your decision. Good luck! The 74 series has been up in the air because of the FCCs requirement to have integrated HD tuners as well as cable cards. The 77 series will, in essence, be the 74 series with the integrated equipment. |
PhilJ Unregistered guest | Administrator...first let me say, all of the hard work and attention you have given this subject is appreciated. I have one question though. Your response from Steve P. said that there would be an announcement by months end. Well, that email was in mid-July...way past months end. Any new news? Also, Robb...I don't want to freak you out, but there are a whole lot of horror stories about AVS-Store.com over on the AVSForums.com site. I considered them because of the discount also, but smelled a rat and did some investigating. Think about it...why would they offer deep discounts on something that everyone wants and is so hard to come by. You discount products that you are trying to get rid of. Not new stuff. Read the forums and write to the members with first hand experience. |

Sam J Unregistered guest | Has anyone checked out the new JVC HD-52Z575 HD-ILA set out yet? While looking at the sammy 5085W at BB the other day, the only other set that seem to parallel it in picture performance was the JVC set at about $750 less. Since this set measures out less than 50 in wide, it is more compatable for my needs. The spec sheet on the JVC website is lacking in giving out details such as contrast ratio, etc, but it does go into detail about it's 3-chip technology elininating rainbow effects, screendooring effects, and fast moving scene problems. It also addresses technology that gives you the best possible picture on non-HD or Non-Digital signals. All I know for sure was that the picture quality was par to the 85 series in three different stores that I viewed them. Has anyone heard on any Negatives on this unit? Thank you! |

Anonymous | Sam due to your post I went and looked at the jvc, Since they still do not have the hlp5085w up in Canada yet. Wow what a picture on it. No rainbow No screendoor no clay face no ugly pedestal. I have bee waiting for four months for the hlp5674w and did not want to settle for the 85 series. All my reaserch was on dlp and the hd2+ chip. Well I said screw it and bought the Jvc today. It will be here on aug 18. It retails up in Canada for 4999 and i got it for 3559 plus 299 for the stand. That will be about 1000 or more cheaper than the hlp5085w. I will let you know how it is after a few days and will decide whether to return it for the samsung or keep it. Great stand for your recievers and a great technology if it does not break. I also bought the 5 year warranty just in case. Thanks for your advice Sam, I would of never looked at this T.V without your post!! |
Jankets Unregistered guest | About the new JVC LCOS sets: I just noticed Sam's post and the related one. I wish BB And CC would show all the models they sell on their web sites. I was asking the video dept mgr at CC why the 5085W wasn't on the web site. He assured me that it was even though it wasn't. I also just looked at BB's site and the HD-52Z575 isn't on it! In fact no JVC projection sets are there at all. Hopefully it will be there when I go down next weekend (50 miles). If it really looks that good, do you think I should risk buying it from the web? I can get the 61" equivalent (HD-61Z575) for as little as US$3,330 on line. The CC and BB extended warranties are a nice security blanket but the difference in price is usually huge. Any thoughts? |
New member Username: Tim_grayPost Number: 2 Registered: Aug-04 | " It retails up in Canada for 4999 and i got it for 3559 plus 299 for the stand." Where did you get it? I'm in the same position in Canada, just saw the JVC on Friday at Bay Bloor in Toronto. |
Anonymous | At future shop! 2001 audio video told me there cost was 3750 and 325 for the stand. I bought the extended warranty for 539 for 5 years. I get the T.v on wed. I have read some reviews that say the fan is noisy the black levels are crushed and you can see magenta and green around white letters. I am going to go stare at this T.v today and Try it out for a couple of weeks at home. If I do not like it I will trade for the hlp5085w. Any thoughts |
hdfdf Unregistered guest | If you can't get this deal let me know, I will hook you up with the same guy I bought it from. But you should wait and let me review this T.V at home for a week or two. The samsung still might be the way to go. |
Sam J Unregistered guest | Was glad to be of some help! As for the black levels, I was watching the opening activities of the Olymics which were at night with all the colorful outfits, the picture quality of the JVC and Sammy 85 seemed equal, out-performing anything else in BB. As for the fan noise, I did't notice any, but the showroom isn't the place to detect this if it is there. Fan noise has seem to be a comon complaint when reading reviews on all the manufactures of LCD & DLP sets. One complaint I read that I found true was that if you turn off the JVC set for more than approx. 15 sec, there is a built in circuit that won't allow you to turn it back on for a couple of minutes for what I assume is for the protection of the bulb. It also appeared to take a minute or so to come back to full brightness. For the difference in price and considering some of the downfalls of DLP especially the out of sync audio that many complain about even on the HLP series, I can put up the inconviences I mentioned. I think it is wise to go with the extended warrenty, due to it being new technology and there not being any foundation for dependability. I've had JVC products in the past and have been quite satisfied with them. Good luck with your JVC. I'm remodeling the den and plan on buying in mid-Oct. Will be looking forward to your upcoming postings on the JVC. One other thing I noticed was only a single tuner for split screen viewing. I find this no neg. for me since the main input is directly from sat. or cable box. The picture is fantastic @ the price isn't bad, a good combination! |
Sam J Unregistered guest | About getting extented warranties through internet discount stores, I have issues in handing over another $400 to $500 dollars hoping that the outfit is still in business if I need them in the future. Most likely the purchase will be by Visa or Mastercard & both of these cards offer double the manufactures warranty FREE of charge if purchased on their card. They also offer up to 5 yrs coverage at less cost. The customer service rep. said they cover all parts(even the bulb) short of throwing a brick through the set. I would feel more at ease knowing Citibank or Bank One, etc. would stand behind their warrenty instead of an unknown outfit. Just something to consider! |
AceFrehley Unregistered guest | Marched into Sears today and got the HLP4663w. Damned the 85, 74, 77 or whatever series that is supposed to be coming out. I can't wait anymore. Sears had a 10% off on everything sale for 3 hours. Saved over $300. Got killed on the 5 year extended though. I couldnt not get it though. Not with what I've heard on the reliability of these things. Plus one bulb change it half pays for it self. Ready for this... $600 for 5 years!!! (after 10% off) At least you know they're not going anywhere. I just couldnt wait for the HD2+ chip. Plus I didnt know if the cabinet would of changed in size as this one barely fits. AceFrehley Unregistered guest | I did see them side by side. No question that the 85 has a better picture. I don't have room for anything but the 46". That was the problem. I can't take a chance that the new 85 series will fit. Not to mention that it will be probably another 1K more. Plus there is no definite date on when the 46" will be out. The picture was better on the 85 no doubt. Not that much better though, especially if you view mostly SD. Which is what we all mostly view for the forseeable future. |
TVFreak Unregistered guest | Dammit, I'm tired of waiting too. I'm really tempted to order the JVC LCOS technology but I'm scared. Is the picture really that good? Somebody hold my hand here. One thing I do know is that new technology and a 61" picture for less than 3500 US to my door is cheap. |

I will still go see the samsung when it finally arrives in Canada and make my comparison. I will post my results on the Jvc by the weekend and let you know if it is a good set or if I will be returning it for the samsung. |

Look folks every technology needs to go through revisions. years from now, LCOS may be the best in the world but today the technology needs to mature. you are buying this tv for 7 to 10 years don't you want something which is proven, like dlp, lcd or pasma? at least you know their advantages/disadvantages. Yes, I have a hlp5685w and I love it, I have tested every disadvantage I have ever heard, all solved. Now days even the bulb is warranty guaranteed for 8000 hours! - An In the latest of a series of product delays, Intel Corp. has postponed the launch of a video display chip it had previously planned to introduce by year end, putting off a showdown with Texas Instruments Inc. in the fast-growing market for high-definition television displays. Intel spokeswoman Laura Anderson said on Monday that the world's largest chip maker had decided to improve picture quality before introducing the product, called liquid crystal on silicon, or LCoS. She declined to specify a new date for releasing the product. The product delay was not caused by technical problems, Intel's Anderson said |

Sam J Unregistered guest | Yo AN! When you come out and say "Guaranteed for 8K hrs" you better look at the fine print. Expected life of the bulb is 8K hrs. but guaranteed for 90 days only. Doing the math running the set 24/7 for 90 days does not equal 8000. JVC says they have proven the technology in their projector models for quite some time. Hey, I get no commision from JVC, they've been a respected name in hi-end electronics alot longer than Samsung and I don't see them risking their name on a piece of junk. The 85 model you bought is a great set from what I see. The average person on this site will probably give both of these sets to their relatives a couple of years from now when the higher resolution sets come out due to being technology junkies! + going with the JVC brings them $1K closer on paying for the next set. |

I can see why people go to the stores and say the picture wasn't great. So I fiddled with the settings hooked up my HD bell express and my dvd player. The picture quality was fantastic on this set. Even on regular sat. No noise no pixels no nothing. I did notice the fan is a little loud, But I think the dlp's have loud fans as well. I saw a little green around the white letters no magenta from two inches away. None after that. So far the picture is fantastic. Put it in theater mode and it increases the blacks quite abit. Set picutre to minus 5-9. I will post again after a week to see if my outlook has changed but for the price of this T.v I can't see spending more than a 1000 dollars more for the samsung. I paid 3550 canadian for this T.V. Samsung 56 will be 6999. Crazy money. I do suggest for anybody looking at the sammy that you look at this set. This T.v id awesome so far for the money. |
Garrett Unregistered guest | Hey all, I was only reporting what I believe is accurate based on the website I ordered my DLP from. As far as I know, my HLP5674W will be shipped 3-5 business days from 8-17-04. I will report here if anything goes wrong. Feel free to call the customer service at letsgodigital.com and ask them if you want to hear it directly. Garrett |
PhilJ Unregistered guest | I have gotta believe Ace. Garrett, I hope you are right, but I pre-ordered my set through Hypaudio.com on June 2nd. Just 1-2 hour after the pre-order was offered. If you check stock at Hypaudio, it refers you to the SAME number as LGDSuperstore (same for a couple of other web sites) So I think they are all affiliated. As I said June 2nd, and I am 36th on their list! I can't believe you placed your order a couple of days ago and it will be shipping right away. I would think the pre-orders are in the thousands by now. And I can't believe Samsung can fill the pipeline that fast. Like I said..I hope you are right, but I have to be a little sceptical. Please keep us updated. |
PhilJ Unregistered guest | Also, I sent an Email 2 weeks ago asking status. The said they hope to have some in 1-2 weeks...well it's been 2 weeks. I sent an email yesterday...and curiously no response yet. I will keep you posted. |
Garrett Unregistered guest | Update: I just called letsgodigital.com for the third day in a row. The first two days I was told that my dlp would be shipping in 3-5 business days. Today I was told a different story that confirms what some of you have already posted. I was told that the 74 series has not been released yet (what a load of crap I got from the other two customer reps since they told me that it was being released). I apologize for the misinformation, trust me when I say that I am just as frustrated and dissapointed as you are. I am defenitely canceling my order and will look elsewhere. Garrett |
TVFreak Unregistered guest | Hey Anonymous, umm..on your 52" JVC Can you tell me the dimensions on the base of the unit (NOt the set)? I need to know the actual footprint size to get an idea of the table size needed up against our wall if we order the 52.It looks in the pics that the set is much wider than the area that actually sets on a table. Thanks for your reports! |
Scott Smetana Unregistered guest | Bummer Garrett, sounds like you had your hopes up (and mine). I learned from avsforum that Steve Pasonian (marketing director for Samsung) that the 74 series should be out in early October. I've been waiting on the 5674 for months, but am seriously looking on buying a Mitsu 52725 when Ultimate Electronics/Soundtrak gets them in the first week of September. |
Anonymous | I will get the specs when I get home. |
MacGyver1970 Unregistered guest | Just for kicks, I called Let's Go Digital. They said they had 5 HLP5674s in the warehouse with 3 orders pending making 2 available. Didn't have the guts to call BS. |
Yup Unregistered guest | Anyone know how much pixellation there is in the JVC 62" LCoS, (or whatever JVC calls it)? How does that compare to the Sammy HLP5685W, for those who have seen both? |
New member Username: CubsfanNaperville, IL Usa Post Number: 3 Registered: Aug-04 | Ok, another false hope for my 5674. Garrett, I'm sure you were told what you reported to us so don't feel bad we were all hoping it was true. I have seen the Toshiba, JVC and the 5085 in different stores and at this point I'm planning on buying the JVC this weekend. I do not like the size of the Toshiba and I can not live with the base for the 5085, that leaves the JVC. I wish I could see the JVC next to a 5085 so I could be sure that the picture was equal or better than the JVC, but I have not found that combo anywhere in the Chicago area. The one thing I can say is the PQ of the JVC is much better than the 5063 and the 5063 is a good set. I look forward to more posts from "anonymous" about his/her set and unless something happens by Saturday I'll be buying the JVC. |
Anonymous | i HAVE THE 52 JVC AND THERE IS NO PIXELLATION. |
ASK Unregistered guest | Jaimie- where in chicago did you see the JVC, I haven't gotten to see it yet Thanks |
New member Username: CubsfanNaperville, IL Usa Post Number: 5 Registered: Aug-04 | You can see the JVC at BB in Downers Grove. |
Chuckster Canuck Unregistered guest | Anonymous: I also live in Canada and have been waiting for the 85. Your info on the JVC and price intrigues me! In fact I will be purchasing about 5 sets: it's a family thing. Could you tell me the exact model NO of the JVC? Is it the 52" 75, 85 or 95 model. I could not find this info in your other posts or I just missed it. Also, we have a rather long rec room and I was thinking of the 61". Any details you could provide would be helpful, ie. you bought this set at Future Shop? Thanks. |
Anonymous | HD-52Z575 THE 85 IS ALL BLACK. I BOUGHT IT AT FUTURE SHOP AND GOT A GREAT DEAL. IF YOUR IN WATERLOO I CAN HOOK YOU UP. SO FAR IT IS A GREAT T.V, FAN A LITTLE LOUD. I WILL MAKE MY FULL JUDGEMENT IN A WEEK OR SO. SAMSUNG 85 WHERE DO YOU PUT ANYTHING I.E CENTRE CHANNEL. MY STUDIO CENTRE CHANNEL FITS RIGHT IN THE STAND. IF YOU WANT SOME PICTURES LET ME KNOW. |

Sam J Unregistered guest | Found another forum on ecoustics.com mainly on the JVC set. It's not nearly as active as this site but its worth a look https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/home-video/69211.html |
New member Username: OnpwrPost Number: 1 Registered: Aug-04 | I am contiplating a purchase between JVC LCos and Sammy 5085. Reveiwing this forum, it seem the pic qualities are comparble, but I heard LCos has Lamp life of 1000-1500 hours verus DLP's 5000-8000 hours. If this is true, I would prefer DLP. Can someone confirm this. Thanks in advance. |
ccollinc Unregistered guest | Where is the best place to buy the Samsung 5085? Fryes has it for 3699. The 5 year warranty is 429...All of this plus tax. I am concerned about purchasing the set from an online vendor. Do you have to ship the model back to the vendor for repair or what...? I too have seen the 5085 side by side with the 5063. In fact it was Olympic Women's Sand vollyball....I could not move for over 20 minutes...It is incredible... |
Sam J Unregistered guest | Tech rep for JVC said bulb life should be 6-8k hrs. I have not seen that in writing thou. You can download the entire manual for this set at JVC.com. |
Vortec Unregistered guest | As far as best price, you can find that starting from the ecoustics.com home page. I did some calling of some of the merchants that came up when entering the 5085. They seemed to all think that they would have the HLP5674W in stock in around 3 weeks. |
New member Username: OnpwrPost Number: 2 Registered: Aug-04 | Sam J, I had looked at the entire manual, there is no mention of bulb life in terms of hours (it just disclaims that it will depend your environment and usuage). For those who has bought or planning to buy JVC LCos model, have any comments? If LCos bulb life is actually 1k to 2k, that comes out to replacing bulb every year with just modest usuage. Any thoughts? |
Sam J Unregistered guest | J.yoo I too read the manual and didn't find anything on expected life of the bulb. The following # gets you to the JVC Tech support people(1-800-537-5722 Press 9 when the recording starts). I was told that the warning message about the bulb that appears on screen is set for 6K hrs to remind the owner to get one on order. I was told this came out of a sevice manual. He assured me this bulb was different than the LCOS models before it. He said it was warranted for 1 year by the manufacture unlike 90 days for most DLP manufactures. It would be nice to have someone else call and see if their stories match! |
Jim B Unregistered guest | looks like the bulb costs $350? can anyone verify this? |
Sam J Unregistered guest | $250 from JVC parts P/N TS-CL110U, most likely cheaper somewhere on the net. |
Anonymous | I got my HLP6163 last week and it has the small platform under the TV that raises it slightly (I'm probably not describing it real well) instead of the TV's bottom being completely flat. I thought the HLP series did away with this? In pictures I see on various sites, they never show it. The sticker on the side of the TV shows it as an HLP6163 and the book that came with it was for the HLP, but is there any other way to confirm that this is a HLP6163 I have (I'm paranoid, I know). Thanks! |
ccollinc Unregistered guest | What about these third party warranty vendors from online stores? Mack?...etc. Can anyone tell me if they have had any positive or negative experiences with them. Are there any reviews out there comparing the extended warranties...? |
New member Username: VortecPost Number: 3 Registered: Aug-04 | Has anyone seen the new Sammy LTP468W LCD flat panel? Pixel speed is supposed to be down to 12ms. True 1080P native resolution might be worth spending an extra 1400 over the HLP4674W (which always downconverts to 720P). |
Wired1 Unregistered guest | I just bought the Captain Kirk Samsung HLP5085w for $3299 at Circuit City. They have it for $4199, but in the computer it is $3799, and then I told them that Best Buy was giving a free $500 home theater system to me if I bought it there, and the manager gave me another $500 off making the set cost $3299. Also, I got 10% off all my accessories! So, don't think you can't bargain, or get a better price at a retail store. You might have to haggle, or go to a few, but in the end, $3299 seems to me an amazing deal for this set! A word on extended warranty... Don't do it. Samsung offers ONE YEAR in home repair that covers PARTS and LABOR with this set. After that, if something does break on the set, it will likely be the same money or LESS to fix it, as the 600 dollar warranty... just my opinion. Enjoy whatever set you get, they are all pretty nice! |
Sam J Unregistered guest | Great Deal on the Cpt. Kirk. If you used a Visa or Mastercard to buy it, register it with the card company, most will double the manufactures warranty Free! They will offer you up to 5 yrs. coverage at a pretty resonable price which you can take or leave. |
Anonymous | This weekend I will be going back to the store to return my hln6117W and get the new hlp5685. I could not stand the fact that the hln6117 chip was two generations behind the new hlp5685. i originally bought my hln model for $3580 (+250 for the stand). I will get the hlp5685 for $4000. Does anyone know the correct contrast on the hlp5685? I read on this forum that the contrast is 3000:1 but when I looked at the 5685 brochure on samsungusa.com it stated that the contrast is 2500:1. which one is it? |
