Ports can be round, square, triangle, rectangle, . Slot generally runs the majority of one side of the box top to bottom. I've heard several people on here prefer slot ports, especially the ones that seem to know what they're talking about. Here is an example. See the slots are long and narrow apposed to round.

What is the advantage of having that slot in the middle? Is the a point of putting a slot if you only have a box for 1 sub?

Ported boxes allow for higher SPL (boom). They have single and double sub ported boxes just like there are single and double sealed boxes. What kind of sub do you have/are you planning to get?

I know ported boxes increase SPL, but what good is the slot in the middle?

That's where the "extra" SPL comes from. Ported boxes allow the sub to be more ifficient with less power. Sealed boxes require more power to get the same response.

The advantage over a tube is that you can have a larger port opening (square inches/CM)but to have the same tuned frequancy the port needs to be longer then a smaller tube. what this means is there is a lower port air velocity so less port noise.

plus slot porrts can be made to any size and costs nothing to do unlike circle ports where you have to buy the tubing.

thanks,
