Scott Smetana Unregistered guest | For what it's worth - I spoke with a Samsung rep today (1-800-Samsung) and she said that the 74 series has been pushed back!!! She guessed even until after X-mas!! I want the HD2+ but not the Stand!!! I've heard a RUMOR (and seen a brochure) that the 85 series stand is OPTIONAL. Is this true???? If so, bring on the 85!! (HLP5685 due out in mid-August). |

An Unregistered guest | Anonymous, do you know if this includes tax and shipping? |
Anonymous | An, Tax & shipping is not included yet. I think shipping is $55 to Orange County & tax is depend on your county. |
nug29 Unregistered guest | This just in the "well informed" sales manager at Circuit City in White Plains, NY scoffed at the thought that there is a difference between the HD3 and HD2+ chip. Hmm, I wonder why? I wonder whether the fact that there is a $300 rebate on the 4663 and 5063 ( down to $2699 and $2999) is a coincidence? Too cynical for my own good. |
Anonymous | Well here we are at the end of the month and still no mention from an official source about the fate of the xx74 series. You can't go by http://www.digiupdate.com/105_DLP_RPTV.html because that website is out dated, (March) due to unfortunate situation. |
salukis89 Unregistered guest | I spoke to the dept manager in my local Circuit City, and he claims they won't be carrying any of the Sammy HD2+ sets, only the current 4663W and 5063W models. Whether to believe him...well, you be the judge. |
scarslos Unregistered guest | nug29: The Circuit City prices after rebate are $2899 (46") and $3199 (50") according to the website. Were there any further discounts at the store? I ordered a 4663 w/ 3 yr. extended warranty from OneCall for $3K delivered (this coming Wednesday!), which I thought was a great deal, but that price you mentioned from a local store is very good. |
nug29 Unregistered guest | scarslos, I was surprised too, so I thought maybe they were HLN's, but they say HLP with $300 mail in rebate. |
Scott Smetana Unregistered guest | FYI- Just learned from avsforum.com that someone heard from Steve Pasoni today (samsung head rep) that the 74 series will be out in Early October. I Really doubt the stand is optional on the 85 series - I think the pdf file on the 85 has a mis-print. It would be awesome if I was wrong since the 5685 is due out this month. Also FYI - I didn't realize the Mitsu had 2 higher lines than the 525 that do not have the crappy reflective shield. I have no idea the cost or when they will be released. You can see them at mitsubishitv.com. I still am holding out for a tabletop Samsung 56 inch with the HD2+ (5674). However, if I wasn't so paranoid, I would probably go ahead with the 5663(HD3). The 52 inches of the Mitsu is just a little small for my space. Happy waiting all. |
JesterX Unregistered guest | what does everyone have against the stand on the 85 series? |
Silver Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 126 Registered: May-04 | I'll tell you what........the fact that I can't put my PS2, DVD player, Digital Cable box and my receiver under it. I have to buy a separate stand just for those to put on the side. I don't care for the 85 series. |
JesterX Unregistered guest | Martini, but you have to buy a stand to hold the tv and all that stuff anyways. but, thats why the make different styles. im glad that a company finally came out with a tv with its own stand that looks good. |
New member Username: RandygatorLakeland, FL United States Post Number: 1 Registered: Jul-04 | Finally decided on the HLP6163W. Anyone bought online. I can save$400-$500 going that route. What about extended warranty. Which ones cover the lamp and unlimited suge Joules levels? Has anyone thought about using a UPS on their DLP to protect from some of the line garbage and always allow an orderly shutdown when the power goes out. (Suddenly shutting off the power doesn't allow for the proper cooling of the lamp). |

Maybe my eye isn't as sensitive as others, but I ried long and hard and could not tell any difference. The Toshiba's side speakers kinda kill the deal for me as well... Sammy HD2+ it is.... |
Unregistered guest | I noticed the website 1-888-camcorder you mentioned in an earlier post. Price for the HLP5685 was 4098.77 + cheapest shipping option was 225.00. Total 4323.77. Can I suggest ONECALL.COM. No I don't work for the company but this Spokane, WA based company has sold me other items, camera, camcorder, etc. Great Company and if you buy the extended warranty and don't use it.. They refund 50% of the warranty as a credit at the end of term. I'm using it for my new SAMSUNG. Price is 4323.77..no shipping or tax. One problem not in stock yet and I want mine by OLYMPICS. |
OldTechNut Unregistered guest | I just canceled the scheduled delivery of my HL-P5663 after seeing the way another HLP model handled HD fast action sports. I had previously only seen movies and slow action demos at the dealers, and they looked great. I could not believe the degree of blurring during fast action and can not imagine watching a football or basketball game on this set. Is this a know limitation of the DLP technology? Are there other options in this price range that do a better job of handling fast motion? |

Got it Unregistered guest | I really wanted to wait on the 6197, but I got tired of waiting and picked up the 6163. I was able to get it at my local Best Buy for about the same price I would have gotten online (after some discounts). Best Buy was also able to get it in 3 days as opposed to three weeks online. So far I'm very happy with it. HD and DVDs look fantastic. Digital cable looks good as well. Analog cable doesn't look as good, but I believe that is because it's not as good. When you put analog on a big screen and can compare it to HD it will not look as good. When I watch analog for a while without comparing it to digital or HD, it looks no worse that it did on my HD Mits CRT-RPTV. I'm sure the models yet to come will look much better and have more features, but that will always be the case. All in all, I'm happy. |
Silver Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 130 Registered: May-04 | It seems to me that as long as you have at least digital cable, an HDTV will be ok for quality when you don't have the highest signal. |
Bronze Member Username: JrestSt. Louis, Missouri USA Post Number: 58 Registered: Jun-04 | If you really take a close look at your current tv while watching a SD satellite feed, you can see some grainyness. I have a 27 inch Sony Trinitron and when I'm right up to it, I can see it's not 100% clean...but if I sit back about 15 feet, you can't see it, so I can imagine bopping up to a 46 inch or higher screen, it's definitely going to show the SD signals. Mt. Weather Unregistered guest | Hi Folks. Just got off the phone with Samsung and was told that they are "pulling back" the 70/74 series and may not be releasing them at all. Looks like the only thing they are going to build with the HD2+ chip is the 85 series. He said the 90 series (1080p native) will probably come out in October. 63 series should see a price drop in October. Like many of you, I too have been patiently awaiting the HL-P5674W with my credit card in my hot little hands. Oh well. May end up settling for the 5663W. Let's hear from more of you who have bought the 5663's. What do you think of PQ in SD and DVD playback? |

New member Username: Kal853Post Number: 2 Registered: Jun-04 | Hi guys, I just got of the phone with Samsung and the assured me that the HLP5674W WILL becoming out around the end of August or the beginning of September. He said that many employees who want to get it have already been garrunteed that they will get theirs by the first week in September. So I'm having a hard time believing that it's being pushed back at all. |
New member Username: T4o6o2lPost Number: 2 Registered: Aug-04 | So, 2 people saying the opposite of each other while supposedly referencing the same source. Sounds like good old fashioned outsourced customer service |
Mt. Weather Unregistered guest | Hey Scott. I hope your information is right and mine is wrong. But the guy I spoke with was very definite that the 74 series was scrapped due to problems with cable standards and incorporating the cable card and hd receiver. He was very knowledgeable as to technology. He said ALL 63 series have the 7 segment color wheel and even described the optional equipment stand available for the 85 series. Can't imagine why he'd make this up or just blow smoke. What's the benefit to him? BTW, sorry for the double postings. When I try to post, after a wait I get a window that says "Web site not responding". And so I try again. It's happening with this post also. |
PAK MAN Unregistered guest | On the HLP5685w they alsways post the deepth at over 20" BUT in the written description they say it under 14"? Can anyone explain??? |
New member Username: Kal853Post Number: 3 Registered: Jun-04 | Okay, I just called Samsung back. Mr Weather your information was accurate. I talked to Mike V. at extension 2126 and he told me that the 74 series was scrapped since the FCC didn't mandate to have the cablecard feature, they didn't want to make it. Bummer. He told me that the 85 series will be the only line with the HD2+ chip. Sorry for the bad news everybody. |
estam Unregistered guest | So now that the 74 has been scrapped what is everyone thinking of doing now? 85s? And am I right in assuming that the 85 is the exact same thing as the 74 except for that hideous stand? |
New member Username: Kal853Post Number: 4 Registered: Jun-04 | Yes I think the 85's are the exact same technology as the 74's except for the speakers - HD2+, 3000:1 contrast etc. I've decided that I'll probably go with the 5685 now that they've scrapped the 74 series. I honestly don't like the cabinet near as much, but I guess I don't have another option with those specs. |
estam Unregistered guest | Scott, Is there a stand that goes around the existing stand of the 85 so you can put receivers somehwere? thanks estam.....also whats different about the speakers? |
New member Username: Kal853Post Number: 5 Registered: Jun-04 | Not that I've seen or heard. What I meant was the speakers in the 85's are built into the left and right of the screen, and the speakers of the 74's are below the screen. Also, I haven't really compared the specs on their speakers such as wattage and range. I did see a photo of speaker and subwoofer set designed specifically to match the 85's. |
Mt. Weather Unregistered guest | Yeah, I'd probably go with the 5685 too, except for the fact that they just finished my custom cherry home entertainment cabinet, which was designed to accomodate the 5674 on top. The cabinet was two grand, so I'm not trashing it to get a pedestal model. BTW, for those considering the 85's, the guy at Samsung said the optional equipment rack that integrates with the pedestal is sort of a glass "stadium seating" arrangement of shelves. I wouldn't mind waiting for the 90 series, except for the fact that the 1080p unit appears to be planned only for the 61", and that's too big for my space. The 56" just barely fit, and that's with the thin bezel and bottom speakers. If anyone hears anything about the 90 series coming out with a 52" or 56", please let us know. The Samsung guy I spoke with said the only other size he was aware of for the 90 series was a 70" or 73". Nice, but way too big for my space. Again, feedback please from any who have gotten the 63 series. How do DVDs look? How is non-HD broadcast? Grainy? Screen door? Not bad? Does anyone know if the 5663 is out yet? Thanks to all who have taken the time to post here. |

I have had a standing order for the HLP5674W at avs-store.com for over a month now. They claim that they call Samsung everyday to check the status and that Samsung keeps delaying the next shipment, having already shipped a batch of them that I was too late for. The 77 Series will ship Q1 2005. The 77 Series is the same thing as the 74 Series, but with the bulit in tuner and cablecard. dogman Unregistered guest | I just puchased the HLP5063W last night at Best Buy. Great open box deal ($2899 with $300 gift card). Unfortunately, it appears to be stricken with the audio sync problem mentioned earlier (probably why it was a return/open box). The problem is intermittent, and is worse on some channels than others. Checked our other TV and it's definitely not a source issue. Anyway, it is a beautiful TV with a great picture (even with my analog DISH Network signal), so I may see about a repair/replace. Other option is to return it and go pick up a Sony KF42WE610 open box for a lot cheaper. |
Administrator Unregistered guest | Robb & TOOL, Steve Panosian is not some Samsung rep... He is the Director of Marketing for Digital Projection TV at Samsung Electronics America - He is the man in charge. I would definitely trust Steve's word over any other Samsung employee. Steve makes the decisions, and then the other Samsung employee's slowly find out about it. Steve will always be the first to know what's what. Think about it, why would Samsung all the sudden decide not to make an HD2+ Tabletop model? It doesn't even make sense! Think of all the sales they'd loose because people would go buy the Toshiba or Mitsubishi HD2+ Tabletop models. Read these posts in the AVS Forum for more information. Mt. Weather Unregistered guest | Scott and I both took the time to call Samsung directly, speak with a person there who represented themselves as being knowledgeable regarding this issue. I don't know about Scott, but I asked many questions and was given specific answers by this person without hesitation. Our conversation lasted about ten minutes. We then kindly relayed this disappointing information to the forum here simply in the interests of sharing information. How can this be viewed as "speculating"? I don't think anyone disputes that Mr. Panosian should certainly be in a position to know what's going down. It would be really nice if he would release a definitive statement of whether or not this model is being released and approximately when. As well as an explanation for all this confusion. Scott and I had live extended conversations with people at Samsung. The Administrator has a one word email response. One word answers scare me. Is it really plausible that we now know more about this than Mike V. at Samsung? Based on a one word email?!! I would request that the Administrator inform Mr. Panosian that many people have been patiently awaiting this model which Samsung announced would be released in May. Some of us have already spent a lot of money having cabinets built for it, based on the dimensions provided. Others have put off this hotly anticipated purchase waiting with baited breath for the deity at Samsung to speak. We have all spent many hours on this forum, which will have largely been a waste of time if we are discussing a "fictitious" product. May we have a definitive statement by someone in authority? Not just a "Yes." Also, it would be very calming to have an explanation for the contradictory information consistently given to at least two forum contributors from marketing agents at Samsung corporate. And an apology. If I don't get some strong assurances soon, I'm goin' back to Sony. That's my two cents guys. |

I was only trying to shed what additonal light on the subject I could, not declare war on anyone else's comments or viewpoint. I too was very specific and detailed in my questions to the Samsung rep I talked to, and he was specific and detailed in giving me answers. However I do agree that it would be much more likely that the director of marketing would know more about the situation than a telephone rep. I certainly hope this is the case, espescialy since I really love the 5674 and I just found out that neither the 5085 or the 5685 will not fit into my hometheater setup. I would agree that we need further clarification by Mr Panosian, or someone else from Samsung significantly informed. I would also add that I don't think anyone is here to deliberately challenge each others information or views, only to help all us determine the facts of the situation and help each other make informed decisions. |
Anonymous | I too spoke with Steve P. last week and he indicated that the 74 model would have the newer chip but not the tuner or cable slot...those will be added to the 77 model which is still months away. Tweeter has pretty much confirmed this, although they do not have dates as of yet. |
cwpopi Unregistered guest | so what about the 6163 is this tv worth buying |
Anonymous | Straying from topic for a minute, Robb, did you really wire $4k to an online vendor for a product that hasn't even been released or announced yet??? I'm not sure the credibility of that vendor but you really may want to try and reverse your payment and leave a credit card. They shouldn't charge your card until there is more accurate information on the product. If they are requiring you to wire money to them it seems something shady may be going on there. At least with a credit card you can report it to your card company so they don't pay the vendor if it turns out to be fraud. Just my advice. |
New member Username: Robb_murdockPost Number: 5 Registered: Aug-04 | Anonymous: Yes, I wired the money. They have been in biz 22 years; and according to BBB they have resolved issues before. The bottom line is that I REALLY want that TV; and even though it churns my stomach, I am taking the risk. If it ends well, I will sing their praises. If not, I will take appropriate actions. Wish me well! |
Jonny Utah Unregistered guest | Hmmm, it still sounds kind of strange. Especially since there is no release date and no MSRP. I looked at the site and while the price looks attractive we don't know if Samsung is going to price it very aggressively and the deep discount may not be anything special for the risk. I guess I just don't see the benefit of wiring that money now vs. waiting until the product is officially announced with an accurate release date. Anyway, good luck to you. I also saw in an earlier message of yours that you missed the first batch of releases. That is incorrect as this product hasn't been released yet at all. They may have been referring to the 5663. |

I am going to go back and see if there are any problems with this set (audio synch delays etc.) I wonder if the newer chip has any thing to do with the improved quality and whether the new samsungs will also be improved when they come out with the newer chip. The only drawback, I could see to the toshiba is the speakers are mounted on each end of the set increasing its width to almost 59 inches. This might eliminate it from some home settings. I still have time to shop, but the toshiba 52 dlp looks very good. Lew |

Administrator Unregistered guest | Mt. Weather, I understand that you took time to contact Samsung etc, and I'm sure everyone is thankful for that. I hope you don't take this post the wrong way -- I'm trying to respond to all your statements/questions. I'm sure the rep you spoke with represented himself as being knowledgeable, but the fact is, he had false information. I'm sure he believed what he was telling you was accurate, that's why he came off sounding so reliable. The reps are trained to provide support for current products, not future products... Jdmoser from AVS Forum said it best: "I think that after reading many of these threads over the past year I would recommend to all readers that using any companies customer service personnel as sources for release dates on electronics is usually flawed as they do not have direct contact with their own Marketing and Production. They are primarily trained to handle the support of items already in production and distribution. We need a mole in the Marketing and Production offices." As stated above, the reps do not have direct contact with the Marketing and Product Development departments. The information they know comes from old preliminary brochures or word of mouth (rumors) around their cubicles. I think that's why many people view the information from customer service reps as speculation. Steve Panosian probably will release a "definitive statement" when it's closer to the release date of the product. 95% of the consumers out there do not know about the 74 Series that is coming out, so why would Samsung release the information to the general public early? If they did, more and more consumers would hold onto their money and not buy the 63 Series that Samsung has out now. -And Samsung has a much higher profit margin on the 63 Series then they will on the 74 Series. This means they want to sell as many 63 Series sets as they can before the 74 Series is available because they might have to lower the price of the 63 Series when the new 74 Series comes out... The 74 Series WILL be released. Like I said yesterday, it makes NO SENSE for Samsung not to release a Tabletop set with the HD2+ chip. There is an "explanation for all this confusion" in an earlier e-mail that I received from Steve Panosian that is more then a "one word email response". You can read it here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?postid=4068587#post4068587 Samsung never publicly announced that the 74 Series would be released in May. You may have gotten that information from this preliminary brochure, but that's why it's a preliminary brochure... It is subject to change. http://www.digiupdate.com/Downloads/Samsung_HLP_Brochure_Prelim.pdf As for an "explanation for the contradictory information consistently given to at least two forum contributors from marketing agents at Samsung corporate"... If you're referring to those customer service reps, I wouldn't call them "marketing agents at Samsung corporate". Some of the confusion may come from the fact that: Samsung was originally going to release a new TV (the 74 Series), and by the end of the year, they would be replaced by the 77 Series (the same TV as the 74 Series, but with a built-in ATSC Tuner and CableCard). Then because of the FCC mandate, Samsung decided that they would not make the 74 Series, but instead release the 77 Series right away with the built-in tuner and cablecard. Then a month or two later, Samsung decides that there is a large consumer demand for this TV WITHOUT the tuner and cablecard, so they change gears again and decide to make the 74 Series and hold off on the 77 Series for a few months. That's where we're at now. That's why there have been so many delays with this new TV. That's why there is so much confusion regarding the 74/77 Series, and that's why none of the customer service reps have updated information. The 74 Series will be here by early October. The 77 Series will be here Q1 2005. That's my 98 cents. ;) |
The oldtimer Unregistered guest | For heaven's sake, its just a dam TV set that will be obsolete in 6 months like the computer I'm typing on now! Get a life! |
Anonymous2 Unregistered guest | Administrator, what tv are you going to buy and at what price. |
Administrator Unregistered guest | I'll be getting either the Samsung HLP4674 or 4677. Not sure what price I'll get it for. |
1234 Unregistered guest | what functionality does the tuner and cablecard add (what will the difference be between 74 & 77 in performance)? Thx |
TheCapt79 Unregistered guest | Hey... just thought i would say this since ive been following this post for months... I just recieved the HLP5663 from the AVS powerbuy... the picture is incredible, and more than meets my expectations, but i noticed when playing HALO on Xbox, there was a slight delay in the action and not quite the smoothe gameplay i was hoping for. Does anyone know if getting better cables something will help this out? I dont think i can handle playing Madden or HALO 2 with a noticeable delay... it would ruin what little game i have left in me! Or will the 74 series solve it? Thanks... Curt |
Jules471 Unregistered guest | I have the HLP5063 and at first I had the same problem with my Gamecube (delay), but once I purchased the component cables that goes with my Gamecube that problem went away. So yes, better cables do improve response time. |
Jules471 Unregistered guest | By the way, I've been reading all your comments for quite some time and I've noticed everybody so consumed about the new HD2+ chip being so much better than the HD3. Well, that could possibly be but I tell you since owning my HLP5063 for over a month now and also having HiDef from a Cablevision box using a DVI cable, the picture is incredible. Some channels don't look as good as others but when you view this TV with a good HD channel like INHD; man the potential of this TV shows. And if you say that the HD2+ is a way better chip I don't see how much more they can improve on it. Unless your're that meticulous about your picture quality. Me, I personally wanted an excellent picture (especially spending the amount of money for it) to go with the rest of my surround sound system to complete my home theater and I think I found it with this television. I also personally feel that you are not going to see a drastic difference from the two chips (HD3 and HD2+) that warrents you to spend up to $1000 more and also wait longer for it. But hey, if you have the patience and the extra cash to spend that's your choice I'm just giving my take on this better chip issue. One other thing to keep in mind is - if and when you decide to purchase any of these DLP televisions take into account the cost for other items you would need to optimize your television like power strips, cables, stand, etc. Just something to think about guys. |
Unregistered guest | I have a quick question for any HL-Pxx63w owners. I'm on the sidelines waiting for the 74 series and wanted to know if you've noticed any significant artifacting (pixilation?) with fast movement such as sports, etc. ??? Its the only little quirk about these TVs that really bugs me so I'd like it to be minimal in the set I buy. Any info would be appreciated. Jadin |
estam Unregistered guest | I'm in the same boat as Jadin.....MY main focus for the 74 is for sports especially football and hockey......Any thoughts??? |
Jules471 Unregistered guest | Well to tell you the truth, I don't think it's all the DLP's fault when it comes to pixilations. When I first started looking for a new Big Screen TV that was one of my concerns too. I really did some extensive research on trying to find the right one for me. I looked at all types Plasma, LCD, and DLP, and I did notice that pretty much most if not all had pixilation on fast movements and when there's too much action going on in the backround. Some less then others but it still was there. So I was a little concern especially the fact of the amount of money it was going to cost me to get one of these. I currently have digital cable I noticed one day (watching tv on my regular 27" tube)that there was pixilation on one of the digital channels I was watching. I changed to another digital channel and the same thing. It pixilated on fast motions. So I don't think it's really the television's (DLP)doing, because I did notice with the HD channels I have now I get more pixilation on certain channels than I do on others. I watch a baseball game on INHD and I hardly saw any pixilation while at the same time turning to channel 13HD(PBS)watching some nature thing and there was pixilation everywhere. So again it could very well be the HD signal coming through your cable box or satellite. Oh, by the way, I also watched a Hockey game on BravoHD and it was awesome-hardly any pixilation. |
estam Unregistered guest | BravoHD had hockey? Glad to hear there were hardly any pixilation! |
DLPPa Unregistered guest | Jules is right...you guys have to remember that all digital TV is compressed (just like all digital photos). Try to switch your digital camera to RAW (uncompressed) and see if you can get 3 pictures on your card! Each channel also has limited bandwidth. One of the keys to motion compression is that you deal with what has changed from frame to frame rather than resending all the frames. When not much is changing the compression can be fairly lossless and remain within bandwidth limitations (high resolution). When there is a lot of action and a lot is changing the CA has to limit resolution and accept more losses to limit bandwidth. That's what causes pixelation and that's why you see it even on a analog TV if the transmission was digital somewhere in the chain. This showed up a lot early with DirecTV when no one had digital TV's but their compression equipment has gotten much better. I see what some people would call pixelation on my HLP5063 when the analog signal sucks...it's just the TV making black and white decisions because it doesn't have enough information (signal) to work with. Never see it with a strong signal. |
Chintoo Unregistered guest | I heard on some other thread that 74 series was scrapped by Sammy for HLP. Is this true? I'm also waiting for HD2+, 46", no pedestal. |
Jadin Unregistered guest | Thanks for the information on artifacting/pixelation. I think I get the basic idea of what is going on and it makes sense. So, if I understand correctly, its not really a flaw of the TV but a reality of the compression which takes place in the transmission of a tv signal. The digital photo analogy helped. I scale down photos all the time for mailing and printing and see the reduced quality as it gets smaller. With TV, its just the same but with lots of sequencial pictures coming through the pipe very quickly. Ok, with that said I have a follow up question...Where is this compression taking place? If the signal is compressed at the source for the sake of fast transmission then the issue isn't with the TV at all. It would be similar to my emailing a compressed photo to a friend so their mailbox won't go over quota. No matter how powerful a computer they have it will still only have the quality at which it was sent. If it is the TV that is doing the compression, then it seems that the TV is simply being overloaded with data for screens that have a lot of motion and can't keep up with the task. Therefore, faster processors in TVs will slowly resolve this issue as newer models and technology comes out. Or is it a bit of both? Under the first scenario, the TV I chose makes little difference. Under the second, waiting for bettter chips is beneficial. Thanks again. This board and its members are consistently very helpful! Jadin |
Jules471 Unregistered guest | Jadin, It's your top box (cable/satellite) that provides the signal to your television. The compression I think is most likely done at the local cable company and then transferred to your cable box or satellite. And then your box sends the video signal to what ever television you have whether HDTV or regular. Like a typical monitor it just displays what's being fed into it. So what ever improvement of technology that needs to be made should be made at the local cable or satellite station. Which I think it will eventually happen since HD is becoming in more demand. |
Mt. Weather Unregistered guest | What is the "AVS Power Buy" I see now and then in posts? Is it possible that a number of us interested in the same model (HL-P5674W)can present for bid a combined order of 10 or 20 units for an extraordinary discount? If so, my preference would be to use a "bricks and mortar" chain outlet, such as Tweeter. That way we each could deal with a local retailer, maybe even negotiate a free extended warranty, or half price. Am I on track or off? |

charlie g Unregistered guest | Hello.. I currently have Voom and have not yet purchased my set. I for some reason am waiting for the 5674W like many but am considering last years model. Does ANYONE really know if this new Tantus line is supposed to be that much better than last years. Has anyone seen Voom on these TV's..Are we all just crazy!? Thanks |
Anonymous | As far as "pixellation" goes for these digital TVs, I'd be willing to bet it's not the fault of the TV at all. It's the compressed signal that is falling short. Certain scenes in movies require higher bandwidth than others.. if the allocated bandwidth is less than that needed for the intended picture, you will get 8x8 pixel blocks. I too, thought it was the TV and returned a 50v500 back in March because of it. I was watching DareDevil (broadcast via Comcast) and couldn't believe how "pixellated" it became during many scenes. Try the TV you want with an uncompessed source/signal before you allow the naive masses otherwise. You SHOULD NOT see this phenomenon during DVD playback, for example. Give it a go, don't buy into someone else's mis-information. Pixellation is *usually* due to poor signal bandwidth, not a shortcoming of the display. |
Hugh Unregistered guest | My bulb just burnt out in my HLP5063 I've had for only a month. Out of curiosity,I went into the service menu a few days ago to check the "hour meter". It read 102 hours. Bulb went out with only about 115 hours on it. Very disappointing. Love the TV,but not very happy about this. Thought I'd share this with everyone. |
Unregistered guest | I am considering a purchase of the Samsung HLP4663W set. However, I have Charter Digital Cable and will upgrade to the HD box. In our area they only offer a few true HD signals. Everything else will be their standard digital signal. Will this set perform properly given the limited cable options? If this set doesn't perform properly, how about the 42" Sony projection LCD? Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated. |
Mike1234 Unregistered guest | Does any know any place that sell the new HLP4663W matching TV stand? I want to buy the one that is pictured with the HLP4663W TV. Your help is appreciated. Thanks Mike1234 |
Anonymous | Went to the CC in Ocala Fl. (thanks harley1 for the heads up) saw the New Kirk next to the hlp4663w. The Kirk was $3900 and the 63 was $2800. The Kirk was definitly brighter and clearer. A thousand bucks worth? I don't know. The lettering that was displayed was clearly crisper on the kirk as were the colors. Myself? I'll wait for the 46" version of the HD2+ after what I saw. |
BigN Unregistered guest | I have spent the past couple months researching the Sammy and other DLP's and plan on making a purchase, but amidst all the complaints and imperfections with nearly every DLP out there, I find myself suddenly considering buying a CRT. Aside from size and weight and potential burn-in, could someone refresh me on why a DLP (or LCD) rear projector is thousands of dollars better than a CRT that supports 1080i resolution? I'm trying to compare PQ of the technologies, but its hard to do because CRT statitics don't mention things like native resolution and contrast ratio. DLPs do seem brighter but this is something one probably won't notice when the technologies aren't side by side. Besides, I'd go for detail over brightness. |
