Speakers I have connected are Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble IV with the Center Chanel ll for center. I also have 2 outside speakers (Dual) connected to the B connectors. I want to upgrade to not only get DTS and Dolby Digital but also a powered subwoofer. (room in 13' w x 20' long. Without breaking the bank (300-500ish??) what receiver/speaker combo's would you recommend? I was thinking Sony STR DE 597 with Cerwin Vega AVS 5.1 speaker package. Am I off base? I have a 5 disc harmon carden cd changer and a Hitachi DVD player, Panasonic27" tv (all newer) 33% Movies 33% TV 33% CD's thanks so much for your help |

As far as a subwoofer, maybe look at the velodyne cht-10, you can get this online from www.jr.com or somewhere else for under $200. There maybe other equipment that is better for the money, but theis is where i'd look first to get a reciever and sub for under $500. |

I would get a good set of speakers for the front then get the matching center. for that your talking in the neighberhood of $600. then use the rest of the speakers for now that you have allready and upgrade those later. now i'm not saying you SHOULD do this i'm just giving you an alternative way of building your system. the others have given you soild selections i'm just giving you another option. also a cheap good universal dvd-a/sacd player is the pioneer 563a. $100 but it's been replaced by a cheaper made one so if you want one better get it fast. anyways i hope you take my post as an attempt to help and not put you down for trying to get away inexpensive. I have no problem trying to be thrifty "trust me" |
