I don't know how much cheaper you're talking, but it's hard to get what a Brahma has for less money. It's a great deal on a fantastic sub.

i have a hifonics bx1500d 1500 rms @ 1 ohm. 1000 rms @ 2 ohms and 500 rms @ 4 ohms. do you guys have any idea what i might hit db wise with this sub??? my car has 2 alpine 6x9's and they make my mirror shake at only 20 rms each. would put this sub in a big ported box. what should i port it at (frequency wise). box is about 3.3 cubic feet which is within the recomended zone or whatever. i think it is 2.5 to 3.5ft ported.

It depends on the vehicle you have, but a Brahma 15 ported in a hatchback will typically hit 150+ in a ported box, do a 4.0 cu ft. ported box tuned to 35 hz for SPL. For more SQ, do a 3.0 cu ft. ported tuned to 28 hz, that will hit in the mid to high 140s probably, again depending on the vehicle.

thanks jon i think ill go with a 15" brahma in a ported 4 cubic ft box and tuned to 35hz. i kinda wanted to rebuild my box anyway. one last question jon could i compete in some local competitions and not be laughed at with this system?

It depends on how serious your locals are, I'd advise you to go to one first and see how the winner did, and take yours to a shop and have it metered. What kind of vehicle do you have and how serious are you about SPL? Do you still want to listen to the subs everyday? 150 db (assuming you have an SUV, Hatchback, or if your trunk is coupled with the cabin) isn't something to laugh about, especially with one subwoofer, if you can pull it off, and most people don't hit 150+ anyway. Most "local" competitions that I've been to (local being ones that aren't of an official organization) consist of cheap Circuit City and Best Buy systems, with the occasional guy thinking you have no chance against his Audiobahns with 3000+RMS, while you have 1/3 of the power. Then they're embarrassed by the one guy who knows what he's doing lol. You'll want to consider sound deadening for the vehicle, if you have a trunk you WILL have to couple the airspace via holes in the package tray (this can sometimes add 10 db to certain vehicles, a HUGE difference).

ok ill check out a local comp. once i get my sub ill get it metered and maybe show ya how it all turned out. ive gota 1995 pontiac grand am se witha 3.1L v-6. might get a new alternator, but im gonna see how mine performs first. nice car for a 16 yr old. yeah im gonna fold down the back seat when its not in use. so yeah the trunk will be "connected" to the cabin. can't wait for the first day of school(weird uhh???) when i pull in with my system blarin. so im asuming im gona kill the guy with the loudest car at school. (2 sony 12" subs on a piece of crap amp)lol. There is a few guys at my school with the audiobahn junk in there car aswell but i don't think they'll be any trouble. anyways thanks for all your help man.

If HEs the loudest car in school, you'll DESTROY him. You won't have any trouble with ANY of the kids in your school.

I've never heard a brahma 15", but the 12" is almost identical looking to the Shocker I have, and if the 15" performs anywhere near as well as a 15" shocker then you are going to be most impressed and probably half-deaf when you get out of your car once everything's installed, my 12" Shocker is way underpowered now but it pounds hardcore even with my stock HU, can't wait to see what your car get's metered at

You're powering a sub with your head unit? you're asking for disaster.

thats really stupid to power yur sub with a head unit man. can really damage your head unit and your sub by underpowerin your sub.

You never mentioned an amp. A head unit isn't really going to help a subwoofer "pound" any more, it may give a flatter response through equalization, but it won't make a sub louder. That's why I was under the impression you meant you were powering it with a head unit.

hmm.... I thought maybe cleaner signal from HU would provide tighter bass response, but whatever, basically I guess you all never take anything for granted but really who is going to try to power subs with just their HU, I mean seriously I never thought I would have to specify that I had an amp on the darn thing outside of saying I had it way underpowered, but oh well, you all have been posting for awhile so I guess you learned to never assume the obvious

You would be surprised lol. I've seen subs powered with a head unit, it's not pretty as you can imagine. I wasn't trying to make you feel stupid or anything, I should have phrased it a little better. Sorry if I offended you.
