Jester X Unregistered guest | Jim+McMurray I was wondering the same thing. I talked to crutchfield recently and they gave me a number to Samsung and they said the 85 series will be out in August. The Samsung press release said June, but that was for the 63 series which is in stores now. I have my HLP5685w preorderd and it feels like the time is dragging!! lol |
New member Username: TorbrooksPost Number: 2 Registered: Jun-04 | I just saw a GEN3 HLP 50 in at Circuit City. Guess what.........Audio sync problem. I'd never seen it before yesterday. Boy was it distracting. I thought this was the one. I'll wait until some other manufacturers come out with the DLP or LCOS to compare. |
aconcagua Unregistered guest | Jim Mcmurray because the HLP**74's have a slim bezel. Does anyone know when the HLP**74's will be available and where |
Disturbed Unregistered guest | Same here. I want the thin bezel, Tantus is a better model and the 50" is an inch too wide and 1 1/2 inches too high for my entertainment cabinet. MUST HAVE TANTUS 46 HD2+ chip :-) If anyone has any info on the release date of the HLP4674W I would appreciate it. |
Unregistered guest | Need confirmation on what bigday10 said... did you say you were you looking at a HLP5063W model and it had the audio sync problem? Can anyone else confirm this? I use Comcast cable and have a deposit on a HLP4663W at onecall.com - with their strict return policy, I don't want to get burned... Also, on the topic of 1080p, has anyone thought about the fact that the unit is going to have to do some sort of conversion with most material to be backwards compatible? Just a thought... |
confusedkevin Unregistered guest | has ANYONE seen in person the difference in PQ between the sammy 63's and the 74's. i've been reading that the 63's are actually a downgraded technology from the hln's. any info? i'd like a 61", but seems there won't be a 6174w. would anyone "in the know" be able to offer some advice... should i get a 6163, or wait for the 5674? how much of a visible noticeable PQ difference is made going from 1500:1 to 2500:1 (or 3000:1 or whatever)?? and what's the difference between the gen 3 and gen 4 light engines. what other differences are there between the hd3 and hd2+ chips... it seems the main thing i see mentioned is contrast ratio? thanks. |

New member Username: Sybr_guyCharlotte, NC Post Number: 1 Registered: Jul-04 | Been reading for a while, but this is my first post. Tomorrow I will buy the HLP5063. I only have room for up to a 50", so does everyone agree that there is no sense waiting? I cannot fit the 5674 in the space I have (I will build it into the space above my mantle), unless there is a way to remove the speaker at the bottom of the TV. That would be nice ;-) But I am restricted by height--I only have 37". Does everyone agree that the 5063 is probably my best bet right now? I can get it for $3149 locally. |
Disciple Unregistered guest | Damn, the 61" 1080p Sammy is gonna have a 5000:1 contrast ratio... I guess I'll wait for one a dem badboys. |
Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 52 Registered: May-04 | TCT, you must have an entertainment center, right? Those always look nice but do restrict what you can get. Where locally are you getting this tv? Cause thats a hell of a deal, compared to Best Buy/Circuit City |
MrShmoo222 Unregistered guest | I checked out the samsung HLP 4663W and 5063W at the Best Buy store in Geneva, IL over the past weekend. The sales associate I spoke with indicated that the big advantage of the new hlp series over the HLN series is the use of the Bosch motor to spin the the color wheel. He indicated that the new motors are quieter and will last longer. He also indicated that currently contrast ratios greater that 1500:1 are unnecessary to view the content that will be available in the near future. He also indicated that the only difference between the 63 series and the 74 series was the thinner bezel and a beefed up sound system. Can anyone verify any of these facts or was this mis-information? |
New member Username: Sybr_guyCharlotte, NC Post Number: 2 Registered: Jul-04 | Actually, we must have some great competition here in Charlotte, NC, because they are listing the 5063 at BB and CC for the same price . . . $3149. I'm putting it above my fireplace where there was originally an option for a TV indention that I didn't take when the condo was built. Now I'm going to build the TV into that space myself, but I only have 37" of height between the ventless fireplace and the A/C vent above it, so I think I'm going to go for the HLP4663, which will give me 2.5 inches above and below the unit so it's not sitting right on the mantle. Unbelievably, this is available at CC right now for $2879. If only I could CUT OFF the speaker below the screen, since I'll be using my own center speaker, then I could get a bigger TV. That would be a nice suggestion for Samsung--make a display without the speaker! |
Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 53 Registered: May-04 | Speaking of that...if you have a great sound system already, is the Sammy HDTVs the best to go with since I wouldn't be using their speakers anyway |

Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 58 Registered: May-04 | freddog, on standard cable....is the picture pixeled? or fuzzy? |
New member Username: HyperdocPost Number: 1 Registered: Jul-04 | Reply to Mr. Shmoo222. I am not a total expert and not sure exactly how final specs are but I have read the 63 is HD3 chip and 74 is HD2+. The HD2+ has better contrast ratio. The 74 are thin bezel and one significant point is (again only based on specs I have read) the 63 does not have VGA connection. 74 apparently will not ship in 56" version. I am waiting on 5674. If anyone hears ship date or where to buy please post. |
freddog Unregistered guest | Marty- SD picture is not pixeled or fuzzy. It handles SD no worse, and quite probably better, than most RPTV hi-def sets. I would rate it's standard def picture as acceptable. Certainly something that one could live with until all cable and over-the-air swings to digtal. On 480p and higher resolutions, the picture can, at times, appear almost 3D. Haven't seen any rainbow artifacts, however, I have seen some temporal dithering and clay face effects. |
Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 59 Registered: May-04 | freddog - now what exactly do those effects mean? I'm not the best with this tv lingo. Also, what is a rainbow effect? Is it what it sounds like? Jim Adams and Mr Shmoo222 - wow this seems like a tough call, so is it better to pick a better contrast ratio over a newer chip? or vice versa? |
crapppy Unregistered guest | The newer hd3 chip is not a better chip!! It is cheaper to mass produce, So it is a downgrade from the hd2+ chip. Still waiting for these in Canada. |
freddog Unregistered guest | The HD3 is a better chip than the HD2. The HD2+ is better than both of them while the xHD3 is the best of them all. If you opt for a Sammy DLP with the HD2+, be prepared to cough up another grand. They'll be quite more expensive than the HD3 units. The units with the xHD3 will be several thousand more than units with the HD3 or HD2+. You're going to pay a premium to be one of the first to own a 1080p DLP. Marty- here's a link that explains DLP artifacts quite well Since adjusting the contrast, I don't see the clay face effect anymore. Also, I should clarify that the SD picture is not pixeled or fuzzy through the component inputs. The Faroudja deinterlacer does a pretty good job with SD. However, the SD picture is somewhat pixeled and fuzzy through the S-video and analog inputs. |
Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 66 Registered: May-04 | Thanks Freddog! You sure know your stuff. So every DLP tv out there now is 720i, right? and the new ones next year will be 1080p? Also, what is the difference between 1080i and 1080p? When do the HD2+ and xHD3 chips hit the market? |
WillNi Unregistered guest | freddog--How do you plug SD picture through component inputs? Do you use some type of converter? My VCR uses composite(analog) and my cable box uses coaxial(analog). |
freddog Unregistered guest | WillNi- My cable provider (Cox) has a HD set top box, with component video out, that I run to my Sammy's component video in. Cox currently provides 8-10 hi-def channels (depending on what movie channels you pay for). The remaining channels are standard def. Should also mention that many cable providers have a SD digital cable box with componenet video out as well (the digital, in this case, is for compression only to provide more than 100 analog SD channels to subscribers). Marty- Thanks, but that website isn't mine so I can't take credit for it. It does appear that most DLP, LCD and LCoS makers are producing 720p only sets. This is only so they can produce cheaper sets with fewer pixels than the older sets that let you choose 720p or 1080i. There are valid arguments favoring 720p over 1080i, but I still would have preferred the ability to choose for myself. TV makers have decided otherwise. The difference between 1080i an 1080p is dramatic-much like the difference between 480i and 480p. With 1080i, you get 540 of the odd numbered scan lines the first 1/60 sec, of a particular frame, and then the remaining 540 even numbered scan lines are filled in the second 1/60 sec, thus completing the full 1/30 sec, 1080i image. Additionally, every few frames display with the latter half of the current image and the first half of the next image- creating the jagged motion artifacts you see. With 1080p, you get all 1080 scan lines for each 1/60 sec. |

JesterX Unregistered guest | Jim, But even if the contract is up in the fall, the other companies still have to produce the tv and integrate it into their system. then they have to test them, ect, and produce enough to start shipping them. wont it take a while for all that to happen? Sammy wont drop the price until the competition has their tvs on the market. |

I am still confused but I do follow your explaination of 1080i. you just didnt mention 1080p. Everyone - I think I might hold off on a new Sammy DLP tv this fall and wait for my massive tax return next summer. How much better do you think DLP tvs and HDTV will be by then? Also, is it worth the wait? |
New member Username: Harbinger77Nashville, TN Post Number: 3 Registered: Jul-04 | Marty, I'm pretty new to all this technology, but I think I may have an answer for you. This is a paraphrased answer to your question from the "how things work" website. An analog TV signal in the U.S. has 525 scan lines for the image, and each image is refreshed every 30th of a second. Half of the scan lines are painted every sixtieth of a second in what is called an interlaced display. That is what the 'i' means at the end of 1080i. There are 1080 lines scanned, 540 in the first 30th of a second, then 540 in the second 30th of a second. Progressive scanning shows the whole picture, every line in one showing, every sixtieth of a second. Therefore 1080p is going to give you a higher resolution picture. Contrary to what some may say, 720p is better resolution than 1080i. Would all you old pros out there agree? Or am I missing the boat here? |
New member Username: Harbinger77Nashville, TN Post Number: 4 Registered: Jul-04 | I have a question for everyone. My biggest concern with looking at DLP tvs in the showroom has been the low quality of SD broadcasts. All of the DLPs I've looked at have been HD2 or HD3 technology. I understand the new HD2+ and xHD3 chips will be FAR superior. My questions is "how will they be superior". Will the newer chips make SD signals look better or worse. I understand that SD signals are lower quality signals...and garbage in garbage out... but, I still own lots of family vacation VHS tapes, and it may take years for broadcasters to start broadcasting HD signals. I just wonder what is going to be the actual visible difference in the picture quality between HD2+ and xHD3 over what's out now. I also wonder if it will reduce the occassional motion artifacts like rainbow effects and temporal dithering. You guys seem to have a ton of combined knowledge. Has anyone been told what the end result in improved chips is supposed to be? And will the technological difference between the HD2+ and the xHD3 be so vast, that it would justify waiting? |
Bronze Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 79 Registered: May-04 | just to let everyone know, I saw the new Sammy DLP HD3 tvs at both Best Buy and Circuit City. The 50" model was $3499 at BB and $3199 at CC. not too shabby |

Well recently I read about the new models from Optoma coming out later this year wwith the HD2+ chip in it & also a new 8 wheel color segment. If i'm correct, this will be the 1st DLP set to have an 8 wheel segment, as the newer Samsung's sets will have upgraded from 6 wheels (older models) to the 7 wheels. Kind of strange that Samsung wouldn't include an 8 color wheel into their newer models, but Optoma will. Hmmmm.... |

nug29 Unregistered guest | For J. McMurray, I have waited this long I guess I can wait until fall for prices to come crashing down as your source at Sears says. But the question is, is there that much visible difference in the contrast ratios between the HD3 and HD2+? Will the Toshiba's be out by then to cause the price to drop? |
Jzach Unregistered guest | Clay face is loss of contrast, everything looks washed out like a lump of clay. There would be no lines or texture to skin. One can adjust the contrast, brightness, sharpness to add more definition, but there was a limit to the effective of these changes. |

You said that in 12-18 months most of the channels would "have to be" in Hi Def. I've heard several people say that...but thats not what the FCC said. The FCC says that cable companys have to transmit the signal using digital technology. The FCC did not specify that that digital signal has to be High Def... not picking on you. Just wanted to clarify it for you. I've had several sales guys try to close me on an HD television by saying all channels would be HD by 2006, and from what I've found that is not the case. Anyway...enjoy the new tv. |

I guess I'm a sucker for new and better stuff.. My problem with the Sammy DLP is during fast action scenes... Pixel block show up distorting the image. this would give me eye strain and head-aches.... Is this a common problem with all DLP sets...? Should I have kept my Mits. Scott Smetana Unregistered guest | I was sold on getting the HLP5663 until I learned it's HD3 chip is inferior to the HD2+ chips. I do not want the stand of the HLP5685, so what do I get??? What other HD2+ models are there???? I've seen the Mitsubishi HD2+ - great picture but it has its crappy shiny 'anti-glare' screen which would look like crap in my well-lighted room. I can not find out much about the HLP5674 - is there such a thing??? HELP!!! |
Anonymous | You probably can't find much info about the HLP5674 because THERE IS NO SUCH THING!!!You would think common sense would lead you to look at www.samsungusa.com and see their product list. Clearly states the following in the HLP series: HLP5663W HLP5063w HLP4663w and then the HLP5085w (the captain kirk model) which isn't out until later this year with the HD2+ chip, but also with a hefty price tag. $tarting around $6,000. |
Scott Smetana Unregistered guest | Common sense led me samsungusa.com many months ago. It also led me such sites that claim to have the HLP5674W for sale! I also see above someone knows of a 61" Samsung HD2+ coming soon (HLP6197). There's much more to learn than just on websites! http://store.yahoo.com/gigabuyz/hlp5674w.html I haven't called yet, but I guess these sites are wrong. (as well as some in this forum). Do the "tantus" (whatever that means) models - have the HD2+ chips?? Does anyone know when the first xHD3 models will come out?? |
Zz Unregistered guest | I got the HLP5063W a month ago and love it. Small amt of pixelating even on component DVD if you look up close but no rainbow, no audio async and regular digital cable looks totally fine (i use 4:3). I am noticing a small problem though - I run my HD cable box to component 1 in and use the tv's audio out to my receiver. The TV is set to "internal mute." Half the time I turn everything on though I get no sound. I have to switch to another video mode then back to component 1 and then everything is fine. I have tried lots of other things but this is the only way I have found to get it to work. Of course sometimes (about half) the sound works fine from the get go. Anyone notice anything remotely similar? |

Unregistered guest | PLEASE HELP! I NEED AN ANSWER QUICK! After several months of agonizing over whether I should buy the Sony 50" LCD or the Samsung HLP4663 I finally (yesterday) decided on the Samsung. Ultimately, my decision came down to the front-to-back depth. The Samsung is less than 14" deep while the Sony is almost 18" deep and just too big to fit where I need to place it. It was a great relief to know that my agonizing had come to an end. Or had it? After doing some research, I see that the new 46" Tantus models are coming out, with the higher contrast ratio chips. Seems like a no-brainer to wait a few weeks until they're in stock at BB or CC but now there's a new dilemma - the preliminary Samsung product line brochure referenced above says that the Tantus set is 16.1" deep. If this is true it will not work in my house. Would Samsung really INCREASE the depth of a set when the trend is toward thinner televisions? Was this necessary in order to achieve the smaller bezel? Now that the new Tantus models are out can anyone here confirm the true depth of the 46" set? I am renovating my family room and need to frame the opening for the TV, run all the wire, drywall the wall, and paint it before a building inspector comes inside my house in August for another unrelated inspection (I'm not getting a permit for the family room work). Please help! |
Scott Smetana Unregistered guest | Willykea, Nice choice of on the Sammy, I believe they are (a little) better than Sony's LCDs. You're trying to find out what I'm trying to find out! I want to know more about the new HD2+ HLP's - I've heard them called the 'new tantus line' and/or the 74 series. NEITHER of these is listed on Samsung's websites. I'm not talking about the 85 series (neither of us want the stand). Someone help us!!!! If we had more info, maybe we could find the dimensions, release date, and price!! I'd also be willing to wait for a xHD3 if I knew it was out this fall. Please HELP!!! |
New member Username: HyperdocPost Number: 2 Registered: Jul-04 | I'm waiting on 56" Tantus. So any news on the HD2+ would be great. Have seen postings out about a Mitsubishi 52" DLP with HD2+. Is it already out? Does anyone have any good comparison information. I found a brochure and noted it did not have a DVI port but did have the HDMI. I am sure HDMI is emerging and good thing but isn't DVI port a pretty important input for now or next couple of years? I sure hope I don't have to wait until after Football season starts to get the 56" Samsung Tantus. |
Anonymous | Why is there no information anywhere on the 4674/5674 DLP by Samsung?!!? I can't believe that these are coming out in August. Wouldn't Samsung's website have info on these tv's?!!? |

Searching Unregistered guest | After several weeks of watching for these new sets, apparently Samsung only adds them to their website when they are finally released. As an example the 63 series did not show as products until they were available in the stores. Even then Samsung only showed them as each size was released. For instance, the 61" still doesn't show. I agree it is very frustrating to only be able to get information from second hand sources, especially when you are considering a several thousand dollar purchase. |
New member Username: Jim_mcmurrayPost Number: 8 Registered: Jun-04 | Jim and scott, I am also waiting. the sammy 74 is not5 out because it has the HD3 chip in it and is already outdated. the HD2+ ( according to sammy ) is much superior. The Tantus yo refer to is an even newer version that "may" be out by January. |

willykea Unregistered guest | Jim McMurray: I don't understand your last post about the Samsung 74 series. You stated that the "sammy 74 is not out because it has the HD3 chip in it and is already outdated." That doesn't seem to make sense. Wasn't the 74 series the first group of televisions to use the HD3 chip? If they are not out because they use the inferior HD3 chip then was there ever a TV for sale using the HD3 chip? Are you saying that Samsung made a new chip and put it into a bunch of TVs and then didn't release them because by the time they were ready to, the chip was already outdated? Seems like a waste of time and money. Do you believe that the 74 series sets will never make it to the market? |
Huskr84 Unregistered guest | The Sammy 74 series isn't out yet because Samsung is trying to figure out whether to release the 74 series TVs as is with the HD2+ chip (not with the inferior HD2 or HD3 chips), or wait until later this year and add in a CableCard and/or HD Tuner. Regardless, it will ship with the 7-segment color wheel (as will the 5085W and 5685W). Rumor has it that Samsung will make an announcement on the 74's within a week.... |
123456 Unregistered guest | Amazon has 3 sites that apparently have the 46" Tantus, I didn't think they were out yet...can anyone confirm that these are the 7 segment, HD2+ because if they are I am in...thx http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000A2UAH |
Bronze Member Username: JrestSt. Louis, Missouri USA Post Number: 35 Registered: Jun-04 | 123456- This is the HLN series. You want the HLP series and I don't believe they're out yet. I was considering the HLP5063w but having heard last week about the 46" and 56" tantus, I'm sorta waiting...although I'm chomping at the bit to buy one now!!! |
Anonymous | How do you think I feel!!! We do not have any models out in Canada yet. I am waiting for the tantus model because it is a better tv. 7 color wheel thin bezel and it is not deeper than the 63 series. It is only 13 inches deep. Hd2+ chip is a better chip than the hd3. Is it better than xhd3 probably not but by then there will be a xhd4 chip!!! By the tantus model but please bring some to the great white north!!!! |
willykea Unregistered guest | Anonymous, How'd you find out the tantus model is 13" deep? Did you see that online somewhere? |
Anonymous | Yes, I will find the site and post it for you. |
Anonymous | Sorry the hlp5685w is less than 13 inches, hlp4674w is 16.1 and 5674w is 18.2. Must of had a few that night. |
willykea Unregistered guest | Darn! Thanks for getting back to me, though. Guess I'm gonna have to get the 4663. |
Anonymous | I just ordered the HLP4663W thru the Samsung employees/friends/family program for $2300 (tax+shipping included). I hope this is a good TV without any problem. |
An Unregistered guest | Anonymous, What is the 'Samsung employees/friends/family program' cost for the HLP5685W? |
Anonymous | According to Samsung's website, all of the new models have a 7 Segment color wheel include the 63 series. |
Anonymous | An, The website doesn't list the HLP5685W yet, but the 'employees/friends/family" price before tax & shipping for the HLP5663W is $2520. |
Scott Smetana Unregistered guest | Hey all, for what it's worth-- I spoke with a Samsung rep on the phone today, he said the 'New Tantus' line or 74 series (HD2+) says the shipping date in their computers is August+. He said this probably means the end of August or in September. He said they would be announcing the release date by the end of July. Guess I'm going to have to pass on the 63 series and do a little waiting. Bummer. Nice price on the HLP5663 above - wow! Wish i had a family member at Samsung!! I'm betting the HLP5674 will cost me $4600. |
estam Unregistered guest | does anyone know if the 74 series will be coming out in the 61"? |
estam Unregistered guest | also what are peoples advice when it comes to buying the extended warrantee? buy or don't buy warrantee? |
Anonymous | No, 61 inch model will come out with the new xhd3 chip. Extended warranty never hurts. |
Larika1 Unregistered guest | Can you give me a number to call for the Friends, fam discount program? I am in a related industry and maybe they might honor a discount for me. |
Larika1 Unregistered guest | In fact I can trade for 75% off on sporting goods/fashion products in my industry, and return the favor if you can somehow hook me up with the samsung friends and family. Let me know and we can maybe discuss details by email. THanks |
AlexG Unregistered guest | Scott If the HLP5674W costs $4600, then it is definitly time to consider buying something else. With that kind of price, plasmas would come into the picture. I am hoping competition would drive the Samsung HLP5674 down under $4000. Anyway, I read somewhere that it now could be early September when this model comes out. I hope they know not to wait until after the football season starts! Someone please let me know when you hear something about the HLP5674W. |

Scott Smetana Unregistered guest | Thanks Alex, I'd like to spend under 4K, but I also want comfort knowing I've got the best TV for the buck. I've gone back and forth about just getting the HLP5663 (HD3). I actually haven't seen Samsung's HD2+ yet (85 series) to see if they are truly better than the HD3's. Interesting thought about Plasma - However, I'm in Colorado Springs and have heard the altitude screws them up. Besides, I'd want the best and that would probably cost me way more than $5K for a 50-60" screen. |
Mike12345 Unregistered guest | Larika1, Sorry there is no phone number. You have to know someone who works at Samsung and have an account to access the employee order site. I myself is not an employee, but a friend of an employee. Just talk to all your associates and you might find one who work for Samsung. Good Luck. Mike |
Larika1 Unregistered guest | Thanks Mike. I think I am going to purchase the HLP5063W. Does any one have a reason for me on why I should wait on that? Also if I do buy, I am thinking of using a site like pricegrabber.com that lists out the available retailers and their prices. The cheapest I found for this model was about $2790. Good idea or not? |
Silver Member Username: MartiniPost Number: 102 Registered: May-04 | Larika, Might wanna wait for the HD2+ or the next HD3 chip. I'm gonna wait until I see more and better models out there. I'm afraid of the SD signal not being great and I want more HD channels available. I'm also nervous about video motion problems that I have heard happening. But thats all just what I'm hearing, don't listen to me |
Bronze Member Username: EsjPost Number: 12 Registered: Jul-04 | to anyone waiting on the 5685 , i have the 5663 and when there is a hd program on i am glued to my chair, discovery channel has become one of my favorite channels, those of you who own a sammy dlp with a dvi connect you know what i mean , how much better could the 5685 be , what i got is near perfection in my mind.who needs to pay another 500.00 bucks |
Jester X Unregistered guest | ej, the reason i am waiting for the 5685 is because of the new chip and the pedastal stand. i dont think there is a better looking tv out there than the 85w series. i have seen the 63 series and the picture does look amazing, but everything can always be improved on. so where i would spend a couple hundred bucks on a good stand for the 63 series, why not spend 500 total and get the pedastal stand and the newer chip. |
estam Unregistered guest | how much do we think the 5685 is gonna go for? |
New member Username: HyperdocPost Number: 3 Registered: Jul-04 | I have made a couple of posts stating my desire to get more information on 5674 (shipping date and info in general). The 5674 is still my plan based on everything I have read. Just hope it comes soon. I wanted to let everyone know I saw a HLN 50" in action this last week. It was hooked up to a Samsung HD Receiver actually built for satellite system. Facts were that he actually had no satellite input and was just using the receiver for cable input and HD antennae input. The HD receiver output all the broadcast channels in both SD format and digital or HD format. This person did not have digital cable. So what I saw: Great (incredible pictures) when looking at the digital / HD version of broadcast channels. Keep in mind these were coming in from desktop HD antennae in the house. Some of the broadcast programs are HD Wide format and some are just digital and still in 4:3 format. Either case the piture was incredible. Terrible picture for broadcast channels comming over that same antennae but for the SD version of channel. Think of rabbit ears type reception. This was a house about 25-30 miles out of Houston so obviously the broadcast channels were not coming in well. For the SD cable input channels the picture was okay. I would say on par with normal TV or maybe sligtly worse. I saw no rainbows all night. I notice a slight sound delay but only on one show for just a little bit. I understand (did not see) that digital cable or digital satellite will look good (better that normal TV) if that is in use. This person highly recommends the Samsung HD Satellite receiver because it makes things so easy and converts everthing over to the DVI output / input to TV. That could leave you with more open slots in TV input side. It also could eliminate picture in picture. Question for those who have managed this post this far: I thought I understood the Samsung TV to indicate that PIP only worked for inputs other than DVI. Does that mean you cannot do PIP if using DVI input viewing or was it just saying that was the only input and no others available? |
Larika1 Unregistered guest | Does anybody know when the xhd3 or the hd2+ chip will be implemented to the 50" DLP? |
AlexG Unregistered guest | Scott, maybe not the 50 or 60" plasma but a 42" for sure at that $4000 - $4600 price. It just seems so expensive for a tv. I am still wondering how long it will be for the HLP5674W to come out. Hope it will be worth it. I am sure it will be great, but maybe not for the price. |
mikej Unregistered guest | the hd2+ is in the hlp5085 now and is anvailable |
Anonymous | Any chance Sammy will make a hd2+ 50" without the integrated stand? |
