I just purchased a Yamaha RX-V3300 receiver. It's a 6.1 channel receiver, but it also has provisions for two extra front effect speakers that are mounted above and to the outside of the main speakers. I currently plan on just connecting the six speakers plus the subwoofer unless someone tells me that they know first hand that the two front effect speakers make a difference. It seems like overkill to me.
