I am ready to upgrade my existing factory installation. What are some good systems for listening to Top 40. Thanks!

LOL that's about as open-ended as it gets. Two questions:
1. Which year Xterra (just in case it matters), and does it have a "premium"/upgraded system?

2. What's your honest-to-god-I'll-be-comfortable budget?

It is a 2000 4x4 dealer custom. I do use it as a truck..., i.e. weekly visits to Lowes or Home Depot so do not want to give up any cargo area. I also go off-road every chance available. I am not really sure if it is Nissan's premium package... it does sound so, but it does have components up front (6 speakers total). For as funds, I am ready to spend between $1000-1500 initially more depending if I can get good value and performance. I had been looking at the Infinity Perfect 6.1 for the front but I don,t have a clue for what to do about the very weak rear panel speakers. I hope to later replace the Radio/CD combo with an in dash entertainment/navigation unit in the near future for those nights when I am out camping.

Thanks for your help, Will

Okay, just for inventory for everyone else:
* FRONT: 6.5"x3", bottom of door; weird square grille offset from center
* REAR: 6x9"x3", bottom of cargo area walls; lots of space for glassing on the wall
* DECK: double-din

Okay, Will, you've got pretty good factory mounts, aside from the weird grille on the front speakers.

Here's a good example of what someone else did:

Granted, there's a LOT of customizing work in there, but he did solve the rear problem quite well (5" in the doors). The single 10" DVC sub and the amp in the back corners are good uses of space without giving up the cargo area.

For very good 2-ways up front (Focal or DynAudio), some deadening, the sub, and two decent amps, you're looking at about $1000 or so.

I would suggest that you do the fronts yourself, mounting the amp for them under the passenger seat, then get prices on having a pro do the rear glassing/install.

I don't know how much longer this is going to last, but Elemental Designs (www.edesignaudio.com) is having a preorder sale for their new equipment (60% off). Supposed to ship in two weeks, so it's not a huge amount of time to wait for a really good deal. You can get a full setup (Combo #4) for $550, then have a pro install it all.
