After 4 or 5 years the stock speakers are giving in, bass failing and just sounding horrible. I'm looking to buy new speakers, and probably a headset as well, because at the moment I use the cigarette lighter + iPod combo to get my music. Any recommendations? Cheers |

If it is inbetween 1987-1989, you will be looking for 5-1/4" and 6-1/2" Speakers. Below are some suggestions on some 4" Speakers: Alpine SPS-400: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11569_Alpine-SPS-400.html Infinity Kappa 42.9I: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13961_Infinity-Kappa-42.9I.html JL Audio C2-400x: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17348_JL-Audio-C2-400x.html Kenwood KFC-1093PS: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22928_Kenwood-KFC-1093PS.html Kicker KS400: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11496_Kicker-KS400.html Pioneer TS-D1002R: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22428_Pioneer-TS-D1002R.html Rainbow KX 100: http://cgi.ebay.com/KX-100-RAINBOW-KX-100-INSTALLER-4-COAXIAL-SPEAKERS-/11057321 0899?pt=Car_Speakers&hash=item19bead4d13 Below are some suggestions on 5-1/4" Speakers: Alpine SPR-50: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_34371_Alpine-SPR-50.html Focal 130 CA1: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11728_Focal-130-CA1.html Image Dynamics CTX5: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22333_Image-Dynamics-CTX5.html Infinity Kappa 52.9I: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13962_Infinity-Kappa-52.9I.html JL Audio C2-525x: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17150_JL-Audio-C2-525x.html Kicker KS525: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_31831_Kicker-KS525.html Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X133: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22941_Kenwood-eXcelon-KFC-X133.html Pioneer TS-D1302R: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22429_Pioneer-TS-D1302R.html Rainbow KX 130: http://cgi.ebay.com/RAINBOW-KX-130-NEW-2-WAY-5-25-COAXIL-SPEAKER-SET-CLEAN-/1105 73206696?pt=Car_Speakers&hash=item19bead3ca8 Here are some suggestions for 6-1/2" Speakers: Alpine SPR-60: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_34370_Alpine-SPR-60.html Focal 165 CA1: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7756_Focal-165-CA1.html Image Dynamics CTX65: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22335_Image-Dynamics-CTX65.html Infinity Kappa 63.9i: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13447_Infinity-Kappa-63.9i.html JL Audio C2-600x: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17350_JL-Audio-C2-600x.html Kenwood KFC-1662S: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17279_Kenwood-KFC-1662S.html Kicker KS60: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_31832_Kicker-KS60.html Pioneer TS-D1602R: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11269_Pioneer-TS-D1602R.html Rainbow SLX 265: http://cgi.ebay.com/SLX-265-RAINBOW-6-5-2-WAY-COMPONENT-SPEAKERS-NEW-CLEAN-/1206 03842562?pt=Car_Speakers&hash=item1c148c9802 Have Fun! |

Gold Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 1017 Registered: Jun-06 | 1996!? That year has 6-3/4" Speakers all the way around, meaning the only thing I suggested you could look into are the 6-1/2" Speakers. Most of them should come with mounts to fit the 6-3/4" slot. If you want me to suggest more, I will. |
New member Username: SpykerwolfPost Number: 3 Registered: Jun-11 | Hey man, thanks for the replies. I'm looking at Pioneer and Sony atm, but also JVC. 6" speakers would do right? Lets say I buy 4 6" speakers, how do the amp and subwoofers work etc? Can you give me a rundown? Cheers |
Gold Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 1040 Registered: Jun-06 | In all honesty, you can fit a few different Speaker Sizes in a 6-3/4" location. I would look into either 5-1/4", 6", 6-1/2" or 6-3/4" Speaker sizes. Obviously, anything below 6-3/4" would require a mount to fit correctly in a 6-3/4" slot. Also, don't look into Sony and JVC for speakers or in general, anything for Car Audio. They just simply are not worth buying. Pioneer on the other hand, is a great spot to start for Speakers. They are a fair price, and have decent sound. Some other brands you can look into would be Alpine, Kenwood, Kicker, Infinity and JL Audio. Of course there are much better speakers out there, but if your working on a low budget, these are your best options to start with. In my opinion, if your looking to purchase entry level Speakers, then simply running them off of your Deck should be plenty enough. However, if you are looking to install an amplifier on them for some extra kick, then you would need to look into a 4-Channel Amplifier. A good example would be the Kicker IX500.4: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_21903_Kicker-IX500.4-10IX500.4.html This amplifier put's out a clean 75 Watts RMS at 4Ohms to each Speaker, which is more than enough for most of the Speakers I posted above. To install this amplifier, you would need a Power Cable, Negative Cable, REM & RCA Cables, and enough Speaker Wire to reach all 4 Speakers. To make things simple, you can purchase an Amplifier Wiring Kit like the one below: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3939_Kicker-CK44.html As you can see on the Amplifier above, there is a total of 4-Channels. Each channel would be used for one Speaker, so you would need to run wires from the amplifier to each Speaker in your vehicle. This can be a very big job especially if you do not know the way around your vehicle. As far as installing an Amplifier to a Subwoofer, it pretty much follows the same guidlines as above, except you would be looking for a Mono-Block Amplifier (1-Channel). You would need to get an Amplifier Wiring Kit to install the Amplifier, and then you would wire the subwoofer(s) to the 1-Channel on the amplifier. In order for me to give you a more specific detail on how to wire up a Subwoofer to an Amplifier, I will need to know what Amplifier and/or Subwoofer you would be interested in using, since not all Subwoofers are wired the same way. |

Gold Member Username: KaerfplSpencerport, NY USA Post Number: 1043 Registered: Jun-06 | John? Who's John? lol. Anyway as for your question, Sony all around is just no good, however I am noticing that they are starting to progress and become a little better. Still wouldn't buy em' though. As far as JVC goes, that is a little different. Lower end JVC Decks are just pathetic, but their higher end Decks are great. Here is an example of a good JVC Deck: JVC KD-AVX77: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17254_JVC-KD-AVX77.html A little pricey, but worth the money if you are looking for a touch screen single DIN Deck. |
