I have four boston FX5 5.5" speakers. I took the back two out because I read on these forums that it messes up the soundstage. Each of these speakers is about 60 watts rms. I have a very cheap amp that is 60 watts x 1 @ 2 ohm. I was wondering if I could run my amp to one speaker, and then bridge my head unit into the other so it could get about 60 watts. I have pioneer head unit 50x4 max, rms is probably low 20s.
Is a head unit bridgeable? Im trying to save some money, but if I need to I will buy a kicker kx150.4.
Also, will two Cerwin Vega Vmaxs(300w rms) drown out the sound from the two 60w 5.5", making the bass way too loud? Or should I put all four of my speakers in?
If the amp is 60 watts at 2 ohm, then it'll be in the neighborhood of 30 watts at 4 ohms, so the speaker will only get 30 watts RMS. You can NEVER bridge a head unit, don't try this. That Pioneer probably doesn't even put out low 20s, more in the region of 11-15 RMS. You're best off buying the Kicker amp out of those options, but I'd find a 2 channel amp that put out 60W RMSx2 @ 4 ohms, like a Kicker kx150.2. Those Cerwin Vegas could drown out the speakers, but it depends on the speakers themselves, your sub box, equalization, and the car. I wouldn't put the rear speakers back in place, they won't help the sound quality any more than without them or the SPL for that matter, and they'll draw from the front soundstage.
