Will only be available from your Main V W Dealer who will look it up on the V W database.(which is not commercially available ) ......or by using a Radio Decoding Service (who will connect your radio to a laptop to electronically read the code memory chip inside your radio)

I am the third owner of a 1997 Mercedes C230. This car is original as built, no aftermarket add ons. I just put a new battery into the car and it never crossed my mind that the radio would need a code entered to reactivate it. The car VIN is WDBHA23E6VF499439. I cannot access any identification numbers on the stereo unit because I do not have the special tools to release the unit from the dash. Is it possible to obtain the code for the stereo with just the auto VIN number? Thank you!

the only CLARION code available for free (using a serial number ) from anywhere on the Internet is if your radio also has a BARCODE SERIAL NUMBER beginning with C 7000000 + + + + on a label somewhere on the metal casing.
If not then it will only be available from your Main Dealer or a Decoding Service or your local Car Radio / Audio Store who will connect a laptop to read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM) inside your radio

note the radio does not lockout after a wrong code entry it only doubles the time to wait before the next retry...if a wrong code is entered it will display error then after the delay should display "0000")
