I've got a buddy who is looking to put a system into his 2002 Ford Taurus. He doesn't have a ton of money to throw into it, so I'm looking for set ups that will do well, but not cost a lot. Does anyone have experience with Ford Taurus'? I'm thinking displacement is going to be his friend here. He won't be able to run but so much power on a stock electrical so a lot of planning is going to need to go into the sub and enclosure for optimal output. He's 19 and listens to a lot of rap, hip-hop, etc so he is going to want something that simply slams rediculous. I'm thinking either going sub up, port back, since he has a trunk car, or maybe walling off behind his rear seats. I'm guessing for price and performance a single 15 may be the way to go. He hasn't given me a budget as of yet, but if I had to guess, I'd say $1000 max. I'm just trying to get some ideas together for him. Thanks in advance.

I sent him a message on Facebook with my first idea and am waiting on his feedback. I was thinking of doing a single hdc3 15" on an aq1200d. I told him if he could, two 12s would be a better option with the more displacement. Are the hdc3's strictly meant to be tuned higher or can they perform well in lower tuned enclosures?

I have a 1995 ford taurus gl from testing with a single 12 image dynamics idq v2 12 sealed with a sq sub it does well in the 40 to 44 hz range and a fs of 20 hz im not sure how much different a 2002 will be but sealed sub up with the sub in the rear middle is 2 db louder than sealed pointing to the rear middle is....i hit 127 db on 350 watts at 40-44 hz sealed up on the dash....db's die off pretty good around 51 hz but do well from 35 hz and up.....a box ported to 32 hz should do me well and get me into the 55 hz range and add 3 db...which is what im going to do.....my sugggestion keep it at one GOOD sub........hdc's do well tuned as low as 35 hz.....one 12 is what i would do to keep it loud and the acoustic response predictable to what id expect.....also my back deck jumps a litttle at 127 db sealed and the dome light resonates at 40 hz and the stock alt was i believe 110 amps.....a 240 amp ran me like 330 shipped

One thing I do know about that car, if it has electronic climate control you can forget about an aftermarket HU... that is one of the few cars there is NO kit for.

I looked up the BL subs and see they offer 3" and 4" voice coils now. What is the difference between running a 3" vs. a 4" voice coil?

SKD- i'm not exactly sure how much those clamps are. That is my dad's shop. He's a carpenter and basicly he's got a hella ton of money wrapped up in tools and i am lucky enough to get to used them. I would take a bit of a guess and say about $50 for the C-clamps and around $30 for the slider style. The C-clamps are great for the double thickness MDF cuz they can put so much pressure on the wood, but you have to be careful because they can easily dent the MDF.

generally speaking a larger voice coil will be able to handle more power.
there are always exceptions based on the makeup of the coil and the subwoofer though

in this case, the bl with the 4" vc will be able to take more power than the bl with the 3" vc
