My son managed to order PPV movies on 4 out of 5 TVs in the house. We have DTV and I have already put the lock outs on the boxes and made a second password so nothing can be ordered by phone. We do not have the phone lines hooked up to the boxes so when we go to turn in the boxes/upgrade them, we are going to be hit with hundreds of dollars in fees.
They have been on there for a few years now and I know FIOs is coming to the area finally. DTV won't give any offers because they suck...once you are a customer, you get NOTHING...
So, is there anyway to get rid of the purchases before turning in the boxes? I also want them off the TV lists as they still show up in the history after all of this time.
Please help. No, they are not mine and yes, they are the ones that cost $10+ each!
They do not bill you with Direct TV if you don't have the phone line connected to the box. Now, if you want to order, you have to place a phone call if you are not connected. A few years ago, you could order with the remote and Direct TV would let you watch the PPV, but not bill you. I found this out when we upgraded to the HD DVR and turned in the old box. I got a huge bill for just the one TV with all of these movies listed from a long time ago. They said they stored it on the card and when the box/card was turned in they read the card and charged me.
I didn't even know they were there. That's when I found the other TV's all had PPV movies listed in the purchase history. We have not been billed because DTV doesn't know they are on the card yet. They want you to hook up a phone line so now they charge an access fee to call in a PPV movie request. We don't have any lines near the TVs so we never hooked them up.
The history shows all of these movies out there in the purchase history so that if anyone where to look on the TV, they could see these movies were rented years go. I guess because we have not paid for them, they still show on the history. I want to be able to delete this as well.
Yes, I am trying to avoid paying for these movies. I had put a zero dollar order allowance on the options for PPV movies, but apparently that doesn't work at all because it allowed all of them to be ordered. So, in light of that fact, I do not think I should have to pay. I'm sure DTV does not care what I believe I should have to pay for, so instead of dealing with a fight and an enormous bill, I'd like to get them off the cards/boxes if possible so they never see the movies to bill me.
Throw away the cards when ya turn in the receivers..no biggie..the purchases are stored there..and them cards are NOT accountable, no matter what DTV tries telling ya..
don't worry about past history, its not an issue, if no cards..and no phones..
BTW...if ya had them receivers a few years ago, there yours, and do whatever ya want with them!...why ya think so many are at tag sales and flea markets?.....DTV likes to say they're theirs and all are leased with everything on yer account, but thats not true!..New ones are leased now, the past couple years, but before that U owned em, not leased em!..I even have a few that I actually paid cash for from DTV and from Best Buy etc, and DTV tried telling me that they are "leased" to me...so screw them, their records are a mess, and don't worry about em...I blew off my account with no problems and opened another one later...
Thanks to everyone. I looked up old posts and realized I was reading 2004 ones so I thought I'd better ask.
I like the chop the card solution. Yes, we pay "leased" receiver fees, but we got DTV in 2007 or maybe even before that. And, I actually pay for all of the TVs we have--yes, I'm a sucker I see from what I read in the posts!
BTW...them old receivers, U don't even need to turn in, if U own em..they were yours to keep and own under the initial 2 yr contracts, up until the newer contracts a couple years ago..
LMAO..greg...these clowns here still got ya banned..lmao...yer a trip dude,...too funny...I see the date under yer new nick, so figured ya are...lmao ...U are persistent, thats cool...I like that.... and U keep plymutt and NN in check using them aliases and them working for the man here...
We see Greg Raf tripsing around on his toy bikes. HE THINKS that he is getting somewhere, but he is gewtting nowhere.
ngh: If i were in your position which I am not, I would remove the cards and throw them away. Then I would flog the receivers on the open market and get whatever I could for them. $20 per receiver is a good price if you can get that.
Getting a new account with DTV (if that is waht you want) would not be a problem, I would suggest you go and get an account with Dish, for a year and let DTV woo you with offers. It is the same with Credit Card companies, ISPs and now even with Voip providers. You leave one and after a short time you get offers to come back for a song.
By the way, Oh I recently started to say it in LK slang, BTW, LK is an old vetran here, whose, ability to help is abysmally low; ability to understand is below average, knowledge is just an average,
