I am looking at the
Pioneer DEH-P6200BT
or maybe the
Pioneer DEH-P4200UB
Both seem decent and have features I want and in my price range.

What do you guys think and also what would you offer up as other options?

I like the blue glow of the DEH-P4200UB i think it looks good...

Thanks!

Those are great head units.

Aside from appearance, the only discernible difference between those two, really, is that the 6200BT has bluetooth. If you want to save some money and don't mind not having bluetooth, the 4200UB would be a good choice. Considering you like its appearance better as well, it seems like the logical head unit to get.

Good job looking at head units and narrowing it down to the ones you like and THEN asking

I appreciate it and I understand that a lot of people have NO clue what they want and want the world but want to spend 50$
That being said are there any issues or flaws I should look for with the DEH-P4200UB? Also I wont be buying for a while as I may be getting a different car and giving my gf my car, so if anyone has any other thoughts or a better HU for around the same price range, please feel free to let me know. If not DEH-P4200UB will probably be the one i get.

One of the nice things about the 4200UB (and 6200BT) is that it has a pass-through face (i.e. it's not motorized and doesn't have the chance for the ribbon cable to wear down). It also means less mechanical mechanisms can fail since it doesn't have a motor and a multitude of complex gearing. Some of the longest-lasting head units are the pass through and fold-down face head units.

Yea, my friends have had issues in the past. But they "HAD TO HAVE" a motorize faceplate... This will be a change for me, in the past i have run eclipse and thats about it, i also had a clarion unit and that wasn't bad either. However i recently heard a little bit older pioneer and I was surprised how clean and nice it sounded and the simple eq on it was easy to use had a pleasant result. It wasn't like the speakers were anything expensive either and they were just running off the HU no amp and still got plenty loud. I was quite surprised how good it sounded. I am a tough person to please with sound too as I have one of those ears that picks out the little things. Makes me good running a sound board but ticks the musicians off when i tell them their flaws when they are off or miss a note or something...

The next thing i need to do is find what speakers i am going to run and which amp(amp should be easy), i am thinking 3way speakers as I will be hard pressed to find those in a 6.5(if i end up keeping my car) though i would love to have 4 ways, they really made a difference in my old ride...

If you have any thoughts please feel free to let me know, just keep in mind i like it loud and clean. and will want subs or a sub, not sure which at some point. I am completely dreading the day i have to rip my car apart to dynamat it, my saab was easy to do this subaru... meh

In anycase thanks again!

Yeah, Eclipse is great. Back when I registered here around five years ago, Eclipse decks were all the rage. I wonder what happened to that. Clarion certainly isn't bad either.

In fact, I moved from the top-of-the-line Clarion DXZ945MP (excluding the fairly featureless, but high sound quality Clarion DRX9255) to a Pioneer DEH-P860MP (which sells for 200-300 less) and was stunned by how many more options it had, as well as the sound quality difference. Since then, I've been a die-hard Pioneer fan and run a Pioneer DEH-P7800MP now. Ironically, I just recently replaced the ribbon cable in it. At least I have the peace of mind that it will last another 2-3 years.

What is your budget for the amp and speakers? Pioneer has some decent speakers, as well as Infinity if you're on a bit of a budget (inifinity has great 3 ways). Focal and Dynaudio are my personal favorites for 3 ways (especially Dynaudio), but that might be a bit expensive. CDT might also be a good option. It's more difficult to suggest speaker brands since they vary widely, but in general, I'm a fan of Infinity Kappa (loud and clean--though I'm not sure how you feel about the metal tweeters some of them use, which sound great with instrumentals, rock, classical e.g. guitars and strings, but not so great with electronica, rap, and pop).

Hah, you had 4 ways? Were they coaxial? I don't think I've seen a 4 way speaker system made up of individual components. In any case, if you have at least a woofer and a tweeter, it's a good deal. And 3 way is my ideal, typically.

Yeah, dynamat can be a pain, especially with getting the floor off the car, if you're that ambitious. But it's a good deal when finished.

Interestingly, I'm progressively moving away from the big boomy subs to ones that are more accurate/smaller. Must be getting older, heh. It saves money on wiring and amps as well. Plus with how sub technology has progressed, it isn't impossible to get a nice snare kick or other low frequency from dual 8" subs and a high quality amp.

budget... meh not sure yet... however i wont be going dirt floor poor... really all is going to come down to what car i end up with in the end. i want quality and the ability to be somewhat loud so i know i will need to pay it is really going to come down to what deals i can find and if i feel the price is worth the sound in the end... i listen to a ton of different music including rap.. from country to alternative to hardcore to punk to classical, so i need a well rounded speaker set up.

I will probably be going with a single 12 for the sub set up or maybe 2 10s who knows... like i said sound quality and still loud, i also like the ability to get low for the rap/hip-hop... so that means ill be spending a bit more on the sub as well knowing that golden rule of pick 2... quality, loudness, cheap
