I am ready to get some subs for my truck and am going to use a pre-made box. 0.7cu.ft. per side with 6.5" mounting depth. Here is a link to the box. http://subthump.com/Chevrolet-GMC-Sub-Boxes/Silverado-Sierra-Extended-Cab/99-06- GM-Extended-Cab-Ultra-Deep-Single-1012-Downfire-Box.html

I am trying to get the best subs for under $150ea which is limiting me. I love SQ, but I also love me some SPL. I want both and don't think it is possible on this budget. I have an old school Lanzar 600, about 900 watts or I can use old school Lanzar 240, about 240 watts to the subs. I know everyone is into the high wattage these days, but I used to hit about 125db with the LZ240 alone. The 600 will do anything I ask of it. if I need to do something different on the amp I can, maybe a JL 500/1 or 1000/1.

Since nobody in my area has anything I can listen to, I am looking for first hand knowledge of a sub in small enclosure like this one.

I will be running Morel components in the front of the truck and Morel 4" in the rear for fill.

I listen to metal, rock, rap, jazz, classical, etc... so my tastes are varied.

I can go with one 12" instead but I really want more output, but I may be able to get that with a better sub for around $300. The 12" box is .92cu.ft with a 7" mounting depth.

I just don't know as subs have changed so much in the 10+ years I have been away from car audio.

What I am looking at so far are these subs.
RLi-10
JBL GT 1002 or 1202D - can't find a box recomendation from JBL.
Alpine SWR 10 or 12
Polk Audio MM10 or MM12

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am open to any suggestions.

the subs u named off.... well... dont buy them. haha
if u want any spl at all u need to get a different box other than what u posted. can u make a box on ur own? or u have have bassman make u a box... unless u live close to me i think he is cheapest.
i would say look at audioque or FIaudio things.
and don't waste ur money on anything from JL...

if u say that u need or want a small sealed box like that i would say look at the fiaudio SSD 12. it will be a lot better than the other things u named... then u can save up a little money and get an aq1200 and run it at 2 ohms. then buy a 2nd SSD...

for just that lower power .. if u do not want to upgrade later. to something big

i would say the Phoenix Gold RSD12 really is the best thing u can get for ur money. i have seen them online for about 75 bucks.. to me the sounds just as good as a JL W6 or really close to it. BUT it has more output than the W6 so u will get a little more spl... i would actually rather have the RSD12 over a W6 for my ride... . .. and its 1/4 the price. hahha. if u get the RSD12 u will be happy with it

i have heard wonderful things about the rl-i's and can personally attest to the quality of ss products. from what you listed that is the way i would go. if you are seeking more output from from those premade boxes you would most definitely be better off with two 10's instead of a single 12.
hope you find what you are looking for

All of those subs are ok except maybe the polk i'd avoid.

And while that downfire box will work, a front firing box would be better if one is available.

I am looking at the Fi SSD12 also but it recommends about 1cu.ft. I could go with the Fi X 12 but I don't know much about those.

Fi Q works very well in small sealed boxes

You think it will do well in the box I linked. Looks like it may be a little small but I can add some polyfill to it.

edit:
Here is recommended box size for the Fi Q 12"
Q 12 -- We recommend using a sealed box in the neighborhood of .8-1.5 cubic feet of volume.

I can get that but just barely. Even with Poly.

On the RSD's, I am thinking they are going to be a little on the boomy side. I have never been a PG fan, although the old schools amps were killer. I just worry about it sounding like a cheap sub.

I got a hold of Scott at Fi Audio and he said the Fi SSD 12" will work in that enclosure. Done. It is a great looking sub and I like the idea of being made to order.

Cool, can't go wrong with that. If your lanzar is old enough to where they used to make decent amplifiers, and actually does 600w then thats perfect.

I pulled out the paper work on my Lanzar Brute Force 600 tonight. 950 watts mono into 2 ohms with 0.015% distortion at rated power. Built in 1989. Think it can handle it? :-)

1989 holy crap man. I was 2yrs old haha. Post some pics of that amp if you can. That thing had to have cost a small fortune in 89 for a 950w amp

I will try to post some after I get home from work today. I even have the original paperwork and box for it. Yeah, it would have been a fortune. I couldn't afford it then so I competed in the 0-250 class for a while and then moved up to 251-500. That was all I could afford to do right out of/in high school. I imagine it was quite a bit more than a dollar a watt at the time though, since my LZ240 cost around $500 if I remember correctly.

Lanzar 600 with the original box and literature for the whole line of speakers and amps at the time. It wants me to re-size and I don't want to do all of them so here is a link to the folder of pics and one of the amp. Go to the link and look at the good pics. Resizing ruined this one.

your going ina silverado uh??? my mom has an 03 silverado ext cab and well pretty much i know the space...

well first your stock on electrical system so your limited to less than 700 rms or around it... and you have extremely good components if you do really have the morel...

you want sq uh?????????

thats great i love sq....

personally i will suggest this amp
http://cgi.ebay.com/PHOENIX-GOLD-X600-1-CLASS-D-AMP-1200-WATT-MAX-AMPLIFIER-/130 413404259?pt=Car_Amplifiers

and as far for the subs... you do really need some lightweight cone and good efficient subs..
personally i will go with these

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-PHOENIX-GOLD-RSdC124-12-2400-WATT-CAR-SUB-WOOFERS-/ 290464938206?pt=Car_Subwoofers_Enclosures

personally i will chose this ones than any of the ones u mentioned..

i dont know why the stupid M.S has a problem with the polk momo i think he has never heard of them..
yes they have great sq quality since they were designed to be used in a sq enviroment within small spaces...

whoever they are alil bit inefficient so they need some power to really shine but their not too loud...

these pgs will keep up and even outperform the momo in sq and ofcorse they will get more louder while using less power..

IMHO you wont be dissapointed with the choices i mentioned and overall youll be fine and have a great daily driving system that will be so enjoyable while riding....
