Hey guys I'm looking into upgrading the stock speakers in my TSX. I don't want to get an amp or sub so something pretty simple I guess. I've been looking at some JL TR690-TXi and Alpine Type S speakers.

Which one would be better? I'm looking for something that can handle a lot of bass well at higher volume levels too.

If you have any other suggestions please tell me!

I had some Alpine Type S 6x9's (SPS-690A) in the back of my 4dr integra. Ran an amp(MRV-F450) and it was pretty loud. Lasted me a few weeks until I realized the speakers were rubbing against my speaker cover things at the time and the speakers were getting worn out really bad. Then today my right speaker was getting deteriorated and it blew. Overall even though my amp is whack, the 6x9's were pretty loud and clear. I have a Pioneer DEH-P7900BT. I plan on getting the JL's you mentioned though for $115.

either way you go, i suggest you get a 4 channel amp. something with about 50w rms per channel. and replace your front speakers with a nice set of components as well. this will give you the sound your looking for without needing a subwoofer.

at least i think...lol

The speakers in the car arn't going to produce much bass, they're not meant to. The best you may get is going to be decent mid-bass and good highs. Anything below 50 Hz you're going to need a sub to get any real response. I would go with the JL speakers but really, either are going to sound the same running on a stock HU with no amp.
