I have a 2009 kia rio that I would like to put a double din video deck in, and I'm looking for other people opinions.

The two decks i'm considering right now are:
The Pioneer AVH-P4200dvd
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVH-P4200DVD-Double-DIN-Multimedia-Receiver/dp/B0038BM7F4

Sony XAV-70BT
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-XAV-70BT-Touchscreen-Receiver-Bluetooth/B0032FOJQG

I like the look/feel of the pioneer a lot more plus I hear a lot more suggestions for pioneer, but the deck is lacking bluetooth, and it would cost $200 to add it...which pushes the deck past my budget.

The sony deck has similar features to the pioneer, but has bluetooth included. I'm not the biggest fan of sony stuff though, and the majority of people I talk to say things like "sony decks are garbage" etc... but don't provide and examples or backup what they're saying at all.}

Of the two, Pioneer.
I wouldn't own a Sony if it was given to me free of charge.

Is there a specific reason why?

You should have a listen to both first... I guess these days Sony is looking for the guy who just want to get rid of the stock system and it will be good for that.

reliability
build quality
availability of parts for repair (even to authorized repair centers)

with head units it's really about features, and build quality (and aesthetics) since you can't really hear a difference between DACs on a CD player the way you used to be able to tell tape decks apart by their heads.

Yeah, Glass is right. Sony car audio is unreliable because it is just so poorly built. You can tell just by using one of the head units. It's a really light plastic feeling that just sickens me. They do look good, I'll give them that. Though, I never thought about availability of parts! I can't believe I never thought about that despite repairing quite a few of them. I've gotta admit Pioneer is one of the best about parts availability (in my opinion, of course).

The Pioneer you have up there is bluetooth ready, so you can purchase an adapter to get bluetooth on it (the adapter is on ebay for as little as $75+shipping [model CD-BTB200]).

Have you checked out the Pioneer AVH-P3200BT, AVIC-U310BT or the AVIC-Z110BT? They all have built-in bluetooth.

AVH-P3200BT was the one I was going to get, but the bluetooth is for phones online, no bluetooth music streaming.

AVIC-U310BT I dont like the look and its got a tiny screen. although i havnt really tried it out.

AVIC-Z110BT, are you joking?! list price : $1,800.00

I didnt realize the CD-BTB200 was going so cheap on ebay. If I was to go with the avh-p4200dvd, I was planning on adding that later.}

Haha, the AVIC-Z110BT has come down in price quite a bit, but yeah, it's still pricey. It's around $900 online through various sources.

I also had the feeling the U310BT was a bit too cheap for what you were wanting.

Didn't know you wanted bluetooth music streaming, d'oh! ;) Yeah, hopefully knowing about the bluetooth adapter being available for a decent price on ebay will open up a few more options for you. What are your thoughts on Alpine and Clarion's offerings?

Aplines fine, but half the people that come into the store I work walk up and say something along the line of "I need a new deck/amp my clarion deck/amp just died on me".

Haha, that's a shame. I've had pretty good experiences with Clarion. I've liked the Alpine IVA-W203 quite a bit, but I think most (if not all) Alpine head units are bluetooth ready and need an external adapter.

ill check out the alpine amps.

I love the AVH-P4200dvd, but theres no decent bluetooth solution for it, apparently the bluetooth kit that you can buy for pioneer decks right now dosn't support newer smartphones such as the iphone (which I have).

Alpine iXA-W407 for $550 would pick any day over the Sony. Still A/V units like these seem much too expensive for what they offer.

The alpine iXA-W407 looks like a good deck, but its not available in canada.

All of the alpines are higher priced, and don't come with bluetooth, and from the reviews of the bluetooth/nav module available i see nothing but complaints...

also, if the deck is available at bestbuy.ca or futureshop, all the better, because I know its available in canada, and I would get staff discount (at cost).

The alpine rep came into our store today, and appearently even though the iXA-W407 isn't available in our store right now, I should be able to order it from them in a couple weeks.
