To give you some idea of how long you'll have to wait before you can attempt re-entering the code if you do get it wrong:- (and by wait, that means having to leave the key in the ignition, turned to position one, and the stereo switched on as well)
thanks very much hay 88, so i dont have to leave the engine running then, i heard the radio turns off after an hour would this be right ,il leave it running for the 2 hours and 40 mins if that what it takes

As has been stated many times on this forum the majority of SIEMENS/VDO codes (including your CDR500) will NOT be available for free (or cheap) from anywhere on the Internet as access is required to the original factory database...which is not commercially available..
Try your Main Dealer or a Decoding Service or your local Car Radio / Audio Shop (who are normally the cheapest option) who will connect it to a laptop to read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM)
