I am wanting to replace my system in my 2000 range rover. It is a Harman-Karden. I know that I want two JL 12 w3 subs. All the speakers need to be replaced. I think it has two tweeters, four mid and four Kickers? but im not sure. What would i need to do for a head unit? What speakers should i get that dont over power the subs and are not over powered by them? And what do i need to do in terms of amp and wires? Thanks so much in advance!!!!!
Well I dont want to go all out. But i dont want it to sound like crap or not work or last. So whatever would be decent quality but at a good value. lol
Alpine head unit with 3 pair of pre-outs, no internal amplification
DLS 2-way component set (Reference seris at least) in 5.25 or 6.5" whichever fits your car's front speaker locations
DLS Performance series rear coaxials
RD Audio 55.4AB or 85.4AB amplifier to drive the above
2 Fi Audio Q or SSD series 12" subs (better than the W3, and cheaper) in a vented enclosure
RD Audio 100.1D or 1750.1D amplifier to drive the pair of subs
2-amplifier 4 or 1/0 gauge wiring kit
sound deadening material if you want to go that route to quiet down the interior of that Rover, and make the system more efficient and better sounding by reducing resonance in the sheet metal of the SUV.
There you go. www.alpinecaraudio.com www.dls.se www.rdaudio.com www.knukonceptz.com
Ok sweet! Yeah a buddy of mine suggested JL but it looked pricy for what i was getting. Ok so would dynamat work? or is there something else i should look into?
Fi makes good subs but if SQ is what you are going for I would stick with JL, or even IDQ over the Fi's. It's going to depend on how much power you're looking to run to them on which model to choose.
The Fi Q series sub is purely a SQ sub. It's designed by the same guy who made the first gen XBL^2 motor driven RE XXX. Very very linear, accurate sub with outstanding detail. JL is OK, but overpriced and overhyped in my opinion. They ride on their name as much as their quality, and it seems like everybody has JL. I just get tired of seeing JL everywhere, but that's me. The IDQ is an outstanding choice as well, and also worth consideration, I agree. I suggested the Fi SSD because it's more in line with the JL W6v2 or v3, as it's an all around daily use high output sub. I fair compromise between pure SQ and an SPL sub. I wasn't sure how serious you were about a SQ system versus a "mine is louder than yours" setup. Pretty much everything but the subs though, was aimed for pure SQ. The Fi Q is what I use for a SQ system, but any of the above are a good choice. the JL W3 is their SQ offering, and on par with the Fi Q.
