I want to take my 20+ Family VHS videos and preserve them on DVD. Can I use a new DVD camcorder, to do this??? Then I would have a new camera, player and recorder?? What format do you suggest Dual? It first seemed easier to just buy a DVD recorder or burner. Then I learned about DVD + and - and Ram formats, etc. I want my kids to watch these on their DVD players. Hate to buy what becomes quickly obsolete. (Purchased my first vhs player in 1981 for $981.00, Video 8 for $1200 in 1990 and a nice Sharp Mini DV for $600). Suggestions welcome.

see if the dvd-r camcorder has a/v inputs. if so, you can do it. but editing might be a pain. same with a standalone dvd-r. if you do alot of editing, get a video capture card for the computer. and get a computer dvd-r. then you can convert anything you have to dvd. as long as it has an a/v output. your homemovies will be more enjoyable with the garbage edited out. you can even make title pages and menus with some software.
