I have learned to take my money for rear speakers and just go with fronts and subs for sound imaging quality. That said, my front doors take 6x9s, for the 2.1 setup(fronts and sub) sound i use a high quality 6x9 or components?? |

Using a component speaker is going to give you your best sound quality. But if its going to be difficult to put 6.5s in your doors that take 6x9s just go for 6x9s. It also depends where the speakers would sit, if its low, then using 6x9s is going to take away the imaging quite a bit and it would be worth making 6.5s fit. But no matter what you do If you want high quality sound your going to need to use an external amp to power the speakers. But you have the right idea of what to do. I really see no reason to have back speakers unless people sit in the backseat, but other than that your front speakers will give you the best sound, it sounds funny that all you really need is 2 speakers and a sub to get the best sound, as you see many people with "high end" systems that have like 30 speakers in their vehicle, but it just destroys your imaging. What kind of budget do you have? What have you been thinking about buying? but like i said if your 6x9s sit low in the door i would say find a way to make 6.5s work unless you think 6x9s will work better for you. Hope this helps |

You can use some tin snips to notch out the openings a bit if you need to. With the door panel back on, nobody will know the difference. I've done this more times than I can count. Also, by using a plate for components, you can angle the speakers as desired for the best imaging. point them to fire across the cabin at the head position of the person on the opposite side of the car (passenger speakers aim at the driver, etc) and you should get a good starting point for a good soundstage and good imaging. |
