I read some reviews online and figured it would be a good add for my college apartment so I bought the system for $75. Well the trouble comes when trying to hook-up the subwoofer for the system. On the back of the unit there is a pre-amp out and on the powered sub there are two, aux hookups for input and output. I've tried hooking up to both and it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone help me with this please? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Bronze Member Username: Jth0033Downingtown, Pennsylvania United States Post Number: 71 Registered: Sep-05 | The receiver is the Kenwood VR-406. I bought it as a package with the receiver and front, center and rear speakers and the sub. Everything else seems to hook-up alright its just a problem with the sub, I want a little boom during my movies. |

Bronze Member Username: Vm8444Post Number: 84 Registered: Aug-05 | so the sub your sure is active or powered with a built in amp? model? maybe its the cable your using, try another rca,,, and when you hook up the sub end to sub and the reciever end disconnect from the kenwood and touch the tip of rca with your finger do you hear a hum? |
Bronze Member Username: Jth0033Downingtown, Pennsylvania United States Post Number: 79 Registered: Sep-05 | yea i tried mulitple hookups same thing. i do get a hum when i hook it up which leads me to believe its the receiver and not the sub any ideas? haha |
Bronze Member Username: Vm8444Post Number: 85 Registered: Aug-05 | well justin it might be the reciever ,, tough to troubleshoot online what source dvd ?.. check set up on that or which digital cable into what input on reciever? manual http://www.kenwoodusa.com/UserFiles/File/UnitedStates/Home/Manuals/VR407.pdf |

Bronze Member Username: Jth0033Downingtown, Pennsylvania United States Post Number: 80 Registered: Sep-05 | I just like a thumping/humming noise from the sub |
Bronze Member Username: Vm8444Post Number: 86 Registered: Aug-05 | any way you can try another reciever [borrow] with that sub.. if not I'll sell you a marantz for 200 he he |
Gold Member Username: JrbayLivonia [Detroit area], Michigan USA Post Number: 1114 Registered: Feb-08 | So this tells us that the cable and the sub are probably working fine. Vince's proposal about trying a different receiver is a good one (and buying a Marantz for 200 probably isn't a bad one either) but if all of that is not possible the other option is to use the speaker level inputs and outputs on the sub. You would run left/right speaker wire from the receiver to the sub in then sub out to the speakers. Setting the receiver to run large front speakers should then complete the set up. |
