How to match the gains for two amps?

I have two mtx 2400x amps that are two channel amps that are bridgeable at 4 ohms. I have a L7 kicker 15 that is a dual 4ohm sub. I go to a local monthly competition and I don't hit nearly as good as I should. Someone told me when you have two amps you have to match the gains. I know you have to use a multimeter in AC but how do you get a constant accurate reading? Is there anything else I could do?

actually you use a scope and test tone CD, not a DMM.

by the way, what are you hitting on an RTA?
what's your SPL, metered?
Your amp probably isn't the issue, since that sub is rated for about 750 watts.
If it's one sub, DVC, and you have it wired for a 2 ohm load, any 800 watt amp will let that sub reach peak excursion.
Your problem more likely lies in the charging system for the car, and the enclosure design as opposed to an issue of power.
remember two times the power is only a +3dB gain, and that's in ideal settings. In the real world you'll get less of a gain probably.
double the volume equals ten times the power.
