They're about 20 years old (speakers maybe more, i got them used) and have served me well. But the amp or speakers are failing (probably the amp). One channel on the amp fails regularly or fuzzes out.
The speakers are decent sounding but many years ago I replaced one of the tweeters with a cheapo Radio Shack replacement because it had failed. So there's definitely a loss of fidelity going on there.
So, I need to replace something. I'm thinking of either getting a new amp (relatively inexpensive one) or chucking the amp and speakers and getting something like the Audioengine A5 powered speakers.
Can anyone tell me if I'd be going up or down in quality if I went with the A5s instead of a new amp (presuming my problem is with the amp and not the speakers)?
My sources these days are either CDs from the Phillips or 256kb MP3s from an airport express.
