Post subject: Major IKS Outage December 10, 2009... Post Posted: Thu Dec 10, 2009 5:58 pm
We are comfortable in announcing that in fact Echo* has taken action against IKS in the form of a new and advanced method of adversely impacting the operations of IKS . Just before 2PM Eastern Time, all but 1 public IKS system went offline on most all Charlie channels.
Impacted were: CNX, I-Link, Kbox, Neosat (EKS) and Sonicview. Impacted last week's event and still down are IKSlinger and Nfuision.
Sonysat has been doing server maintenance today, and were not directly down as a result of activities by Echo*. Sonysat at the time at the time of this posting is UP on Charlie . They are continuing maintenance today and may be down again but this is an unrelated issue.
Last week there was much speculation if the outage tha saw 5 solutions go down was in fact caused by an ecm . The Nfusion spokesperson under the name of "Superstar" warned that it was in fact an ecm and that Nfusion would remain offline until a remedy was available. Many of us, including myself discounted the statements as there were no indicative signs of any traditional ECMs. While I am not ready to declare or give weight to the accuracy of Superstar's statements, the fact remains that something definitely occurred today resulting in the loss of most IKS solutions working on Charlie.
Superstar may have very well made a lucky guess, saw the writing on the wall, never-the-less a clever maneuver was conducted, bringing IKS down, but from the looks of things, it should be relatively easy to combat.
Since IKS became the new standard solution for testing N3 channels, this latest round of events are the first to have any genuine adverse impact on the card sharing solution. Some months ago, Echo* had cited they would not be able to combat IKS with traditional ECMs. This is correct. The advanced techniques now being used are nothing like what has been seen in the past and will require additional work to combat.
At this point it will be of no value to project when a particular solution will recover, or engage in endless rumours as to the cause. This will be up to the work conducted by each of the coding teams. Some may be down for an extended period of time, much like the Slinger and Nfusion systems have already declared they would be. Time will tell and we will do everything you can to inform you of any changes or new files that may be issued.
In the meantime, patience is highly suggested. Reply With Quote
