Silver Member Username: Simple_smithLapeer, Michigan United States Post Number: 103 Registered: Dec-08 | Ok so i bought an alpha 12 back around labor day and my buddy wants to upgrade now. He has two CVX 12s and an RF 2000.1bd would you suggest just 2 Alpha 12s? His amp makes 2146 watts @ 2 ohms. I don't know what it makes @ 1 ohm... He has an 08 impala and it sounds pretty damn loud to me already and the gain on the amp is still way down. He's looking for SQL Any alternate suggestions would be appreciated Also what ohm subs would you suggest running for that amp? |

Post Number: 15528 Registered: Jul-05 | if the amp is this : http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Rockford_Fosgate_Power_T20001bd/ then 1 x 750W @ 4 ohms 1 x 1500W @ 2 ohms 1 x 2000W @ 1 ohm underrated so ur supposed to get a few more hundred wrms if u google u cud probably find a actual birthsheet ... |
Silver Member Username: Simple_smithLapeer, Michigan United States Post Number: 106 Registered: Dec-08 | Yes, it is that amp. my friend says it makes 2150 @ 1 ohm (i don't know why such a small difference from 2 ohm, but whatever) |

To keep that amp at that power, you will need upgrades, otherwise the amp will produce less as your voltage drops. you can under power a coulpe of Alphas, which wouldn't hurt anything, or drive- 2-12" Sonances. How much room do you have as far as box space? |

Silver Member Username: JohammbassIRL Post Number: 791 Registered: May-06 | my friend says it makes 2150 @ 1 ohm (i don't know why such a small difference from 2 ohm, but whatever) The difference is so small from 2 to 1 ohm because engineers didn't want it to burn or blow up at 1ohm, so they put in some current limiting circuit. And by the way, there is nothing "underrated" about that amp. It's rated power is given at THD of 1% and that is not low for an amp. Hell, it might even give you 2300W into 1 ohm, but your distortion will be around 5%, so how good is that "underrating"? So you can see a bit better picture, here is a comparison on how high quality amps are rated: Stereo, 4 ohms: 2x150 Watts Stereo, 2 ohms: 2x300 Watts Stereo, 1 ohms: 2x600 Watts Bridged, 4 ohms: 1x600 Watts Bridged, 2 ohms: 1x1200 Watts T.H.D. + Noise: <0.014% No current limiters and no overblown rating that gives a THD of 1%. Well, it is a Zapco amp so you get what you pay for ![]() |

Silver Member Username: Simple_smithLapeer, Michigan United States Post Number: 108 Registered: Dec-08 | He has all 1/0 gauge and a kinetik 1400 in the back along with a RF capasitor (don't worry he knows its next to useless, but he got a good deal on it). He is planning on gettin a HO alternator soon, before he upgrades his subs. Probably about 6 cubes of useable box space in the trunk. |

-_- ![]() Smith, I would go with 2 Sonance's.. Unless you plan on addind more power later. Sounds like that amp would be a good match for 2-12" Sonances.. |
Gold Member Username: Hittin1TEAM REVOLUTION, La. Lake Charles... Post Number: 3989 Registered: May-07 | With that power and space, have you thought about a single 15" or 18" Alpha setup? |
Silver Member Username: WfbassStephenville, NL Canada Post Number: 134 Registered: Sep-08 | i got a rockford t2000 and a 15" alpha in 3 cubes ported at 35hz and i find it a good combo. i had a re mx 12" and i find the alpha way louder but doesnt hit as low. id say if he got the room do a single 15" alpha with the proper enclosure and u r friend should be pleased![]() |
Silver Member Username: JohammbassIRL Post Number: 794 Registered: May-06 | dont rockfords birthsheets say what the rms is at a givin voltage and THD level? That's my point. RF is not underrated, it's overrated. That's because they give you their rated power is at 1% THD and that's pretty sh*tty. So if RF says that the amp is 2000W RMS then you would be lucky to get 1800W RMS @ 0.2% THD from it. Well, it is a bit harder to hear distortion at lower freq. that's why class D (efficient but dirty) amps are almost exclusively used for subs. A lot of guys are simply looking for that ghetto bass and that's about it. Very few people have systems with exeptional bass SQ. |

Gold Member Username: BonhamdTraverse City, MI Post Number: 1937 Registered: Nov-07 | on a serious note - 1 18 if you can fit it....will give you the most cone area - that will give him the most potential to get loud within his space 1 18 may be hard to fit though 2 12s seems like a good option. it will be tough to get louder than the cvxs though. they should be able to take all of that RF amp is he just looking for something that has the ability to stay about as loud as the CVX with the ability to drop lower? |

i dissagree.. We just did this exact upgrade except with 15's.. The Sonances are louder and are not as muddy on the low end. . And that was with the Sonances being in the same box as the CVX's.. Which is entirely too big. The CVX's are about as good as kicker gets SQL wise, but that is easily surpassable by a quality product... RD is not the only product that would do it, but that is what the thread is about. My $.02. |

Post Number: 1448 Registered: Apr-07 | " That's because they give you their rated power is at 1% THD and that's pretty sh*tty" How's that shitty? In a vehicle you WILL NOT hear a difference in terms of THD in amplifiers below 1% and if you think you can you're full of it. The amp is the least of your worries, the faults with speakers and acoustic transmission will nullify how low your THD is. |

This. The amp is the LEAST of your worries. You think the human ear can tell a difference between .01% to 2%THD? Especially in a car environment. Also, if you are that worried about THD ratings, you must play .flac in your car? Because Mp3s are extremely dirty in terms of specs. |
Gold Member Username: FrkkevinTeam DLSSuperNatural... Post Number: 7338 Registered: Nov-05 | 1 18? if he can fit that why would one not do 2 15s? LOL and yes.. dls is a budget brand for me |
Gold Member Username: The_image_dynamicSan Diego, California Post Number: 5358 Registered: Dec-06 | You couldn't hear 1% THD with a pair of reference headphones. And... car speakers produce their own THD, commonly around 5% for mid/highs and 10% for subwoofers. IMD is far more relevant, but barely any car audio companies publish that spec. |
