New member Username: RedjayyPost Number: 7 Registered: Aug-09 | So I'm planning my first system and was wondering if yall could please help. I am trying to decide if i want to save some cash and buy 2 Alpine Type R 12's and an MRP M-1000, or if i should go all out and buy 2 JL W6v2 12's and 2 alpine MRP M-500's to power them. I called a local audioshop and they gave me some prices. Its about $650 for the Type R's, a box, wiring, and the amp. And its about $1100 for the same with the W6's. I was wondering if the extra $450 is really worth it for the upgrade, cause i still need to buy a head unit and 2 sets of speakers. I guess im looking for some hard hitting SQL, if that makes sense. Thank yall for looking. |

As said before if you want loud, type r may be the way you want to go (especially if you want to save some cash). But if you are wanting some awesome sound quality and a sub that definitely will last along time then JL might be a little better choice. My current setup is a single JL 12w6v2 ported and I couldn't be happier. At retail price, it can be argued there are better subs for the money, but if you don't mind used you can usually pick them up for cheap. Just need to have some patients to find the right deal and make sure they are in good condition. I originally bought two used with a box for $320. Bumping strong for three years now. A cousin of mine has three of the old school 12w6's he got used and hes actually going on 8yrs now I think. Definitely some quality stuff. |

I don't even know how old it is, but its been to hell and back and still kicking. If you can get a deal, go for it for sure, but otherwise just stick with the Type R's |

I think I already knew that the W6 would have better SQ, but im kinda suprised everyone is saying the Type R will be louder, i thought for double the retail price youd get better SQ AND SPL, is that not true? |

The W6 is have better SQ when compared to the Type R but assuming all else is equal, the Type Rs should yield higher output. Now for $650 for subs, amp, wiring, and box; I'd be willing to bet money we can set you up with something that will be better. I personally don't like the R one bit. I've heard plenty before and the sq and output didnt impress me. If I were in your shoes, Id forget the local shop and thee Type R and W6 and look into something along the lines of a Fi Q, a Stereo Integrity Mag V3, or even a Sound Splinter RL-P. |

He had a used rd 1000.1 for $159.00. If he sold he probably still help you out. on a new one . And get a amp kit from here for around 50. You might be ok running 4 gauge. But 0 gauge would be good just in case you upgrade which the majority end up doing. http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?category=Amp%20Installation%20Kits# For the box try building yourself. or call around shops for best price. But make sure they know about proper cu ft. and tuning if your going to port it. Cause about 70 % of the shops i went too had no idea what i was talking about when it came to tuning the box, They just figure heres a box with two holes on it and a slot. Hope this helps a little? |
