I have to record a 50 day training program and edit it for TV broadcast. Each training session will approximately be 140 minutes. There will be 4 training sessions per day. I have to be prepared to record a minimum of 200 whole sessions of 140 minutes each.
Since the location is isolated and in another country, I will have to take everything I need with me. For a total tape less solution for recording and I thought of taking the Firestone FS1 with me, backing to DVD after every two sessions through my laptop or PC.
I have come across a problem that needs to be sorted out. On average, I will have to backup 100 GB of data daily, and will have to bring back nearly 5000 GB of data with me for editing, If I were to backup the whole program to DVD, then I will have to take about 1200 DVDs with me. That is neither practical nor wise.
(My calculations are based on this: 12 GB of space needed for every 60 minutes of video captured. 4.7 GB of data to a DVD. Therefore; 6 DVDs per talk. 24 DVDs per day)
My questions are:
1. Is there a storage device that I can take with me that will hold up 5000 GB?
2. If not, if I use the compressions available in DVD recorders like the Panasonic DMR-E100H uses for LP or EP mode when writing to a DVD, will the quality still be acceptable for Television broadcast?
