curious | what exactly are transmission line speakers? what are their pros and cons?and are they expensive?also, are they suitable for small rooms(audio only not HT). |
Max | Hello, Thats a good question and I hope somebody can answer it. I used to have some dcm transmission line speakers and I was always led to beleive it just means it has a horn loaded tweeter but I am almost positve I am wrong. |
timn8ter | A transmission line is a quarter wave length tube or pipe. The length of the pipe is equal to 1/4 the wavelength of the drivers resonance frequency. The idea is to get a smooth response down to that level rather than the usual falloff. Bottom line: better, lower bass response than in other types of enclosures. Many QWT are tapered as a result of the work of Paul Voigt, hence the popular Voigt Pipe or Tapered Quarter Wave Tube (TQWT). For more in depth information visit: http://www.quarter-wave.com |
