Alright so i have a 2003 cavalier, charging system is completly stock in it, i have 2 12" type r's running off a MRP-M1000 amp so 1000w rms. im looking at getting a HO alternator and getting a optima yellow top battery, Im also planning on putting some compenents up front so that would mean another amp.
I was thinking a 200amp Alternator or could i run a 160amp alternator? Also when i do get the battery and the HO alternator, what else will i need to upgrade to make the upgrade complete and working properly? Thanks Alot

Get as big as alt as you can that way you dont have to upgrade later.

x2 what jon said

For the battery anything but optima. Really just about anythings better, odyssey, kenitik, powermaster...

Big 3 must be done when a HO alt is installed.

The Big three is a wiring upgrade. People generally use 0 gauge wire to beef up the following connection:

1. Battery negative to vehicle ground
2. Alt. positive to battery positive
3. Chassis ground to engine ground

And I would also get the biggest alt you could.

And I would not get the Optima, I have a yellow top and have been completely unimpressed by it.

If you could only do one thing to upgrade a stock 2000 Suburban charging system. Would you add another battery or up grade the alternator.

My battery goes dead every 5-6 days.

Thanks in advance.

Then either your battery is bad or something is constantly drawing current.

Here's the rest of the story.
I only drive 2 miles to work and 2 miles back. It is winter here in Ohio and I drive with the headlights on. New Battery every 2-3 months. Alternator has been checked and the dealer says the draw on the battery is correct when the truck is off. The dealer claims that I do not drive enough to "recharge" the batterry.

List your car, because i will not buy this brand.

The alternator is too small, my wife run only half mile morning and evening for get the bus with her old Dodge Stratus 96 with 180,000 miles and never i had need to charge the battery or boost this car.

Yeah that's what I figured. I guess I need to spend the money on a better alternator.
