I remember when i first started getting into car audio when i was 16. I went through so many crappy setups, but problably the worst was My two fusion 10s in a sealed box with a hole cut in the side of it(to make it "ported" of course)on a 600watt boss amp. To make it worse, i got a Jensen 10 in a bandpass box from target for $50 and hooked it up to a VR3 amp(wal-mart), and crammed it in the trunk sideways with the fusions. silly me.

Well according to my friends,Ive had a few different "dumb" setups. They think its stupid and I got ripped off paying a couple/few hundred for a 1000watt amp when I could get a Sony Xplod "1200" watt amp for $80 bucks at the flea market. Or when I buy a nice sub for a few bills when I could just get some Sony Xplod 12s and add a few Xplod 15s to it and be "bumpin"

Oh and lets not forget "why pay 150-200 bucks for a custom enclosure, when you could buy a sheet of plywood at Home Depot for $20 and make it yourself and just drill out a hole in it so its ported"

Notice how they say plywood, true story BTW.

2 sealed type-r 10s rear facing and a type-r 12 firing upward in the trunk of a mustang gt with 500rms each on factory charging (with a kicker 360.4 on mids too). Lights dimmed like crazy. I guess it was dumb luck it sounded really good and got pretty loud.

I had two 15" RF Punch Z's and two 15" no-name brand subs in two different ported enclosures in my '93 mustang hatchback powered with a Legacy two channel 600W MAX amp.

My first wasn't that bad. It was just dirt cheap. Kenwood 150w(i think) 2-chan amp and a pair of 12" kenwood subs in a sealed box... Bought that as a package. Later I got dumb. I had a crunch 500w(bridged) 2-chan amp the kenwood subs I metioned earlier, I had gotten some really cheap subs for 20 bucks they were B.A.S.S. 12s. and i picked up a prefab ported box(that was made by what looked like 5/8" particle board) I threw those all in my trunk(I have no idea how i wired them in anymore, but it was definitely wrong) and hilariously and with my knowledge now i would say expectedly it was less loud than just the kenwoods. That was almost the end of my dumbness. I took out the BASS subs and put the kenwoods in the prefab ported.I had the gain cranked all the way up so obviously the subs blew, I put in the BASS subs and those blew. Realized I was dumb and I got on E(thank the lord for you guys). I then picked up my Type-R's that I still have, put them in the sealed box, and still ran my crunch amp(gains set correctly this time around).

But at least there was a happy ending to my adventures in speakers all thanks to E.

My worst set up was my first set up in my 1st car!

2x12" Alpine Type S subs
Sony Xplod amp (not the octagon red ones but the silver ones)
Old schoool Kenwood 2 channel that I got from my dad.
Sony XPlod 6x9's and 6.5's

it was really ghetto looking as well.

when I was 16 my first system composed of 2 10" sony explodes powered by a nitro amp (the flee market ones with blue LED's). I can remember that everyone thought it was the coolest and loudest thing they had ever seen. of course I went with 10"s b/c I thought that the 10s would give me so much better sq vs the 12s. They also suckered me into buying a fancy looking band pass box with cheep fiberglass on the outside looking in. Even after that I had a few other armature systems. It took a lot of trial and error to get in the grove of things.

Depends on what other components he used. One guy I knew though he would out do us all in SPL by spending a good 800 or so on two 15" L7s (when they first came out and were the 'thing to get'). He then paired them with a crummy amp and box from the flee market; they sounded worse than beating on trash cans. I consider that to be a completely 'dumb setup'.

well considering i thought i could run them off stock electrical, it was pretty dumb. i built my box and had a sufficient enough amp for them though. from then i have ran a Fi Q 18" and now my current HDC315. much less dumb haha

two audiobahn 10's in the audiobahn prefab bandpass box with plexiglass on the front and an LED light inside...all powered by a pyramid gold series 4-channel amp...i cranked the gains and blew one sub...then built a small sealed box to put the other one in using the same amp

i actually still have it sitting in my room lol its garbage but it was my first system so its got sentimental value

it's not a bad sounding driver by any means, but it's also not sq orientated like the Q. it has a little more punch to it but the Q sustained notes better IMO. it also dropped lower of course since it was an 18", but even if it was a 15" i believe it still would go lower, since Q's are known for that. my box is also tuned 10hz higher now though, which has definitely improved mid-bass response, which the Q lacks.

main reason i switched is it was not very practical having a 7cuft box in my trunk. thing needed to breathe more. i like the HDC3 a little more just because it can handle much more power and it does better with rock music, again probably because the Q was an 18" though and being such a large driver it isn't quite as responsive. that thing still murdered the low lows and i miss that.

but overall, it's not too audibly different. say the Q was 10/10 sq, the HDC3 would be 7 or 8/10 i'd go with

i remember my first set up. 2 12 lighting audio and a small crunch amp. i thought it was great! haha.
it was the first "box" i ever made... it was just a sheet of wood (idk what kind) that set in the back of my firebird... i just cut out holes and set the subs in them..... pretty sad

i had 2 10" mtx thunder 4500's ona 500 watt jensen amp in a qlogic bandpass box.

i will have to throw it out there and say that it actually sounded pretty god for wat it was and got god damn loud for that power.

then up to 2 10" mtx thunder 7500's on a thunder 942 amp and just got more serious from there

mtx isnt bad to start with though there decent subs and def decent amps

well i didnt have a really azz lame set - at least i hope not ....2 pioneer 12s off my bros power acoustik monoblock & factory door speakers off deck power ... b4 i got into car audio i did ALOT of online reading\research but i did start with those 2 pios since i just started to work so didnt have much $ 'i just wanted a lil somethin'

back then silly me swore by factory rec sub box specs so by my standards today it wud sound like azz but back then when u didnt know better it was what u knew to sound 'good'

after those pios i stepped up alot to a pair of 12s type Rs & then a few other sub combos along the way

sh!ttiest sets i have heard : well i am ashamed to say in my country we have alot of retards who use pro audio speakers\drivers\tweeters in crappy boxes ON TOP on their cars in certain hang out spots & these tards try to be louder than the other tards & most of them r tone deaf so its A TON of ear hurting distortion since most of them cant tune a sh1t ...

my first system was in a white toyota pick up. i had 15 x 10 rims with some fat tires. half the tires were sticking out the sides and i lowered it with some lowering blocks i bought from pepboys.

anyways the system consisted of 2 10inch pyle subs with a 300watts pyramid amp. it was a skinny box that fit right behind the bench seat. the subs were firing forward and had 2 horn tweeters mounted on top. i didn't have any midrange speakers so it was all subs and horns. i thought i was all bad with that system.

oh and my hu was a kenwood pullout. i used to think i was the sh!t with that kenwood. i would pull it out and walk around with it so people would see what kinda headunit i had. i can't forget about the big letters i put across the top of my front windshield that read "K E N W O O D". of course i tinted that top portion of my front windshield dark so the white letters showed better.

man i wish i could find my old pics. i miss that truck.

Lol yeah it was pretty weak but hey, car audio back then was in its' early stages yet. And yeah Chad that was the 5.7 TPI. At the time it was a "fat" ride.

And you're right Mark. My second system used two 12" Kenwoods in my own box powered by a 300w Drive series amp. For me and at that time it was considered decent. Left the system in the car when I sold it after I got married. Divorced now and I want it back.

Haha, an 88 Camaro is a muscle car? What a trip. The stupid 4 bangers people drive today actually make sense to me since they're more efficient on fuel but you're right, that's just stupid. We should go back to huge displacement engines that get 15mpg in a 3,000 pound chassis.

Actually the best bang for your buck in performance is still the cr0tch rockets. Down south they are year round transportation. 0-60 in 3 seconds or less for under $8000 out of the crate? Almost bought one in my prime. Sorta glad I didn't.

Well my camaro wasn't a slouch when it came to fun. I still held my own against mustangs and such but I never drove it like it was a track car.

My car was a dead match to this one. Nobody can say that car was a lame duck or wasn't fun as hell. I will always be a fan of 3rd generation camaros for obvious reasons.

Lol, my van can burn out like that if I'm turning into it until it flips over and it's running like crap =/ I drove one for 2 years and the power under the hood isn't all that impressive, it wasn't stock either, Flowmaster exhaust, chipped, CAI, ignition upgrades, dual electric vans.

My first system I had a 1971 chevelle malibu with a pioneer super tuner tape deck with two pyramid phase 3 10's in a large sealed box with a radio shack eq booster 45x2 into the subs and 15 x 2 into my factory dash speakers till they blew up. Later I found a 12 inch blown sub and cut the back off and used the cone as a bass radiator and it got a decent bit louder.

Being my age I really do remember Funky Pups, Sagatogas, and BOSS subwoofers. That and the band pass boxes powered by Pyramid amps. No boxes that I can recall were sealed when I first got into car audio, they all had 2in deep ports and Piezo horn tweeters installed, man those were the days... of suck.
