So I'm finally upgrading my front stage, need some 5.25" components. Looking for SQL, but a bit more on the SQ side. Something that would match up great with my LA storm (aka TC-3000). Budget is $75-$100. I have been looking at...

Diamond Audio M351
Diamond Audio D352
Phoenix Gold Octane-ZR
Phoenix Gold RSd5cs
JBL GTO 507C
Morel Millenium?
Boston Acoustics S50
Crystal CSC50T

$75-$100

Alot of the stuff I found in my list is used, but not all of it. So if it seems out of place on that list, let me know.

The D3's are nice budget comps. I used to run a pair of the 5.25'' and they sounded good. I would maybe save up a little more though.

I found a set of those BA s50's for $118 shipped. How long until you are gonna install them Sean?

Anyone heard anything about the Crystal CSC50T? I found a new pair for $100 shipped, is that a good deal? What would they compare to?

This will be first component set, so I don't need anything too fancy lol. Plus this is just my winter car, so I will be upgrading in spring anyways in my other car.

I run a set of the Crystal CPe components right now (like $90) and they are pretty solid imo. Crystal makes a great product though.

The set of Crystals I had found earlier (CPC's) had titanium tweets, how much of a difference would I notice in the SQ?

Daniel- I don't have an amp yet.

Canaan- What do you have? I need 5.25", do you have anything that would be better than what I have listed.

Yea I checked a bunch of sites for them but I couldn't find them anywhere. I bought mine from infinitecaraudio.com and they seem to be out of business or something because their website does not work.

Scott what amp(s) do you have?

Found a set of OZ audio V525S3 5.25" for $100 shipped BNIB. Good deal?

Let's say I bumped my budget up to $150, anything anyone would suggest hands down better than what I have in my list? Was thinking about a set of Diamond audio D6 w/silk tweets maybe?

Lol ya I did edit that. I did have the budget posted in the thread title though.

So those CDT CL-S50A comps are looking pretty good for only $100 shipped w/ 1 year warranty.

I did run across these...http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19644
Are they any better than the CDT's? I noticed they are 2 ohm, so I could spend less on an amp due that I could get more power out of a smaller amp.

Found a used pair of Pioneer Premier TS-C520PRS for $175. Worth the extra money?

Anything anyone else would recommend over the CDT's for Under $150???

Yea I was looking at the MRP-F250 and F300. If I find a big enough 4ch amp, I was thinking about just running 2 channels for comps (instead of bridging), and leave the other 2 for if I ever get more mid range or mid bass in the future. But I would also like to get a kicker amp, to match my KQ30 eq.

Whatever I choose, it needs to be something somewhat efficient on both my electrical and my wallet lol.

Efficient is one of alpines strong points. Nor so much for kicker but they are great quality amps.

Go with just a 2ch if you're concerned about current draw..... with a clas AB amps those extra 2 channels are constantly drawing a considerable amount of power even if no sound is fed to them.

So would a 2 channel amp ran @ 4 ohms per channel be more efficient than a 4 channel amp bridged @ 4 ohms?

Any other AB amps that are comparable to Alpines efficiency? Just seeing what my options are.

" So would a 2 channel amp ran @ 4 ohms per channel be more efficient than a 4 channel amp bridged @ 4 ohms? "

Ya with most amps that is the case. The difference shouldn't be huge but there is a difference.

" Any other AB amps that are comparable to Alpines efficiency? "

Most of the "good" brands of amps are fairly efficient..... the only other exception I can think of is JL... great quality amps but lack efficiency.

BTW what electrical do you have. You should only even have to think about this if its stock..... an HO alt and battery will handle whatever amp you want.

Bone stock! My voltage rarely drops below 14v while driving, but at idle it will drop, never had it under 12v though. And that's only when I'm wanging out to rap, usually I listen to rock/punk stuff.

If my voltage starts dropping once I get this installed, I'm going to reground my batt/alt under the hood and add a second batt in the trunk just to see what happens (only because I have an identical batt lying around).

Go for it, electrical upgrades can be added as needed..... just go easy on the volume and don't overdraw it thats how people blow equipment
