Sucks.
What are you running?
When you say "blew off" do you mean like it fell off or like launched off?
Pics or didn't happen.

haha kenwood has a "version of the W7". I didn't know any car audio company makes "versions" of other companies model. From what it looks like, they have completely different build and probably preform extremely differently.

honestly look closely at some...
3 ohm or 1.5 ohm coils....
hidden screws...
700-1000wrms...
Identical looks....
Alot of companies (kenwood, ascendant audio) have copied the looks/specs of the W7 due to its popularity and outstanding quality...

Sry bud but that sub is more similar to a Sony Explode than the W7. What building material were you using for your box?

Uh MDF.... 3/4 inch double baffle front.
And how many of those subs have you owned? yeah didn't think so...

ya it was...

a box should never fall apart no matter how much power or what subs are being ran...and they are still kenwoods nonetheless

yea, i first googled eXcelon KFC-XW and came up with thishttp://www.crutchfield.com/p_113XW1000/Kenwood-Excelon-KFC-XW1000F.html?search=k enwood+excelon&tp=111

After searching again and actually looking at the right model, I still would not say its a version of anything but itself; no 2 subs are alike and have their own characteristics. Personally I am not a fan of the Jl, but in its defense, just because your Kenwood and the W7 both are large 1000 wrms subs-- dose not make them similar in any means. It's true, I have never owned or even heard the eXcelon before and it could be a great sub for all I know, but perhaps a better way of explaining your sub is that it's the flag ship of Kenwood rather than kenwoods W7 clone.

As for your box, I'm sry 2 hear that it fell apart. Never have I heard of a well built box come apart, not even with a load of 15"s in it. I am not a box builder myself, but perhaps some of the others on here can give you some extra tips in repairing or re-building it.

Looks like you failed to include in your build the pool process. The chlorine in pool water actually bonds MDF together like no other technique. The trick is in the soaking/drying time.

Give up making boxes please. I'd be willing to bet most of us on here could slap some duct tape over cardboard and make a better box than you just described.

This isn't Best Buy, don't go around trying to suggest some Kenwood subs are just the shi t and blew up your well crafted enclosure.

do you own or have you had any experiance with the subs i have?

"This isn't Best Buy, don't go around trying to suggest some Kenwood subs are just the shi t and blew up your well crafted enclosure."

Once again have you heard or owned these subs?

I've had RE ascendant audio kicker alpine cadence and all those great subs and these are still my favourite. one of them is Louder and way better sounding than my arsenal and thats a 15"

I looked more closely and the screw on the top were like a 1/4 inch too close the inside so the mdf just split. so it was my bad i guess it was still sweeet though.

I guess a lot of members look at it like if I said "guys I installed new exhaust on my truck and when I floored it one of the pipes blew clean off! I'm the shizit aren't I?"

"why did that happen"

"I didn't weld it on right"

"AWESOME"

Gives you the chance to rebuild it better though.

"do you own or have you had any experiance with the subs i have?"

actually i have heard a pair...it was installed from a shop but it was still a pretty good looking install...box didnt look to bad either...sure it got kinda loud but nothing to be impressed with that couldnt be accomplished with MANY other 12's on 1500 watts...i dont know what you can get them for but if you paid ~650 for a pair like my friend did then i feel sorry for you as they are not worth near that IMO....and i would never compare it to a dub7

I don't think anyone on here would argue 'name brand' subs can not be a quality sub. Your sub may be a great sub. However, even in the category of 'name brand' subs there is a hierarchy of whats good and what sucks; kenwood is not on top. I think many of us believe and like to push for underground brands; you pay a lot less and get more quality for the buck. Not even that but there are a ton more options out there for the underground market-- so why not? Your sub may be a great sub but because people see that you fell into the main stream of getting 'suckered', people on here are going to react to what they see as ignorance in getting main stream/brand name products rather than saving money or investing in the diversity of underground brands.

The OP shows so much ignorance in this thread.

Dude, RD, RD, and AA are all name brands. They are not generic. I think you mean that they are not "main stream" in which you would be also wrong.

Also, Many people here suggest what you are calling "name brand equiptment." Like Alpine and poneer..

Kenwood is simply sub-par in every thing they do. Get over it.

Also for the record, I've seen a box with 4 15's that was made out of nothing but cardboard and ducktape burp, and even it didn't fall apart.

"underground brands like what who?"

I refer to 'underground brands' as brands not sold main stream or as nick put it "not generic". ex. AA, AQ, DD, Fi, DC, RE, RD...

ya.. looks like a fail on ur build. i have never had a box come apart and i have had much bigger subs that what u have. but listen to paul! the chlorine trick really works. i always let me box set in the pool over night after i am done. you can gain some dBs and it will sound better.
try it out this time!
and take some pics before and after. i want to see

i just have a few questions....

1 were you using nails not screws?

2 if they were screws what type

3 maybe all of them weren't put into the other piece of wood to fully connect them

4 like people have said up above, i've never heard of a box falling appart, even on 3kw+ RMS systems... how did yours?

5 maybe next time you try and sound like a bad a$s, make your story a little more believable... like idk, your sh!t was on a 60Hz sweep and a NAIL came out from the center part of your box, not the whole back blew off....

just a suggestion
