I have heard of people taking their subs from their car and bringing them into the house for a little more. Is this bad for the sub at all? If it is firing without an amp and just being powered by speaker wire out of the TV?

not familiar with the free air termonology... if you mean without a box, no i would leave it in the ported box from the car. No amp though correct...very underpowered...but worth it? does it hurt the sub?

you can buy a home theater plate amp or it is possible to power the subwoofer through the receiver, if you have one

Won't hurt the sub but why? Most speakers in any tv are full range and 25w or less? You'd be left with only hearing the lows. Crappy sounding ones at that.

It would be like watching tv with ear protection on.

You could run one on a home audio system with a plate amp

If it can be wired to 4 ohms that is
