A friend of mines got a SDC2.5 on a ZX750.1 so its getting 750rms. His stereo goes up to 50 and the gain was set with a dmm with the volume level 37. Some songs make the sub make strnage noice though. You can play the song money man by gorilla zoe (constant crazy bass) at volume 37 and the sub plays and sounds great. But songs that have a bass note that keep hitting (not a constant not) make the sub make a strange noise like its hitting something. Kinda lke a clunking noise. Its hard to ecxplain. For example the song white girl does it at volume level 30.
Does anyone have ideas as to what this is caused from. Could it be the HU? Or mabey too much power? But if its to much power why would a song like money man that has even more bass and take more power play and sound fine?
bottoming it out does come to mind. it happens on songs when the note hits hard. But songs that are louder and take more power as long as the bass is constant like money man it plays play fine.
i was hooking up a friends sub a few months ago dont remember the sub but there was a boss audio D500.2 amp and it made the sub sound like it was bottoming out too, it was only giving the sub about 1/2 the rated power and sounded like sh!t. switched out the amp to a better one and fixed the problem.
the sound the sdc2.5 makes is jst like the sub did on the crapy boss amp.
i have the same problem, certain songs sound amazing at high volumes and others sound like sh*t at slighty lower. my box is 2.20cf^3 at 33 hz 44 sq" port area. its like the bass is sloppy. could it be cause of the tuning? snarl is is the same for u? its like the bass hits to hard for the volume its at or something..
Doesn't the song whit girl play around 30-32hz? Sounds like you are bottoming out. The only thing I hated about my zx750.1 is the lack of an adj SS filter. They are pre-set at 25hz.
You could make the box smaller and/or drop the tuning to fix the bottoming out problem, or get a crossover/eq. To make the sub sound better on quick bass notes, try lowering the tuning and decreasing the port area.
