Planning on getting an MTX Thunder801D Amp and (2) Kicker Solo Baric L5. Currently, my alternator in my mitsubishi 3000gt is rated at 110 amp. Would I need to upgrade to a more powerful amp even though I wouldn't be playing it as loud all the time? (maybe an hr or two on the weekend) If I need to replace the alternator, what amp rating should I get? Also, would the system I'm wanting to hook up be too loud for a small sports car like a mitsubishi 3000gt? Considering I would only be playing at 30-50% of the capacity of the amp/subs. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
That alternator should handle an 801D just fine. It'll pull about 80 amps of current at full draw, like you said you won't play it that loud all the time. It's good to have the power on reserve even if you don't use it, the components won't have to be pushed as hard. 801D will be plenty of power for a 3000gt.
