New member Username: Bruhneedluv2Post Number: 7 Registered: May-04 | Sorry, but I need more specifics other than total crap, low qual LCD, and lasting time. It comes with a three year warranty regardless, so more details please. thanks!!! Also I guess I am looking at the rate for theft on a obvious pioneer, clarion, and alpine...with pioneer specifically there is a hideaway unit and headunit too much to hook up and that means they would have to destroy my trunk to get to the hideaway unit. I have a helluva alarm on my car but why take the risk of that plus the pyle has everything I basically need in one head unit. GPS and Navigation is not needed for me. this is work/play car not my travel/competition ride, feel me? |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 2790 Registered: Dec-03 | what specifics do you want? the units are very poorly made, with an abnormally high failure rate. You stand a good chance of having no radio for long periods while you wait for warranty repairs to be done (average turn around time on repairs is two to six weeks per repair *if* they can get parts readily) the LCD is low resolution, and not an active matrix display which means poor viewing angle, and grainy display with lack of detail. the unit is ugly, but stands just as good a chance of being stolen as any stereo that's non factory. If a thief wants the stereo, and he's good, he'll get it regardless. That's what insurance is for. If you're set on the unit though, then buy it, but don't be surprised when you find out how poor it really is afterward. its entirely up to you. |
New member Username: Bruhneedluv2Post Number: 9 Registered: May-04 | Now those are the types of specifics I want right there. another reason why I wanetd this headunit is because I dont have room in my 1.5 din space for a perhaps a double din set up. I have a 1990 cadillac eldorado 2 door coupe. that space would cost me a pretty penny to customize for other screens and so forth. Where is an economical way around "pimping my ride"? Also have you sold any of these HU's before? and is there anything good from pyle volfenhag, or dhd for that matter? Last but not least, would it be better to get a capacitor or a Xstatic battery cap? Thanks for the input!!! |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 2811 Registered: Dec-03 | hmmm ok, first, look at units like Alpine. the screen is refracted, or mounted separately so the dash space isn't an issue per se. the screen itself isn't "hard mounted" into the dash. It's motorized. secondly, no I haven't seen anything I'd consider worthwhile from the above companies. lastly, capacitors won't help you much honestly. If voltage dropping is a problem, then you need to start looking for a larger alternator for the car. |
Unregistered guest | HEY! I hope you get this... I reference to the HU, if you got it, what's it like!? I'm looking at the same thing for the SAME reasons, price and size... PLUS! If you want power... Don't worry about an alternator, get yourself an "Optima - yellow cap battery..." It'll run you like $120+ and then use THAT like a capacitor!!! It'll recharge itself, and it won't leak because it a "gel-cell", plus there's no odors like with an acid battery, and VERY LITTLE corrosive build-up, if any. ;) PS - What HU did you end-up getting!? |
Bronze Member Username: Bruhneedluv2Post Number: 28 Registered: May-04 | Hello there. I decided to go with an Alpine 9825: 3 4v preamp outputs (expandabilty and cleaner signal), CEA Compliant (I read about it instead of jumping at the standard), clarity of sound, economical pricing ($159.90 brand new including shipping), and I have not heard anything else good about the other HU's other than this brand and Eclipse. Besides, you can't be anymore classic than an Alpine in a 1990 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz. I'm going after that battery though. I have been getting advice from other shops out here in Arkansas and was told to get that battery because my stock alt is 120 amps already. I will get that and an econo cap for show and to balance out the system. |
