This depends on what type of speaker u have, the impedence (# of ohms) and number of coils on the speaker determine how to hook it to the amp. A two channel amp is 2 ohms per channel or 4 ohms bridged. For one sub the best would be a dual 2 ohm voice coil sub (1 channel per coil) or a single 4 ohm voice coil sub (with the amp bridged). A 2 ohm single voice coil sub can run of 1 channel (only using 1/2 the amp power though). Email me if any more questions.

lets say i have a 1000 watt sub. if i have 2 channel amp that distributes 500 watts per channel, is there some way i could wire it so the sub receives all 1000 watts. the sub would be dual 2 ohm.
