I have always used analog eq's(audiocontrol and ppi's 1/3 octave eq's ) and I am considering switching to the alpine h701 or audioocontrol DQXS. Going digital will certainly reduce the number of processors in the signal chain.(cleaner sound)
Can anyone explain which is the preferred type(digital or analog) for an SQ instal?
I'm actually going the h701 route as well.. don't want to change my h/u up yet to run optical..
there would be no background noise like you get with analog and you will notice a cleaner sound.. but you have to have a headunit capable to run the h701 with optical outputs so the setup can get expensive
but if your not going to compete in SQ you might ask yourself why you want to spend the money to do something like that?
Dispite having a digital EQ, if it's connected with RCAs it still analog. Like Kevin said if you use an optical connection from the source then it is truly digital up to the EQ.
"but if your not going to compete in SQ you might ask yourself why you want to spend the money to do something like that?
what is your current setup?"
Hu - pioneer(lower line non-premier model)
processors - Audiocontrol eql and a kenwood active crossover
Speaker - Mb quart entry level comp.
Amps - Jl audio and mtx audio.
Sub - IDMAX 12

M.S, is the optical connection the equivalent to the symblink used by zapco?
And are you implying that after the eq the signal becomes analog?
Does the Burr brown DAC's in hu's enhance digital signals in anyway?
I am considering the old eclipse cd8053 or the cd8454 or possibly the 880prs.. Does anyone know whether they are equipped with opt. outputs?
I would upgrade equipment before going full out .. not to be harsh
the Alpine 9887 is a great SQ deck.. or grap up an Eclipse CD7000 or the newer 7100
Your amps are fine.. but I'd get some higher end comps.. you'd be surprised the difference in just putting in a quality deck.. you might not want to do anything else after that
also make sure your speakers are installed properly.. sealed/dynmatted .. if your are not running components yet which im assuming you are i would switch them..
but my true opinion..
quality deck number 1
if that does not to it upgrade your components.. and keep going from there..
Frkkevin, no offense is taken by your comments. I actually welcome your suggestions.
I opted for an eclipse due to the high preout voltage which keeps induced noise at a mininum in the system. I am aware that it DOES NOT increase the SQ of the setup.
I also considered taking it a step further by trying to locate a dead head hu, hence(8053)or possibly a denon...
I will upgrade comps to either a diamond, boston or seas component as i am going by what i have listened to...
Is it possible to switch on & off the internal amp on the alpine unit(9887) as can be done on the 880prs...?
Word has it that the potential of the alpine(9887)unit is not realized until the imprint unit is used for calibration..
Does the (9887) unit eliminate the need for the c701 controller for the alpine digital processor...?
sorry for rambling on this much, but i am so uncertain about my next move..
still need the controller with the 9887.. but you do not need the imprint.. you can setup your graphic eq and do your own time alignment but the tuning kit makes it a lot easier
currently that is what i am running and it was night and day difference
not sure if they are out yet but check out the eclipse cd7200mkII .. it is a deadhead
im just happy with my alpine.. you can get them on the net for $250ish new.. i had a shop do the tuning kit for $50
...what is your budget btw? replace that head and see how you like the setup.. like i said you may need to go no further pending your taste
