ok well i sent my rl-s back because it had been making that really bad noise and so they finally got it yesterday and checked it today and this is what they sent back "Hey Charles,
Your driver definitely had a misaligned coil that was rubbing against the interior motor structure. This will be covered under warranty and I should have a new one out to you by the weekend. Please confirm where you would like it to be sent.
Out of curiousity, what type of power + enclosure are you using?
Take care, ~Mike"
so yea i guess thats what was wrong with it... god i love warranties
can't go wrong with there boxes. you want to try ported?
you should email mike first and ask him whats the best spec box for that sub. he will tell you its best sealed but if it must be ported, then it needs to be low.
charles i have put that sub in a 2.2 cuft ported to 30hz and it sounded tight and got pretty loud. i know that box spec is a bit small for that sub but it sounded better to me than when it was in a bigger box.
i knew something was up with that sub.. for the money sell it as bnib and get yourself two 12s.. i was not too impressed with how loud it got.. low end was great tho
However, they could have also told you that the subwoofer was clipped and the coil was damaged as a result but it seems that they're honest over there so that's a great thing. The hassle still sucks when you're going through it.
