Silver Member Username: Gh0st_31USF, FL USA Post Number: 752 Registered: May-06 | I believe were talking about the Stimulus Plan. Payments will start to be distributed in May and you have to have your taxes filed to get it. Single Independents get $300 (Or less), Married Couples get $600 (or less) plus $300 per child (or less). The amount that you get is based on your income. |

Silver Member Username: Gh0st_31USF, FL USA Post Number: 753 Registered: May-06 | I was incorrect with my earlier numbers. Here is from the IRS website. "Economic Stimulus Payments Information Center Updated March 10, 2008 Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment." |

Cracks me up, Uncle Sam is giving us money that he doesn't have in the first place which in turn puts uncle sam deeper in debt to which we in turn will have to pay higher taxes just to foot the this check were getting. Talk about fuzzy fr!ggin economic math. |

Gold Member Username: Skibum12189Cleveland Post Number: 2765 Registered: Mar-06 | im gettin it in like october bc apparently it depends on the last 4 digits of your ss# and mine are higher. it ranges between 300-600 if that hasn't been covered and yes, you had to have filed your taxes. i'm interested to see if it'll work. the idea is that people who get it need to spend it, not save it or pay off loans. but i have a feeling considering the economy right now, people will scrimp and use it to pay off debt/bills, etc. but then again who knows, most of the money we spend ends up going across the pacific , but we'll see... either way, im 18, make like 6k a year (high school) so 300-600 bucks is a HUGE bonus for me, not to mention my refund check. |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 7177 Registered: Jul-06 | " if YOU filed killer, your parents CAN'T claim you. " Wrong...... question 5 on the 1040EZ form asks you if anyone else has claimed you as a dependent. |

Gold Member Username: TejcurrentPost Number: 1243 Registered: Apr-07 | GODDAMN you people really don't like to search things! Sorry for being rude, but it scares me that many of you are old enough to vote and don't want to find out how the hell you're getting money (or your parents since most of your parents claim you). SO MANY OF YOU are sitting here debating how this thing is going to work, but when it comes to car audio you post links and research. Here's a helpful link to end all debating, its accurate from everything I read: http://www.bargaineering.com/articles/2008-tax-rebate-stimulus-package-explained .html Most of you wont get a rebate because your parents claim you. Like I said- I'm not trying to be rude or put anyone down at all, just... this topic is about uncle sam 'giving' you money, at least try to understand where it's coming from. To me it's a stupid idea, these big brains can't figure out people wont spend it like they plan, and it's going to devalue the dollar even more I really like this readers response: Phil responds: Posted: January 25th, 2008 at 10:08 am Two things: 1. The only reason why Washington is even talking about this is because (a) they want to be seen as "doing" something about the "problem" of a stock market that _had been_ in free fall and (b) the politicians -- on both sides of the aisle -- honestly think that Washington must necessarily always do something about anything that flashes across the 24/7 news networks. 2. The "stimulus" package will help individuals in the short term, but that's it -- and that assumes that nearly all individuals will immediately turn around and spend the rebate (hence, getting themselves back into potentially indebted situations that make some individuals salivate over getting _their own money_ back from the government to begin with!). In the long term, the US must absolutely consider some dramatic changes in the way that we tax and regulate all aspects of our economy. After all, nobody got a job from a poor person, and it is _always_ the "evil rich" who provide the capital (capitalism) to create businesses that create jobs but who simultaneously get brow-beaten by various politicians for doing exactly that. |
