b75 boot or PUFF boot or PUFF_LZMA boot

b75 boot was the earlier and well established boot and conversion BINs under b75 boot have been used for over a year now. It is reaching its limits and may be eventually discarded. Having said that, it is still OK with version 258

PUFF boot is a recent (February, 2008) variation of b75 boot. The only difference from b75 is that the background has been brought down into the BOOT part freeing about 64K additional space for BINs

PUFF_LZMA boot is a recent (March, 2008) variation of PUFF boot. The only difference from PUFF is that the compression used (LZMA) frees up more space, giving an further 50 K over the PUFF boot or a whooping 100K over the b75 boot.
However the authors consider it still experimental. As of now it is not recommended for use by anybody who does not have jtag experience.

The good part is that all Boots can be re-written using 2700 to 2500 directory in the full KIT. So you can interchange between different BOOTs to prepare for BINs of the same type. Within each BOOT, you can overwrite BINs. Thus all different B75 BINs can overwrite each other provided you have the b75 BOOT. Similarly, all different PUFF BINs can over write each other provided you have the PUFF and all different PUFF_LZMA (or LZMA_PUFF) BINs can over write each other provided you have the PUFF_LZMA (or LZMA_PUFF) BOOT

You must select whether you want to have the old b75 files or the new PUFF files or the newest PUFF_LZMA files.
If you have b75 boot, you must convert to PUFF boot to use PUFF BINs or to PUFF_LZMA boot to use PUFF_LZMA BINs.

"Subdirectory - PUFF_LZMA_258_Serial_Bins\ALL BOOT BINS FILE PUFF to LZMA
D1. With the receiver ON and showing ON or channel number,
D2. Start the Puff_BG_BOOT Loader Converter.exe
D3. Click on Boot only.
D4. Load one of the BOOT BINs (64K files) of different Backgrounds of your choice.
D5. After Load is completed, if will show PUFF_PUFF Night Rider.

E. Loading latest PUFF-LZMA BIN. This is the part to be repeated in future with newer PUFF_LZMA BINs. You will always use PUFF_LZMA BINs clearly labeled PUFF_LZMA OR LZMA_PUFF or just LZMA.
Subdirectory - PUFF_LZMA_258_Serial_Bins
E1. In the BL update 1.4, select the latest 258 PUFF_LZMA BIN and select BIN in the loader. Keep right hand on mouse ready to write. The selected BIN must be LZMA compression.
E2. Turn on receiver at the back using left hand and as soon as you see P (of PUFF) scrolling,
click on Write with right hand.
E3 Again wait for BURN to take place and then the receiver will reboot, go through the P-U-F-F
cycle twice and stop on (F) for one minute or so.
E4. Wait till it boots up to ON position. and shows channel number."

Hi guys,

Two questions:

1) I have already converted to PUFF. Do I need to follow the above steps to convert to LZMA PUFF?

2) In step D5, it says, "After Load is completed, if will show PUFF_PUFF Night Rider". Do I turn the receiver off or leave it on at this stage or it turns off automatically? Can someone please clarify what happens with the receiver before you load latest LZMA PUFF bin using BL 1.4 loader.

Thanks in advance

If you have PUFF, and want to use PUFF_LZMA BINs, you have to convert first to LZMA compression.
To Load the PUFF_LZMA BIN, use BL updater 1.4 and use your standard method of BIN load, i.e. you get ready with the selected BIN and set the COM post, speed., etc, and then with one hand on mouse ready to write and the other hand on the back of receiver at the switch, you switch receiver on, and as soon as You see some horizontal scroll of letters, you click on write.
main thing is to wait for BURN to complete which goes on to receiver reset, and eventually to "ON" and possibly number of a channel.
That is when, ideally you just come out of BP Updater 1.4 and go into channel master and load your channel list.
The name of the game is to wait adequate length of time and not to hurry.
With the 258, Chancy seems to have endorsed LZMA compression properly and has 6 background alternatives too. He still has the B75 version out too.

You need to post and ask for the full emu bin at Futurefta.

Echo 7 (119) has hardly any PPV channels.
Most of the PPVs are on Echo 8 at 110W.

Hi Nalin,

Thanks for your response. I guess I'll need
PUFF_LZMA_258_Serial_Bins\ALL BOOT BINS. But my question as stated in earlier e-mail is:
1) which boot bin is best?
2) In step D5, it says, "After Load is completed, if will show PUFF_PUFF Night Rider". Do I turn the receiver off or leave it on at this stage or it turns off automatically? Can someone please clarify what to do with the receiver before you load latest LZMA PUFF bin using BL 1.4 loader. Thanks.

You have to turn it off to load the latest BIN at this point. Allow more than a reasonable time, keep your fingers crossed. Here are the exact instructions from Chacysand.

"3. LOAD ONE OF THE OF BOOT BINS FILE _Boot_BG_LZMA'S OF YOUR CHOSE 6 OF THEM ATER LOADING IT WILL SHOW PUFF_PUFF KNIGHT RIDER

4.THEN LOAD CS_258T_LZMA (PUFF.) IN 2500 TO 2700 LOADER OR WHAT LOAD YOU USE

5.WITH BOX ON AND FLASHING PUFF HIT WRITE AND AFTER IT LOADS IT WILL FLASH PUFF 2 TIMES AND STOP ON (F) FOR 1 SO MINUTES AND LET IT BOOT UP ALL THE WAY THEN SAY (ON) OR CHANNELS"

I have truned the box off before loading the current LZMA BIN. However, reading Chancy's instructions again it seems you are supposed to load the latest BIN after it is showing P-U-F-F continuously.
How do you read it?

Hi Nalin,
But I remember when converting to PUFF only, receiver flashed PUFF and then returned to ON mode. Then you turned it off before loading bin file using BL 1.4. But it's not clear with conversion to LZMA-PUFF.. From your experience, does PUFF_PUFF knight rider ever stops? And out of 6 boot bins, which is the best? Thanks
