Gold Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois United States Post Number: 1271 Registered: May-07 | I'm looking for an amp for my ED SPv2, the RMS is 1200w, but it can handle much more. I'm looking for an amp that does around 1200-1400w @ 1 ohm, preferably between $200-$300. Here's what I've found so far: Orion 2400D Directed D2400 Viper D2400 Audioque 1200D Diamond D5/D6 1200.1 Hifonics BXi1606 Kicker kx1200.1 Kicker sx1250.1 (if I can find one this cheap) I know the diamond and kickers are under rated, and the HiFo is over rated, but anyone know anything about the orion/directed/viper amps? Any opinions on any of these would be great. Also efficiency is a big factor, since I have stock electrical (105 amp alt). |

I can pick up a directed refurb for $170 shipped. I would be too scared of putting a saz on my electrical, I know I could always turn it down, but I don't wanna take the risk. |

Gold Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois United States Post Number: 1273 Registered: May-07 | I saw a sx1250.1 on ca.com for 285, but it's sold anyways. Anyone know if the orion/directed/viper are under or over rated? Whats the difference between them, since they're all DEI. |

Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 8622 Registered: Jun-04 | get ready for dimming lights with that amp or any amp of that power |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 8623 Registered: Jun-04 | I had a 1500 rms amp on my 105 amp alt and had dimming big time at idle when it was cranked and I even had a optima red top battery |
Gold Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois United States Post Number: 1275 Registered: May-07 | Do the Directed (DEI?) amps do rated power? How's their build quality? As far as electrical goes, I'm not upgrading electrical in the current car I have as I'm looking to sell it and I just don't have moneya Maybe big 3 depending on how it works after everythings installed. I have a few spare batteries laying, was thinking about throwing an extra in the trunk, only to help for when I pull up to a stop sign and idle for a very short period. I can always take it out if it causes any problems what so ever. |

Gold Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois United States Post Number: 1276 Registered: May-07 | How stable was it when driving? Can I ask what amp it was? |
Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 8624 Registered: Jun-04 | it was the mtx 81000d...while driving it was better but with all three amps on (two smaller amps for highs) it dimmed pretty good when cranked at 4000 rpm with the headlights on |

Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 8625 Registered: Jun-04 | actually the audioque does require 30 less amp of fuse than my mtx 81000d did it had 150 amp fuse requiered...i just remember the fuse rating wrong on the audioque because I remembered it did near 1500 watts but true rating turns out to be 1200...so you should be much better than I was with the 105 amp alternator http://www.audioque.com/aq/AQamps.htm |

Gold Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois United States Post Number: 1277 Registered: May-07 | Whats a used Diamond D5 1200.1 worth? |
Gold Member Username: Nyyfan1315 MAG USA Post Number: 8993 Registered: Jul-06 | I agree, scrap the Hifonics. |
Gold Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois United States Post Number: 1279 Registered: May-07 | I wasn't planning on the hifonics anyways, only if I came upon a deal that was just plain crazy. |
Silver Member Username: O0airjordan120oPost Number: 359 Registered: Sep-07 | im lookin for an amp to do around 1200 as well.... was going to go with the AQ1200 but its rated at 14 V and want 1200 true watts... so any other amps aroudn there? |
Silver Member Username: Snowball123West Allis, WI United States Post Number: 517 Registered: Oct-07 | that is 1200 true watts. most electrical systems run at 14.1-14.4 volts. |
Silver Member Username: O0airjordan120oPost Number: 360 Registered: Sep-07 | i thought only trucks ran 14V... cars and most other vehicles run 12V |
Gold Member Username: camBC Canada Post Number: 2258 Registered: Nov-06 | Most regular consumer vehicles run 12V electrical systems but end up seeing around 13.7 - 14.5. At least that's been my experience. |
