Twice a year you may have outages due to the sun's position vis-a-vis your location and the sat you are scanning. Last couple of days to the next day or two, you can expect this around 1300 Eastern.

For exact calculation, you may use the following URL, but it is incomplete.
I hope somebody else has better information available. Zulu??

old info that I already posted here last October...

Its getting close to that time of year again and we should all be aware that its sun fade time again, toward the end of February and early March the sun will be behind some of the satellites we watch, this will cause the satellite signal to drop out for up to 10 to 15 minuets at a time, here is a link to find out when to watch out for this. (or when to read a book)

http://www.spacecom.com/customer_tools/html/body_sunoutage_calc.htm

Enter the satellites location (82, 91, 110 ect) and your longitude and latitude (Google maps) select [Ku] select [spring] or [fall] and enter your time zone.

Here is some of them i got
the sunfade forecast for Thursday, Feb 28th in NYC:

61.5W from 11:02AM to 11:22AM
82W from 12:34PM to 12:54PM
91W from 1:15PM to 1:35PM
110W from 2:39PM to 2:59PM
119W from 3:19PM to 3:38PM
129W from 4:02PM to 4:20PM

These are approximate times and apply for users with 33" or less size dish.

It's Solar Conjunction Time!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's Solar Conjunction Time!!! In the fall and in the spring the sun appears to travel behind the satellites blinding our dishes for up to 15 minutes. For the next few weeks, your channels may go out during the day.

Twice a year, typically in March and October, the sun, satellite, and your dish will be in perfect alignment. On those days, the sun's energy will overload the LNB and cause signal loss for a few minutes.

The little bit of reading I have done on this indicates that rain is responsible for more sat-outage than the sun in most geographic locations. Sun-fade usually only lasts 15 minutes and dosen't occur as regularly as rain outage. This link has an idicator for your location. http://www.satcomresources.com/tools.do

I have been doing some reading and it seems to me that ECM's actually cause more outages than rain and sun. I talked to my psychic today and she said to expect many more to come.

You don't need a psychic.

If the old witch from Key Largo is around there are outages.
She is a major cause of outages.
