Equalizer

I want something to reduce the bass that goes to the normal speakers in my car but does not reduce the output/limit the range of my subwoofers. I think that means that I want to buy an Equalizer. Can anyone confirm that?

Also is this a decent equalizer for what I want to get done? Keep in mind I dont want to limit my subs at all. If there is a better eq in that price range for what I want let me know.

Can anyone tell me how to install an eq or send me a website that will tell me?

Thanks a lot,
Kevin

Im not really sure if i can turn the bass down to just the speakers without turning down the subs. I have the JVC KD-AR880 h.u.

yeah everyhead unit i have owned you can not just turn the bass down in just the high speakers but buy a h.u. with a seperate sub out put turn down the eq lows all the way then turn the sub level volume all the way up thats how i did it then adjust amp accordingly

if your headunit has subwoofer controls you use that to balance the subwoofer output ...the regular bass settings on the headunit are what boosts the bass frequencies to your highs so keep that setting down...if that doesnt work you could buy bass blockers for your highs to make it a simple fix

Im not really sure. Ive been away from it for too long(away at scool without my car). But even if it does wont that still reduce the amount of bass going to the subs?

It should just high-pass the stereo pre-outs.

No HPF on the HU...... I know b/c I have one. Of couse I never drive any speakres with a HU so it doesn't matter.

Bass blockers would be what you need. They're cheap.

If those are stock speakers you may consider putting in good ones......... the difference will shock you.

really? The stock speakers in an alero are pretty good and the fact that they have tweeters that are up by side mirrors is also really nice. They sound great except they get a bit distorted once the music is way up unless i reduce the bass a bit. I would like to leave the tweeters running and Im not really comfortable with taking apart my car. I could get some new 6x9s in the back but im pretty satisfied with the speakers in general. I think they would be even better and go even louder if i reduced the distorion by removing the low bass to them. I used to have a civic that I put all new speakers in, but the stock ones were complete garbage.

But just for giggles... What kind of speakers would you consider to be good ones?

I got a alero (4x6's and 6x9's)

Well if you're satisfied with them thats all that matters....... I just haven't heard many stock systems that sounded good. The ones that Lexus has is really the only one........... the monsoon in audi/VW and Bose in GM are ok, nothing great.
