you need a RS232 to USB adapter like this one

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10311&cs_id=1031104 &p_id=2276&seq=1&format=4#feedback

Then get the drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

is you new laptop XP or Vista ?

OK I too have a question about the cable I just got a laptop as well and I don't have a serial port on it but I have a Viewsat and a Pansat so I have a straight cable and a nul modem cable (I think that is the right names for them). If I get a USB cable will it work for both recivers or should I just try and get a USB serial adapter and continue to use the 2 cables I already have?

just the adaptor, he cables u have will plug in to it. Also, when u use the usb/serial adaptor, it usually will be com 4 on ur loader program. So, on ur loader, change the com port setting in ur loader program to com 4.
