Silver Member Username: Steph_ravenCartier is my boy toy!..., U wanna play... Canada Post Number: 336 Registered: May-06 | i hope this is not true. this info can be found at a few other sites...so brace for impact....i'm also suprised nobody reported it yet... C/p Well, if timing one map call was not bad enough, the latest D*sh MECM requires emulators to time map calls 0x02, 0x07, 0x3B, 0x1C, 0x29 and 0x0B. Map 0x3B is the tough one - similar to Map 0x57 timing in early January which wreaked havoc on the FTA community. The others are just there to complicate matters. Brute force fixes are impossible because they loop through four times instead of just once as they did with the Map 0x57. Coders are already musing that this is the hardest hurdle they have faced thus far. It seems for the moment coders have their backs to the wall. Expect B*v to implement this new code within 24hrs. Expect major down time across N. America on all emulator platforms. i hope this is not true and that it only seam worst then what it actually is...but if it's not well take out your rabbit ears and dvd players. ps: don't shoot the messenger |

Bronze Member Username: Westway11Post Number: 73 Registered: Aug-07 | There is absolutely no difference (in terms of legality) between using Nfusion and standard update it yourself FTA. First of all every state and province has different anti-piracy laws, in Canada a recent announcement by the RCMP stated that police agencies will no longer put resources towards fighting petty piracy like satellite signal theft, and illegal downloading. [SOURCE CITED: http://www.rlslog.net/rcmp-tolerates-piracy-for-personal-use/] Even if D|SH Network and B3V wanted to prosecute there are just too many levels to go through. First they would have to get a warrant on Nfusion's servers showing what I.P address has updated their boxes, then the ISP's would have to step forward and give up customer information, then after all that they would STILL have to prove that you used the files for illegal purposes. Same thing goes with downloading bin files from sites like these. As far as I'm concerned there is no difference between the two. |

Post Number: 424 Registered: Jun-07 | I was joking I got something here that may have already been posted, cant read every thread...I have a life also... Ok People...here's the deal.. Unfortunately, much of what you read is true. This 3b timer was the kick in the nuts that the providers were hiding till the last minute. This even has plastic testers worried as their blockers passed these unexpected maps and now their cards are an easy kill should the providers choose to do so. To the poster who asked why the old chuck boxes can handle this and not FTA is because you have to remember that the providers are using cards, and those cards have the map co-processor built onto them, so the box is only passing instructions and the card itself is doing the rest. Due to the fact that there is an unknown timer or map function, that kinda discredits the "full emulation running on a pc" theory imo. We shall see... I will be on this trying to gather information for you.. Stay Tuned to FTAPeople for the latest as it comes down the pipe... Every time you respond to an ignorant post, you just give the loser who posted it what he wants.... His jollies. For every conflict they start, gives them an opportunity to jerk off when someone gets pissed off and responds. Go ahead jerk offs, flame me. I don't care and will not respond. Thank you Coders for all your hard work. I will wait patiently and enjoy the gifts you deliver. KUDO'S |
Silver Member Username: Oleg1474Florida Usa Post Number: 929 Registered: Aug-06 | State of the art." Hmmm, can't avoid a rant here. Two things. 1. Microsoft has no exclusives not handed to them by someone else. Linux-based computers (one of which I have) are effective Windows competition unless you must use software manufactured by some software company who simply doesn't care to support anything but Windows. That includes most software companies in raw numbers. (Unfortunately, I have to use Windows computers because of this.) Microsoft dominance is because, at the beginning, corporate tech people in non-technology corporations were afraid to think outside the IBM box. And because within those corporations "accounting", for instance, had to have Excel because their CPA buddies were showing it off. It required taking a huge job risk to fight the trend. You had to be there in the mid-1980's wringing your hands over the ignorance. The Microsoft-IBM lesson from that time is that better hardware and operating systems don't win because most end-users (customers) don't understand or care to understand techological marvels- they just want to see something on their screens they can appear to control. 2. Every cable and satellite company has a shot at exclusives if they are willing to pay enough for it. My guess is that those who got exclusives thought "hmmm generating a bunch of new potentially long-term customers through providing them the content they want vs. producing better technology. Exclusives sounds like the better long term plan. Build a better box and they will come? It didn't work that way in the computer business of the 1980's, maybe because techies are too small a portion of the market to support a low-margin, rapidly-changing business. My 722 is the most fantastic receiver-dvr computer ever designed for the mass market. So what? It can't get me SciFi HD or others Speed HD today while Direct and cable customers are enjoying them. So today it has no mass market. And, that box without a huge customer base won't pay for one cup of coffee for the Echostar tech staff. (Just consider the well-known-but-yet-to-turn-a-profit-tech-company TiVo which is salvating over a piece of E*'s relatively small share of the mass market revenues stream.) Careful contingency plans when you are in a hardware iffy-business like rocket-launched satellites also is worth a whole lot more than that box. And long term planning is the only choice, which (a) includes signficant focus on expanding your customer base through better service as defined by the customer and (b) ignores the next two quarters profit numbers for the long term gain is, no matter what the business channel financial gurus might say for six months. I'm hoping that the recent reorganization that included Erik Carlson being promoted to EVP, Operations, reporting to directly to Charlie and overseeing DISH Network's home and commercial installations, customer service centers, internal customer billing, and equipment retrieval and refurbishment operations, is somehow going to refocus corporate decision-making on the least tech-savvy, and only potentially large, customer base - the folks who take technology for granted and want their CW channel in HD, whether or not through a state of the art box. Don't get me wrong. I have a bunch of "state of the art" crap - like a new hugely impractical HPPavilion HDX 20" notebook computer with HDMI-out so that ultimately I can stream HD content through the internet to my home theater in my continuing effort to bring "state of the art" into my home. But my wife, kids, and grandkids just want to watch Stargate Atlantis in HD now. And they represent the customer base, not me the techie who has this long-term emotional tie to Echostar. Thanks for Oleg Ph.D. |
