We now have a Pansat 2700A. Since it is the first one we've owned, we've been pleased with it. However, with everything changing to HD by the first of next year, we have to upgrade our tv to HD and I've heard that our Pansat is on its way out (not enough memory), I am looking for suggestions as to what receiver to buy next. I heard nFusion is good, but, we still have dial-up and I heard that needs to be connected constantly so it doesn't go down. Please, only knowledgable suggestions. Thanks!
julie.. nfusion is good but it needs to be connected to internet all the time to make it work... on the other hand nfusion doesn't provide hd stations.. if you are looking for hd compatible rec you need to get sonicview 8000 hd... or viewsat 9000 hd.. i have nfusion and its up almost 95% of time during the month (bought it 2 months ago ) and it was down for 2 hrs.. i wouldn't recommed to buy hd rec for now b.c for dish network you need. extra module (adapter ) to watch dish hd stations.. with bev you don't need extra module (for now )..but thing can change....
What I still don't quite understand is that in order to receive the HD signal that I understand will be the only signal after Jan. 2009, do I need an hd receiver, or would just having a hd tv do it? Also, when DN is down, we switch to the antennae. Even with an hd tv can we get the tv stations or will we need a receiver to get ANY broadcast?
julie... yes in order to watch hd tv stations that dn offers you need to get hd tv and hd reciever.. for normal stations you don't need hd rec.. yes when dn is down you can switch to anteena.. like i have cable too and for some reason if dn is down i can just change it from remote and watch cable too when ever i want . same thing goes with anteena... bell or we say it bev (nick name for bev)..also offers lots of hd stations.. for hd recievers buy sonic view or viewsat hd rec both are good...
julie, HD is not the only signal that will be available. infact NTSC standards have said that there will no longer be analog tv but digital tv.you could get a newer type of receiver, don't really need HD.The change from analog to digital is for USA
We are out in the sticks, so our reception is lousy anyway, that's why when a friend told us about FTAs we jumped on it. Our friend has taken care of us since we got the Pansat and all I know is the Dish Network. But recently it has become a hassle to bother him when the sat goes down. With everyone discussing FTAs, I thought I could do it myself. And I found I could for the most part. This is still new to me and I may not understand all the technical details, but I get the gist of things. Unfortunately, until I learn more about the different networks, I will probably have to stick to DN and just up grade the receiver and tv. I really do appreciate all your all's help with this.
