Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 511 Registered: Sep-06 | A slot port vs sqaure port is the same thing, the only difference is the slot is Square ( all sides being equal ) vs slot rectangle ( unequal ) plus it has nothing to do with whether the walls of the enclosure are or are not used. I've built enclosure's with " slot ports " that used square, rectangular,tri angular and trapizoidal that did or didn't use any walls of the enclosure's, what are/were they called??? A port is defined merely by how it appears as to it's shape just like a Horn, Folded Horn or Transmission Line, Flared and so forth, different types of ported cabinets given their description of design. |

Think of it this way: People don't call a round port a " circular port " anymore than they would call a slot port a " rectangular port ". it's just easier to say " round, square or slot ". And just because the walls of the enclosure are used to create a port doesn't make it any different as what it's still called. |

However, that calculator does not account for port wall displacement and without that your port length will be incorrectly calculated. But, in the grant scheme of things it won't be thrown off by any great degree that you will/would notice the difference. |

Gold Member Username: InsearchofbassPost Number: 7788 Registered: Jun-04 | "However, that calculator does not account for port wall displacement" thats easy to figure out if you mean end correction....for every turn you would subtract half the ports width from the total length... say the port calculator said a 20 inch long port and your ports width is 4 and you had one turn you would make the port 18 inches long (just for examples sake)...its not an exact calculation but works very well for me |

Silver Member Username: Phil_salisburyPost Number: 515 Registered: Sep-06 | I'm not talking about " end correction factor " and quite frankly, " ECF " is a completely waste in my opinion given the little notice in change to the port for the bass response peak & dB cutout, especially for " daily " listening. If he's " competing " with this setup then I would say, yeah, slight variation changes in port length to tweak the tuning vs spl output make all the difference. Also, you don't subtract from port length when you make a turn, port length is port length along the centerline of the port and that never changes till the end of the port inside, then you do the " ECF " mickey mouse nonsense. |

Platinum Member Username: BestmankindWEST COAST RD AUDIO Post Number: 17796 Registered: Oct-05 | just as long as you are in the vicinity of your tuning, you are good. besides your ears are the best tools when going for daily driver. that is why i told you patrick to go with a port you can adjust. trying various tuning to see the best results is the best. also the car's accoustics affects the where your sub peaks out so even though a company might recomend certain tuning, it might not be ideal for your car. |
